  1. The Vintage Deluxe slightly spoils the the cool goth style going their
  2. For low gain for bass I actually think the Barber Half-Gainer is the ultimate pedal if slightly overkill It's based on the Barber LTD which is a dedicated low gain unit with very transparent but sweet drive Not only does it add a channel so you have two drive settings but a very versatile Bandaxall style Tone control (Neutral at 12:00, treble cut and bass boost to the left and Bass Cut treble boost to the right)a dedicate Mid's/Character Control that gives either mid cut or boost with changes to freq point and curve and internal trim pots one for presence and Bass. Only fault I had with it was it was slightly big pedal (although hardly much bigger than fulldrive just orientated differently) Actually think this was one of the most underrated overdrive pedals of all time and that Barber is a lost hero of the boutique world. It's a shame it's now discontinued. As someone extremely sensitive to low end or sub loss from overdrive pedals this pedal was perfect as I could dial it in to be essentially a completely transparent drive which simple added gain to the bass signal presented (which ironically takes a fair amount of eq adjustment) or a very wide range of overdrive sounds from scooped to mid-boosted. For low gain it was simply the best option in my mind.
  3. I think the main thing that grated on me with the Boss approach was the uniform parameters given across amps/distortion blocks that make it feel a little limited compared to other systems like you have a SVT with no deep control, no selectable mid's etc and there's no indication what sort of tone stack they are modelling, but the EQ blocks do allow most of that to be overcome. To my ears the Concert model does what I want mainly which is give some tube like feel and high end roll off to make fuzz and drive sing and little colour/flavour to the sound that more flat DI's or Modern Hi-Fi Bass Amps lack. I even tried 3rd party IR's recommended in a number of places but felt it was better with the original speaker sim, I don't know if that's cos of the output select matching it better with my cab or cos I tweaked the mic options and placement to my taste.
  4. Now the core has replaced a number of pedals my boards looking a little lite. Probably gonna take the Ricochet off the core has pitch bend and once I get the midi adaptor from Source Audio will get the C4 on there too and need a dual foot switch for the core too
  5. Crossover dividers on most modeller pedals seem to make interesting design choices like why not give a full frequencies range although at least the boss one goes down to 100hz I think the line 6 one only went down at 250. Again a control of the slopes on the crossover and HP/LPF on the end would be great. This is where the 4 EQ blocks on the boss do really come into their own. I found the crossover on the divider has a steeper slope than the equivalent LPF and so ended up using them other, I have some pretty drastic eq going on lows, boosting 40hz by 20db with mid q, High passing at 80hz and cutting 20db on high q at 120 and low passing at 100hz then running into the compressor. I find that gives a good solid low end that I then combine with other side high passed at 100hz going into the drive sections, out to one of the effects loopers and then into the preamp, another EQ blocks and then hitting the IR section before it hits the mix block. I have another divide that splits off before all of that high passed at 2khz and a bit of EQ boosting 10khz for a just a little clean signal blend they then mixes back before I then have any full range effects. so far I'm pretty pleased with how it's all sounding. The amp modelling might not be the best out there but it far supersedes the Behringer BDI I was using before, I haven't given it a listen through a big PA yet but I'm confident it'll be a solid pleasing sound for live.
  6. Been messing with my Core now since Christmas and I really need to remember to get some decent single malt in for Santa to say thanks. It defo took a while to really get my head around it's interface, approach and the very 80's rack style of parameter editing (which I'm slowly growing to love) but it's such a powerful device I'm basically able to replicate a studio like signal flow with multi-band processing and effects processing that gives me a level of control that really sits well with my OCD like approach to sound sculpture. The tweaker in me has a few niggles that I'd love to change in it (like I'd loose the four basic delay blocks for either an extra fx or divider in a nano second, high pass on the master delay and the ability to use the phones out as a stereo single jack and a mono sub out from the left output) but for the money there's some really special and exceptional functionality in here. Also I spent a lil while with a freq analyser and the div crossovers, EQ blocks and Global EQ as I was interested in seeing what order the High and Low Pass filtering it has, interestingly they're all different (again I'd kill for some control of the slopes there) I can't work out why the output selection is not raved about more it's such a good idea and seems to work so well. Also by splitting L&R output blocks and messing with the signal flow I plan to use the right out to go to my amp set to the bass amp with tweeter setting and the left output to DI full range and have independent global EQ for each side.
  7. Have you thought about simply moving the amp block to the end of the chain so no it's not in the signal flow. In theory I think this should work.
