So, those of you who have the Comfort Strapp, is it really the best thing since sliced bread? The incision from my op goes 3" front to back, right where the strap is going to be, and will be a bit tender for some time, so I really need this! Thanks in advance for your opinions! Thanks in advance for your opinions![/quote] I recommend the Comfort Strapp (I have a dodgy back/left shoulder) but make sure you get the extra long one as I mistakenly bought the medium one first off and my bass was up at Mark King level - fine if you are a slapper but not if you want to look punk/rock cool! geilerbass Posted May 22, 2008 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I use comfort straps (two at once in fact!) and have found them to be, as their name suggests, very comfortable. One thing to be aware of, particularly if it's your shoulder that is sensitive, is that, while the big stretchy foam pad is very kind to an achey back, depending on the size you get and the angle at which you hang your bass, you can end up with the foam bad on your back, but the non-elastic, un-padded part of the strap sitting right on your shoulder. In my case, I pretty much have the plastic buckle that connects the two parts of the strap sitting right on the top of my trapezius muscle. This has given me some problems, hence why I now use two straps, so as to balance the load across both shoulders. If you get the shortest strap (which is VERY short) or have your bass slung much lower, so that the padded part sits on your shoulder, then you shouldn't have any problems. I'd recommend seeing if you can try one out first, to make sure that it won't agitate your shoulder. Happy Jack Posted May 22, 2008 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I've tried a variety of neoprene straps, including genuine Comfort Strapps, plus the Bass Centre's own-brand copy of them, and some much cheaper ones called Klondyke. In terms of quality/finish, you get exactly what you pay for, i.e. the more the better, but in truth there's not a huge difference between them. The Klondyke does NOT have the nylon "limiter" material which reduces bounce in the strap, and several people who have borrowed my basses at jam sessions have commented on that. If you're an [i]energetic[/i] player then I wouldn't recommend any neoprene strap, because they do bounce a bit about a milli-second after you do. As to bad-backery, which is why I bought them in the first place, they're great - way better than any normal strap, whatever the width or the padding. That's chiefly because they act both as shock absorbers while you're playing or moving around and also as a very efficient weight distributor, so the weight of the bass is always spread across the whole of your shoulder. Finbar Posted May 22, 2008 Share Posted May 22, 2008 Been meaning to start a thread on similar lines, so I'll add my question in if TS doesn't mind! I've got one of those nice Levy's straps, the wide padded ones. Problem is, it rubs on my clothes - every tshirt and jumper I own has a big rough bobbly patch on my left shoulder from where this strap has had its wicked way over the course of time. Doesn't take long to happen either. It also seems to pick up much easily, and any white tops I own don't seem to stay white for long around the shoulder/collar when I'm using this strap. It is getting pretty annoying. Maybe the wear is happening because I'm active and move the bass around a lot? I bought a Comfort Strapp the other day, and while it IS comfortable, the bounce is really putting me off it. I move about too much for it, and I can't bend the neck of my bass for bending notes anymore, as the effort I'm putting into bending it is being absorbed by the strap - in a way, it is too efficent in that respect! So yeah, can anyone suggest a strap that has the comfort (or near comfort) of the Comfort Strapp (I play a heavy 7 string, so I need something good), but which won't eff up all my clothes? o_O Ta! It looks kind of weird, but definitely spreads the weight out. I was looking at getting a dare strap, but a lot of people advised that they weren't great quality so I tried experimenting with a couple of Comfort Straps. The other advantage for me is that the strap on the right shoulder pulls the neck up a bit, which, with the way my two Ibanez basses are balanced, means the bass sits in a more upright position, which suits my playing style. I'm still experiementing with how to attach the two straps together at the back, but it's been great not having my shoulder aching after rehearsals. I find that the most comfortable straps are the woven cotton ones like these ones below, but again they are too short. Common someone...a decent bass strap for those who like to hang low! The Slider did the trick so far as allowing me to play full sets but did feel a bit odd, and I added a couple of the boy racer seat belt pads for a little more comfort against the webbing rolling itself up. I am now back on proper straps and have a Comfort strap for the Wal, and a [url="http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/1023-planet_waves_pw_htsp_1_squid_shoulder_pad"]Planet Waves Squid Shoulder Pad[/url] on the other, which is fine, and less of an issue for going a bit skanky when you are a sweaty betty on stage. 6stringbassist Posted June 4, 2008 Share Posted June 4, 2008 I've used comfort straps for sometime, but I actually find the leather Fender ones better now, my 6 string is very heavy and the comfort strap seems to have too much give to it, it sinks into my shoulder, the Fender spreads the weight better.
