1. Am surprised this is still for sale! Had I the money, would be all over this. Maybe it's a lean time of year, it certainly is for me. Have a bump on me...

 3.
It seems to be me that every barefaced user is Whiteknighting (for lack of a better word) Barefaced and making it seem like the cabs can do no wrong, which is very similar to what happened when Ashdown gear was popular on here and was first questioned as to how great it really was. (And look what happened to the opinion of Ashdowns on BC) And another thing is that people appear to be passing comment on my minor comments on the cab itself, when the bulk of the problems in my review were in the experience of buying the cab in the first place. I have already said i was going to wait til the speakers bedded in. Probably going to run a few music files through it of low bass tones. Alex has emailed me to sort out some settings i can use to get the tone i want, like i knew he would!
Like almost all other Barefaced owners, I'll put my hand up to being an evangelist. My compact has made my gigging life so much easier, I can't describe it. I gig a fair amout so I'm well out of the honeymoon priod: I got the cab in early April and have done around 60 gigs so far and it gets all kinds of physical abuse. At the risk of labouring a point, I'm also of a generation that equates weight with quality and I've had no issues whatsoever. My Compact is part of what gives me a large chunk of my income and if it was substandard in any way I just wouldn't stand for it, no matter how nice a guy Alex is. However, Shockwave's issues are valid and he feels a bit hard-done-by in some respects and as a paying Barefaced customer, I believe he has more right to have an opinion on Alex's service than those that have not dealt with him. He's handed over a huge wedge and has the absolute right to be completely satisfied with every aspect of his purchase. I'm sure we all have horror stories of really crappy customer service! Alex's company is still young and mistakes will always happen. Obviously, I'm not aware of every detail on this case but I can see Alex is taking responsibility for any errors and working with Shockwave to come to a resolution. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again from Alex and in fact am saving up for a midget to boost my output, now that my band are no longer using bass bins in the PA. P.S. Hang in in there for that bottom end, Shockwave; it's well worth it!
 4.
What about your audience though? If it's angled back at you, are they going to hear it? I'm looking forward to trying the loaner when it makes its way over here, but wonder if I'd have to consider running into the PA too, if it's that directional? Cheers, James
I guess it's because the higher frequencies are a bit more directional and perhaps come out in a kind of cone shape from the speaker and thus angling the cab puts our ear level within that cone. The audience can hear all frequencies because they are within that cone by virtue of being further away. That analogy may be completely flawed, however. I don't actually know what I'm talking about, I've just made observations about what works for me. Any minute now, Alex or Bill F will come along and start talking about stuff like 'off axis' and 'boundry reinforecement', which quite frankly goes over my head most of the time (no pun intended).
+1. Our drummer was always amazed that he could clearly hear the Compact when it was positioned almost evenly beside him. Tilting the cab up is also a good idea.
Bear in mind that not only is he sitting, which makes his ear level much lower. He's also probably not so bothered about hearing the detail, just the SPL, of which the Compact has in spades.
 5.
or it could be that the compact is the problem and not for you?
Could be but unlikely. I would strongly advise following the advice above about pickup height. What I found useful initially with the Compact is to have it tilted back with a wedge under the front of the cab, which 'aims' the cab more toward your head. These days I raise the cab up off the floor entirely with a fold-away storage crate I take with me to every gig. I have absolutely no problem hearing what I play everywhere on whatever bass I use through this cab.

 7.
Here's a bit of blub about the SWR from the original seller:
"And as if by magic, the shop keeper appeared"
Only if you weren't being sensible!
Absolutely! Owned this for several years, with some very powerful amps. It's a truly amazing cab, whoever bought it is in for a treat. Other cabs and amps came and went but I always kept it and only sold it when I went over to the lighter side. They're not light but those drivers (original) are some of the best Eminence ever produced, IMO. Deep but so clear, I didn't even need the tweeter on to hear myself and left it out of the cab most of the time. I fitted the best quality crossover I could find and the tweeter is very musical. It's perhaps a good thing I've only just spotted this thread, I'd have been sorely tempted to buy it back, despite being a bit strapped ATM.
 8. Howdy. Don't live in Essex but seem to spend most of my weekends there gigging. Welcome to basschat. We're generally friendly, except for the belligerent old fogeys! Of which I am one on occasion
 9. Bought my Markbass 1x12 combo. All went very quickly and smoothly. Thanks for a great transaction.

