1. What on earth would you have to do to get it into that condition? I've seen old garden tools in better condition than that.
2. aargh I'm working that weekend.
3. Cracking bassline/playing. Would take me months to work that out by ear.
4.
All the wood has to do is remain stable and keeps the important parts in the right places. I don't believe it makes any difference to the sound at all, Strings, pick ups, bridge and technique do, though.
you are correct.
5. Anyone tried making the compressor?
6.
You can go a long way in music if you know what to blow and when...
Cilla Black would agree.
7. These have been up for a while. I amazed that no one would want a pink Paisley bass.
8. How do you know that a highly skilled luthier wouldn't just stick it over his knee and give it quick crack?
9. Things have gotten so bad that I have started sneaking out to the garden shed and cooking up my own basses from raw wood.
10. Ah ok. Have a quick look at this, there may be something local to you: http://thewoodhaven.co.uk/resources/uk-wood-suppliers/ There will be more dotted about but the guys that run these things don't tend to advertise very well... all my local suppliers were found through word of mouth.
11. Does it need to be mahogany? Plenty of decent native species around.
12. Well done Slapbassteve. I bet your face was a picture when that happened.
13.
Can you suggest someone who could do this for me?
It would not be hard to DIY. You could get it water/lazer cut for not much money, it's just a square with rounded corners. I've just had an idea: Get a schaller 3d which has a maximum of 15mm but comes with a 3mm spacer in the box. Extra spacers can be ordered to make up your height. 14. Can't think of any that go quite that high. What about making a thick shim out of silver/bright steel for a standard bridge?
15. Being a bit harsh aren't you? Just a bunch of young lads.
16. Buy one of these and modify it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/strimmer-harness
17. Brilliant. I will use these in my next builds. I try to use Brit stuff if I can.
18. That G&L is a gorgeous. I ended up getting one of these: Got it second hand off of Gumtree after deciding to keep the bass and buy something a bit more sensible. It sounds really nice after a string change and a quick set up. Thanks for the suggestions.
19. Well I went in and buggered about for an hour or so but didn't buy anything in the end. Quite liked the Les Paul and SG shaped things though.
20. Don't use wire wool. Messy 'orrible stuff that can stain and will stick to magnetic things - like your pickups. A clean with alcohol/naptha/meths and a rub with fine Scotch brite would do.
21. Good info, I feel like I'm getting a bit more focused. Am I the only one who feels overwhelmed with choice nowadays? I do like the look of Shecter guitars and Guitarguitar is my nearest favoured shop...
22. I think they are a better suit to Glastonbury than Jay-Z was.