  8. It's a ridiculous fuzz and discontinued but the old fender sub-lime bass fuzz does exactly this (unlike a number of the pedals suggested that don't have a crossover let alone control over the cutt off) and I always found it pretty tame gainwise for a fuzz pedal and more like a fizzy overdrive
  9. I have emailed Peavey Customer Service asking for a spec sheet for the Triflex as well as details for their UK distributor so we'll see if they come through, I've no patience thou and really would like to hear how the cab sounds with tweeter so if there was one I could just get ordered I'd be keen to. I'd actually stumbled across your post before Bill while googling to try and find out about the APT-80, would fitting a BGH25-8 be an option in the 410TX (it's meant to be 700 watts program) and would that mean replacing the crossover with as per your design on that thread? I'd read another thread where someone had modded the cab by removing the wires to the inductor and soldering together, is this safe and what is it doing to the circuit? Is it safe to install a switch that would remove crossover/tweeter from the circuit to have the option of tweeter with Pad vs full range from the 410's, would a standard DPDT switch do mounted to the same plate as the Speaker Jack?
  10. Yea they were the only ones I could find and buy the time I pay postage and import tax on them it's not much less than a replace apt-80. All I could find about the triflex is Nominal Impedance: 8 Ohm and D.C.R.: 6.8 Ohms Output Sound Pressure Level: 107 dB Frequency Response: 1.5 kHz to 15 kHz Voice Diameter: 1"
  11. Picked up one of these heavy lil' fellows on the ebay 2nd hand very cheap, got it to practice space to find the tweeter is blown. Pulled out the one that is in there and it's a Eminence APT-80 from what I can tell (only identifiers on the unit are two stickers one that says "APT super tweeter" and another wit the number 0903). I'm struggling to find a replacement diaphragm I repair it with. From what I can see this isn't the stock tweeter (Peavey Triflex system) any thoughts on the APT-80 vs the Triflex or are there other upgrades I should consider at this point?
  12. It doesn't feel like anything since the Rh heads and Rs Cabs has been quiet so ground breaking, not to say they haven't had good products but nothing as innovative and exciting. Like toneprint is great but modeling digital effects were established already. They've added cool new things to it but again it's sort of all seems safe compared to the RH450 launch It certainly seems like their R&D for bass and or guitar effects has been asleep for the last 5 or more years. It's a shame cos I would love to have seen that same ingenuity poored into a amp-modeller/full-multifx.
  13. I really don't get why they discontinued that line and replaced with what seem a more entry level product, but maybe that's what is selling these days.
  14. Just wondering if anyone has considered using something like this as a power amp to drive a bass cab with floor moddelers or pre-amp pedals instead of a full bass head? Are there any draw backs that need to be considered or short falls in its design? https://doukaudio.com/collections/digital-amplifier/products/nobsound-g2-pro-hifi-subwoofer-full-frequency-mono-digital-power-amplifier-300w
  15. I'm confused how did you run two effects loops in this guy there only looks to be two input and two output jacks??
  16. Yea I've heard the criticism about the BDI's scooping mids but I really like the Ampeg-esque sound and slight tube feel it gives even with the drive low. I set it clean rather than overdriven and have tried to limit the mid scoop by setting the blend about 50% and setting the bass knob below 50% although I'm not sure how successful it is. It means i get a fairly consistent sound regardless of what backline I'm using at gigs although I did do without when the practice space we were using had a Fender Bass 300 which sounded soo good the BDI was totally unnecessary. I think long term I wanna build a Ampeg pre-amp style pedal which will give more mid control maybe. The problem is a like allot of treble in my tone too, i think my strings need changing cos at the mo I run the BDI with the treble maxed out which obviously doesn't help the string balance issue. I think overall I really like the SD I find the Clean Blend helps it to feel fairly natural while the compression gives more sustain and brings out some of the subtler quirks of my playing. I was playing with it at the end of my signal chain which I also found helped with balancing levels between clean and gain pedals (not totally limiting as I find that i want a little bit of a level boost when overdrive or fuzz are in play as the band tend to be louder in those sections and also they increase compression too but I found hitting that sweet spot of how much level boost easier to find with the compressor at the end I think). The only issues with this was perceived volume drop when the OC-2 is engaged, putting the SD at the start of my chain pretty has pretty much removed this issue which is what makes me thing it's about the perceived difference in volume when the OC-2 is so sub freq focused. Hence wondering if a mult-band compressor at the end of my chain might work better helping decrease the impact of volume boosts from gain pedals without totally removing them but not being as triggered by huge low end from the OC-2. I guess the other thing I was hoping to achieve with a compressor was being able create a treblely tone/texture with the EQ on the BDI across the strings but balancing the overall volume of those strings when played and I'm not sure if that will be done best at the start of the chain or the end. Really I think I need to sit down with a couple of decent compressors and play around with them in my chain to see if it can get where i'd like.
