Was it followed? Again worth pursuing if it wasn't done properly. My Bro went to school with a bloke who was outed just like you from a band and done nothing about these points. stingrayPete1977 Posted September 1, 2012 Share Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) It wont take long for the new bass player (or a session player) to redo all the bass lines on the album though, whether that ruins the songs or makes them better is subjective. The songs would need a bass hook something like Fleetwood mac's The Chain, Queen's Under Pressure or AOBTD to get any kind of legal challenge, its hard to put your name to inventing the major/minor scales. Any notes/tabs/lead sheets/documented music or recordings that you can proof pre-date the release of the album (I.e. dated postage to yourself or copyright dating)? If not, they will definitely just screw you out of anything you're owed. Luckily for most record labels (unlucky for the musicians), it's the original bands that tend to get caught up in the romance of being in a band with their mates, writing songs they love and having fun who forget to protect their contribution to the band. Spike Vincent Posted September 1, 2012 Share Posted September 1, 2012 Being asked to leave a band for any reason sucks big time and is a major blow to one's ego.Happened to me once some decades ago,the singer said to me " we're splitting up for a while and doing our own thing".Ok.What he failed to tell me that was his own thing was to carry on with the rest of the band ( who,it turned out,wondered why I left..) with his new mate on bass.Shortly after that,the new band chucked HIM out...20 years later I'm in a reasonably succesful band with the guitarist from that band,and the previous singer has cleaned himself up from the nasty drugs he was taking that we didn't know about. It's not unknown for songs to be registered in someone's name without all the others who contributed to the process getting a credit. You can raise a dispute with PRS which will put any royalties on hold until the dispute is sorted out. Just had a look at the the Transcend roster and there are more than a few people on there who could do with loosing a stone or two...
