I just LOVE the way every single bass on that page has its very own name.

And some of those names are just SO cute ...

Take a look at this lot:

In the design meeting "It needs something...... just a little something extra..... A LION!....... yes!.......that's what it needs"
[/quote]

OK, so "loewe" is German for "lion", let's add a stylised lion to our basses.

Hmmmm.

So we can make an Alembic by adding two glass jars to our basses then?

The reason that I bought the Alembic was that I was after a Chapman Stick at the time and the seller offered me such a good deal on the pair that I went for it. The bass did not go down well - looks or sound - with my then band and the fact that I was pretty much rooted to the spot with the 27volt(?) phantom power box pissed me off no end. It lasted 3 months and I traded it for...........a Status Series II !!!

Mind you I quite like the bass in the third photo - or perhaps its just that anything beside Jeff Berlin looks good

I thought it was an advert for George at Asda. Then I noticed they all had basses with mock Tudor door knockers on.

Exactly, far too literal. Imagine if Leo Fender had put big chrome fenders on his basses over the pickups....... oh.....hang on a minute.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Alembics are designed by blind guys. Their custome jobs are almost universally gross. I think there are a couple of old Series 1 and 2 basses that I would play and the Stan Clarke model is not too bad but some of them....

There aren't many instruments on that page I wouldn't want except maybe the ones with more than 6 strings.

Having had a fender precision for longer than I care to remember I can state quite happily that I'd never want to buy another one. Way too boring to look at. In fact I'm unlikely to ever buy a bass with fewer than 5 strings and even then it would have to be neck-through with some pretty special figuring in the wood for me to show any interest.

I don't like: well, anything bar Fender Precisions, really! Not even Jazz Basses to any great degree. I do have a (small) soft spot for original shape Yamaha BBs, and fortunately that shape still exists in the current series (because I have one!), but there were one or two 'BB's that looked entirely different...

The green Spector  :santa: that is a beautiful guitar

I haven't really tried enough basses to dislike properly sorry !!! or even spent too much on a bass that wasn't worth it , but , I have a feeling that Fender has a snob value with some that I don't get .

Sunburst doesn't do it for me either it just seems soooo dated .

the 'violin' style might get knocked but its a lightweight shortscale that my 11 yo daughter loves to pick up and play .

Why lump all Warwicks in the same boat? I love the shape of the Corvette (see my sig), but the rest look horrid, silly or just slightly out of proportion to me, so I'm not interested.

Apart from that, I'm in the traditional camp - the Fender shapes are just "right" (or we've just become used to them), but why spend loads more on a copy from another manufacturer?

Anything "roadworn". I want to stamp my own mark on my bass.

Basses with a silly shape bought (I may be wholly wrong here...) by bassists who want people to say "look at him, he must be interesting because his bass isn't like all the others."

Good job we're not all the same, or the "for sale" threads would be really dull!

That'll be me, that will. Fundamentally shallow. Mind you, they've also got to be nice to play.

That'd nearly be me, although I do have justification

My first bass was a Rickenbacker, friggin horrible

Then I had a choice between a Import B.C.Rich Ironbird or a 1979 USA B.C.Rich Bich, I hated the rear cut of the Bich, and never tried it, but loved the look of the Ironbird, bought it, then actually tried the Bich, and bought that too....... But I only ever buy the 8 string versions of the Bich so as to have an excuse for the horrid rear cut, I have also told the designer, that I thought he was drunk when he designed it

The Mockingbirds aren't really that extreme

The Widow basses, I love the symetricalness of them

I still have an Ironbird, it's away for repair, awesome shape

Warlocks, hate the shape, I have one, it was CHEAP

Other shapes BCR make or have made Seagulls, Zombies, Wraths, Virgins, Virgos, hate them all, won't be owning one at all

BTW, I did play a Bich bass in a Jazz band!

Here's my Ironbird