  17. Yea I'm kinda tempted by a setup like that although I have hangups about how many digital pedals I have in my chain
  18. After an age of never really getting with a compressor I've been really enjoying my Seymour Duncan Double Back Compressor especially as I'm switching between fingers, pick and slap in the set with my current band. I really like how the clean blend function in the Duncan allows some of the natural responsiveness and feel to stay in my sound but increases my sustain and also how it helps keep the volume level close when kicking in fuzz and dirt pedals. There are a few areas that I've been finding it lacking that have me looking at other options (namely at the moment the TC Spectracomp) I've always struggled with the classic OC-2 -1 octave only setting not sounding loud enough, I've even done the part mod clipping one of the legs of the dry pot for a increase which made a slight difference but I feel like with the compressor on after the oc-2 the volume drop is more pronounced, I'm assuming because the compressor see's the gain breeching the threshold when the oc-2 is on. The other issue is balancing the level across strings, I currently have the eq on my BDI21 pre amp set with the treble maxed and bass cut slightly to achieve the texted/tone that I'm after however I find this makes my D and G strings sound louder than the E and A especially when playing around the 10th fret and upwards. I was wondering if a multi-band compressor after he pre-amp, would perhaps address this level difference across the strings whilst leaving the overall tone/texture that I'm going from across the strings more in tact
  19. I think i'd want splitting highest 250Hz for a decent fuzz tone
  20. A good bass fuzz as with any good bass distortion or drive shouldn't need a clean blend. A properly designed bass pedal should retain your low frequencies in the sound it puts out and allow you manipulate the output with eq controls. Personally I think clean blends are a con I don't see that they actually let you retain low end in a meaningful way. I find them annoying especially on fuzz where the whole point is to have a highly clipped signal. If a clean blend also had a lpf/tone control on it then that would make so much more sense but most don't. Otherwise all your doing is mixing your signal and personally more often than not dirty and clean signals mixed without splitting the frequencies sound wack. My guess is because distortion is changing the frequency response of your sound so you're either gonna end up with a the distorted signal significantly louder in the mids or highs than the cleans or its gonna be quieter than the clean mids or highs.
  21. I've always found heavy duty velcro has more than enough stick, tbh honest getting pedals off the board is almost a pain, I used to carry round a old spatula to slide I between to break the bond it was so hard. For that reason I've always done rough on the board as I got sick my pedals sticking so hard to the carpet.
  22. Tasty I'm waiting for some parts from PiHut turn up so build a USB Midi Host and link up the Digitech seven I picked up to it. Part of me wishes I'd seen the midi controller build first although tbh I think all together this will be a cheaper simpler option. For now at least. Which reminds me need to hastle my housemate to download the desktop editor. I'm hoping once I've upgraded the firmware that'll get the mobile app working over usb.
  23. Ooo this has really piqued my interest. I've just picked up a Source Audio C4, in my search for the cheapest Midi controller options picked up a 2nd hand Digitech Seven and was looking for the cheapest USB host to connect them up My search eventually took me to DIY projects at which point started thinking how useful it would be to have a USB host with display screen that could be programmed with preset and scene info. For the moment I've picked up all the components to build a USB host of the Adafruit Trinket M0 https://github.com/gdsports/midiuartusbh#readme as cheapest solution but long term I might have to consider something with a screen, my old housemate has a Raspberry Pi lying around doing nothing so might see if I can recycle it. My coding knowledge extends about as far as basic network troubleshooting and installing reaper on Linux on a Chromebook so might be a bit of task.
  24. I haven't touched mine with a computer yet and I definitely think it is worth it. The mobile app is definitely a usable interface for editing sounds via input two. I think I read somewhere that connecting a phone via USB gives two way midi functionality over the mobile app now too so I'm excited for my usb-c OTG adaptor to arrive now.
  25. Yea i'm about ready to beg my housemate to install the neuro app on his PC but mostly for better visual on all parameters at once. I think it'll be essential once I have a midi pedal to essentially set up presets for multiple presets for use in different songs. Using the mobile neuro app other than that isn't really too hard once you work out how to edit the community uploaded presets, that took me a while to work that i needed to slide on presets to access that. The only thing I'm really disappointed in really is the polyphonic pitch sounds, the latency makes it kinda unusable for me but tbh the monophonic will probably do for most of the applications where the lag bugs me. Probably means I'm gonna try out a the OC-5 once there's actually stock about to see if it'll replace my oc-2. Next challenge is to decide on where to put it in my chain. I'm thinking after the oc-2 before fuzz and drives but also wondering about once I have a midi controller setting the C4's dual outputs as a effects loop and running them in the loop.