 11.
PM'd you mate
And replied..... Should mention that collection or delivery is possible in North London and Essex area. Delivery will be at fuel cost. Would be prepared to courier (still have all the packaging!) at your cost and you're welcome and encouraged to arrange your own courier.
 12. About 16-18 months old and in excellent condition. These days I mainly seem to be using my pre/power amp and barefaced Compact cab so this is relegated to backup, which is a bit of a waste. Exactly the same as the current model, the only differences as far as I'm aware are the differences between the LMII and LMIII, which are negligeable (additions: pre/post EQ button for the DI and a 'line out' dial). RRP new is over a £1000 new but prices seem to be about £800, give or take. Am in no hurry to sell, so I'm going to set the price at £550. Ultimately, I want a another Barefaced cab (1x15 Compact or 1x12 Midget) and a small, lightweight backup amp (e.g. Ashdown little giant 350). Trades or P/X along these lines would be considered.
 13. Bought Finbar's last (less powerful) QSC PLX Power amp off him only a few months back and was very pleased with his service and am still overjoyed with the amp itself. Would strongly recommend.
 14. A shame the CV's don't seem to be any lighter than 'standard'. I was hoping that they would be, given that they're basswood. Initial reviews I read claimed this and I've been craving one ever since the loss of my beloved '83 JV Squier jazz, exactly the same colouring as the CV Jazz, which does not help my GAS in the least.
 15. Hi bennifer is looking for such items for a college (in Farnborough I think). Here's the thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=61171
 16.
Tried a few pedals today. Some of the Electro Harmonix stuff was too fuzzy. The Boss OD was to harsh, but I was really impressed with the MXR blowtorch, when it's really cranked it does go a bit synthy. Plus the eq means I can get it to cut right through the mix. Thanks for the advice! I think I've decided on the MXR blowtorch, it's one of the few suggestions I was able to try and I was impressed by it. Ed
Glad I could help, let us know how it goes.
 17. Send a 20Kg used Peavey power amp via "Interlink Direct". They seem to farm the work out to other courier companies and in this case it was DPD. (-1) Interlink direct. It's difficult to find their number to call them and they stop answering phones an hour before the latest collection time, so you can't call them if your parcel isn't collected, which it wasn't. Having said that, once you actually get them on the phone, they are quite helpful. The email support service is OK but slow. (-2) DPD. Didn't bother to turn up to collect the first time. If I'd had to make the effort to be at home (8:30am to 5:30pm, talk about barn door!), I'd have been livid instead of just annoyed. Despite the amp being double walled with cardboard, then wrapped in about 2M of bubble wrap, they still managed to bend a wrack mount ear. Other than that, seemed to get there in one piece.
 18. You might try the MXR bass blowtorch. Not only can you control distortion/fuzz level but there's a blend too, so you can dial in as much or as little in. There's a 3 band EQ and a 3-way switch to let you select mid frequency. When I hit the the red button on the side I get mental, almost synth fuzz. Use it for playing Muse songs live and just as overdrive. I think it will sort you right out.
 19. Shame you're in S. Wales, would have had this.
 20.
How heavy is that case, complete with wheels? (Empty, obviously. )
Will weigh it and get back to you. No more than 10KG at the absolute maximum I would have though but will find out exactly.
 21. The more observant amongst you may also notice a price reduction to a measley £35. At that price, it's great just as storage!
 22. Bought a QSC PXL1202 power amp from Finbar. Great price and item, good communication and arrived well packaged. Would recommend.
 23.
i really really really would buy this.... but i wouldn't be able to afford a cab that can handle 1000W or 500W lol not the ones i want at least, (Ampeg SVT 410HLE or the one i really want, an Ampeg SVT-810E) i can't afford either either way, so this power amp would just collect dust for the best part if not all of 12 months plus =S
OK, fair enough. FWIW, you don't really need to run this bridged all the time. I've been been running just one channel of my power amp going into a single cab for ages without problem. With an 8Ohm cab on a single channel it produces 270W, which most fairly modern cabs can easily handle. It would be great to put a cab on each channel until you can afford the big cab. You can easily do this by using a patch cable to put it into parallel mode.
