No, but I like the look of the new US Helium basses. (just sayin')

Yes. And I'm going to derail the thread momentarily by posting a picture of a Forte4 SS Helium. So there! Thpp! :P

Phwoaar, eh? Eh? Anyway, back on topic - P Bass or StingRay..? Neither, but if forced to make a decision... P BASS!! :D

I am seriously thinking I need a P Bass 4 as they are so versatile...
Just about any gig can take a P and that is why they remain 'the'
choice, IMO.

They're versatile in the same way that a hammer is; you can do many a DIY task around the house with a hammer & they are probably my number one bike fixing tool, but at the end of the day you're just hitting things with a blunt object.

P's are great & do fit into almost any gigging situation but for me that's because the sound of a P fits into most genres. I'd still really like one.

And quickly as well. Very easy to get a workable sound with a P-Bass.

Things change... my bass-playing career is now neatly divided into Pre-Spector and Post-Spector.
And if I get to play a Spector for as long as I've played a Precision Bass, I'll be more than happy! And very old. ;)

Nice... though a fair bit is down to the tasteful, creative, accurate and understated drumming. :)
Recently saw him and not so knocked out with the drums tbh...
but on that track I posted, it is just the way the P sits... which
is why everyone uses them for that gig... ( and you'd probably not get
the gig without one  nothing does that as well
as a P... and I'm a jazz man..!!

Practically every note the bass plays is underscored with a kick hit... it does make a big difference to the perceived sound of the bass.

In some instances that combination and the way they compliment each other is that 'thing' people are looking for in their tone....

That`a awesome - really like the song, never heard JB I don`t think, and that P-Bass, well that is what a Precision is all about.

This is standard bass/drum syncopation ... no biggie.. it takes the P bass to sit there, IMO

Nice Warwick!! :D (just teasing you Mark...)

As for P-bass vs Stingray... isn't this one of those 'apples and oranges' discussions? I mean, you can get more juice out of an orange, but apples are much nicer baked with cinnamon.

I don't own a Stingray. Yet. But I do have a P-bass and yes it is very versatile in the sense that its tone fits with most styles of music. But I'd also argue that its tone is quite limited. Sure, you can switch things up by adjusting your playing style, using a pick/fingers, rounds/flats, etc. But it's all really just slight variations on a similar theme.

That's not to criticise the P-bass. Again, I own one and love it. I just think it has a relatively limited range of tones - but it just so happens that the tones it does have are very nice indeed :)

I imagine that the Stingray is a similar beast. But like I said, I've yet to find that out for myself.

I own P and currently still own a bongo (not for long) and use to own a stingray.

Like you said they are apple and orange. I prefer P because I'm lazy and just want to plug and go without adjusting anything.

Musicman bass have it own taste and it works well in most music as well in my opinion. The unique tone they got is very nice.

Even stingray, bongo and sterling sounds totally different in my ears.
