1. Hey guys, I saw this over at Talkbass recently and after watching thought you guys may appreciate it. It's a pretty well-done documentary chronicling fuzz boxes over the years with interviews with some big boutique names along with a look at the players vs. pedal hoarders/noise makers debate (and how online forums create hype and increase the value of certain pedals). A great way to kill 90 minutes
2. Is this the older model with the front lip or the newer one without?
3.
Also the Mooer units aren't generally worth your time I've found. I think the shimmerVerb might be alright, but the rest of the stuff ive tried has been dire.
A local guitarist who hasn't used effects for years bought a handful of Mooers recently and has been using them regularly. The reverb seems to be the one he favours the most. It sounds good enough on guitar for live use IMO.
4. As far as I'm aware all Stingrays are ash.
5. In terms in feel I've always found GHS Boomers to be very pleasant under the fingers. That said, my favourite strings are DR Sunbeams for feel, tone and lifespan.
6. To reiterate what others have said: I'm a big fan of Ed's videos. Even if the piece of gear isn't to my taste he is always able to provide musical, honest demonstrations in realistic contexts that are always a joy to listen to.
7. I'd help if I could but I've never attempted using software-based effects I'm afraid.
8. Of all the muff circuits I've tried the TFR is my favourite. It's not on my board at the moment but I am tempted by the You're Doom for lower gain fuzz. Muffs aren't for everyone. Even though the TFR has some strong low mids there's definitely still a mid scoop going on that my or may not work in a band situation.
9. Depends on the rock band in question. AC/DC? No, of course not. Weezer? Yes.
10. There isn't any chance there's something you'd be interested in trading with cash? I keep a plethora of bits and bobs in the man-cave so I may have something to whet your whistle.
11. Some excellent boards being posted, as per usual I've been waiting on a Subterranea for a few months now. I'm getting tempted by the You're Doom fuzz while I wait though!
12. This is just like my first bass except in my favourite colour and older. God I miss that bass. If I had the income to spend on this I would. GLWTS.
13. And fuzz is for synth! But I've yet to have a gig that required a synth sound (still fun for bedroom Musings )
14. Mind you, having a brief re-think about it, I guess it very much comes down to what genre you play primarily. I mostly play blues with some rock and pop thrown in depending on the gig. I play everything in the bedroom as I like to keep well rounded. I don't like fuzzes for playing faster things as, in my humble opinion, they get messy and lose definition (even the nicer ones with blends and the like). Personal taste I guess. I prefer something grindy if I need dirt for something faster like prog or metal. When I think fuzz I think of 60s tracks, early 90s alt-rock, stoner/doom metal. Not that I'm trying to stay in the box, just my personal taste (then again, I'm not a fuzz guy at heart! )
15.
He's certainly not as bad as that guy who plays slap bass WHATEVER pedal he uses, which is especially pointless for fuzz pedals
Most definitely. Excane isn't bad, I just tend to find myself getting frustrated when he gets carried away with fast doodling.
16.
amusing, as excane's playing is so annoying to me I can't listen to his demos
I agree. He demos some nice gear and the videos are great quality but he plays too many notes for my taste. Not being boring and miserable, I just like to hear how notes decay and if there are any envelope qualities going on between notes like swells of gain or changes to texture.
17. If I could, I would. I've wanted a Euro 4LX for years now.
18. From what I can see he does some fine work, that man
19. Nice boards as usual dudes
20.
The Talkbass threads on this pedal are rather amusing, so many people gushing over it and ready to hand their money over before they've even heard clips! Very interested to hear both of these though, I wasn't aware of Spencer's either! My favorite fuzz so far is the Team Awesome Fuzz Machine - only reason I would get rid of that is if they brought out a better/smaller version!
I don't go to Talkbass much anymore because the effects board is home to a few tits who annoy me =\
21. Just to clarify I don't mean to sound mean, my comment was a bit like, it's good but could be better. I'm sure those guys will grow up to be pretty talented musos.
22.
I hate these kids
Respect for playing that well at that age but that performance felt like it was dragging and the phrasing could be a lot better in parts.
