Mine STILL hasnt arrived from Dawsons!

My local shop in Cardiff - Cranes has just had two in and I was twanging one of them not an hour ago.

Likes:

Brass nut, helps get that 'punchy' sound and rare on a mid price Bass these days.

Wide neck profile. Nice amount of room between the strings.

SDQP PUP's nice fat warm sound.

Finish looks and feels good.

Dislikes:

There is a rather 'garish' brick in the wall logo on the scratchplate film - very cheesy

PUP's are missing the 'basslines' logo????. Just look like standard PUP's to me.

Feels nice and plays well, can't wait for mine to 'effing turn up!

It looks like I could devour it. What a beauty!
If I ever have a P-bass... this would be it.

dislike the missing "basslines" logo? It's one of the "plus" points to me! :)
the film can be removed, I take it...

+1

That logo always cheapens the look of a nice bass IMO.

I played the same bass in Cardiff Cranes today, and its a P bass...

The film comes off, and i thought it looked better without 'basslines' on it, the black hardware doesn't look good though and american standard black/black maple would look better...did I mention it was a P bass?? The changes are so minimal I don't quite understand why Fender bothered.

I'm a huge floyd fan (they're my favourite band) but I don't like it one bit.

I'd have much preferred a reissue of the Pbass he used at the Live in Pompeii film (the sunburst one with the chrome pickup cover- it also happens to be the one used to record Dark Side)...in fact I may even cobble together my own.

Historically its not an accurate reproduction of any of his basses, let alone the one from the Wall era (which I assume it purports to be since it has a Wall protective film applied to the pickguard).

It baffles me why its got all black hardware then chrome/nickle machine heads and none of his basses - to my knowledge - had the 50s neck profile (but I could stand corrected in this).

I guess he's using it on the current Wall tour so thats the tie-in but for my money i'd rather mod another precision.

Thats the bit I don`t get, it just looks "wrong" to me. Whilst I think black machineheads may have been a bit overboard, smoke grey ones, like on the Aerodyne could have really set this bass off nicely.

It's just a P bass.

how is it different from any other P???

To be honest I think it's ridiculous. It's just my view please don't be offended. I'll explain.

A signature instrument should be different, unique and memorable of an era. Pastorius' bass is unique and worth a signature bass although even then Fender couldn't be arsed to epoxy coat the neck. But otherwise the P bass knobs, the replaced frets with wood strip, the removed scratch plate etc makes a unique bass.

This is just a black body P with maple neck and replaced pickups. Not entirely sure about the pickups replacement either.

I just don't get it.

That's a very extreme reaction to a humble Precision bass...
