JTUK
I am seriously thinking I need a P Bass 4 as they are so versatile... Just about any gig can take a P and that is why they remain 'the' choice, IMO.
They're versatile in the same way that a hammer is; you can do many a DIY task around the house with a hammer & they are probably my number one bike fixing tool, but at the end of the day you're just hitting things with a blunt object. P's are great & do fit into almost any gigging situation but for me that's because the sound of a P fits into most genres. I'd still really like one. Skol303

Nice Warwick!! (just teasing you Mark...) As for P-bass vs Stingray... isn't this one of those 'apples and oranges' discussions? I mean, you can get more juice out of an orange, but apples are much nicer baked with cinnamon. I don't own a Stingray. Yet. But I do have a P-bass and yes it is very versatile in the sense that its tone fits with most styles of music. But I'd also argue that its tone is quite limited. Sure, you can switch things up by adjusting your playing style, using a pick/fingers, rounds/flats, etc. But it's all really just slight variations on a similar theme. That's not to criticise the P-bass. Again, I own one and love it. I just think it has a relatively limited range of tones - but it just so happens that the tones it does have are very nice indeed I imagine that the Stingray is a similar beast. But like I said, I've yet to find that out for myself. Edited December 10, 2014 by Skol303
badboy1984
I own P and currently still own a bongo (not for long) and use to own a stingray. Like you said they are apple and orange. I prefer P because I'm lazy and just want to plug and go without adjusting anything. Musicman bass have it own taste and it works well in most music as well in my opinion. The unique tone they got is very nice. Even stingray, bongo and sterling sounds totally different in my ears.
