1.
so this means you won't be buying my fuzzrocious rat tail, or you will?
Alas! Unfortunately I've never heard a clip of a Rat, clone or otherwise that I've liked *For diplomacy's sake, not that there's anything wrong with Rats, just not my bag of tricks
2.
ha - started browsing this thread at half time in the footy and had to go play my TFR! i think i'm the opposite to Ant, love low gain o/d and muffy fuzz, but distortion doesn't do that much for me. why the hell did I just buy a sodding rat tail!!! another pedal heading to the classifieds soon!
Without sounding creepy, I've noticed that we've shared a similar taste in pedals and dirt for quite a while lol. I like my B3K set to low-medium gain but I do like to crank it up along with the treble with a P bass, pick and fresh rounds for those Takeshi Ueda moments
3. I've used a Dual Tube 550 Spyder for a good while. From my understanding the only difference is the 330 uses a MAG power section while the 550 uses an ABM power section. It's been a good head. Not a great deal of versatility. A bit of a one-trick pony but you can add or remove treble, mids and bass to that sound. And it is a very good trick that it does I've gigged mine for nearly two years and have never had any problems. Seems solid enough and has given me no issues. Currently selling it if you're interested
4. I found that running the B3K into the fuzz produced a fuzz that was more prone to glitchy sounds due to the accented high end. I like to treat the B3K as the front end of an amp; for some applications I use it as an always on tone and then the fuzz's reaction to my playing remains the same but colour is changed by the B3K. That said, I like to run the B3K into a BB sometimes to add some mids and warm up the sound while maintaining the B3K's grind (sounds more muddy running the BB into the B3K). I wouldn't use the TFR and B3K for the gigs I'm doing as the sound is too extreme and scooped. It would make an awesome tone if I was playing in something heavier, or as a two piece.
5. Also, I really how the TFR's character can change depending on what you run it into. Here's a rough clip I recorded running the TFR into a B3K (P bass with dead strings): https://soundcloud.com/bigbassbob/girltfrb3k
6. I got mine from Prymaxe's eBay store. I used to have a PPB and I still have a Tri Pie 70. This is all in my humble opinion but I think the TFR is the best out of the three for bass. The PPB was a pretty sick fuzz but a bit too... not harsh, but synth-like? Amazing pedal but it didn't really fit with my current projects. The Tri Pie 70 is also great but it shines more with guitar than bass. Certainly not unusable by any means. The TFR has a special something in the low mids. When I tried it out on a recent gig I could feel the low end punching the back of my knees with each note (pretty much the same as when I was playing clean) while the fuzziness just filled everything else. It was perfect for making the whole band sound bigger.
7. I'd also like to add that it was not intentional at all. I felt like I needed something a bit more growly and aggressive in my collection and after taking it out on a few gigs the Stingray just seems to be the one that calls to me for this band.
8. No pics but just wanted to update and say that the 2 band Stingray I got from Higgie last year has become my main player in my blues trio. Still love the precisions and Ric, but the 'Ray sits in the mix wonderfully. Using the Ps for another project.
9.
Nice choice. They'd be mad to.. I have the TH500, but now really need some DB' 12's to go with it. Edit, you might be better off posting this in the items wanted section.
Funnily enough I have some DB112s and I'm after a TH500

I've never encountered a moment where I was wishing for more power and I've never pushed this amp hard. Obviously with its use it has a few aesthetic nicks and the like which I've tried to capture in the photographs below (a few nicks in the vinyl and the rubber at the edge of the plastic handle has started to split due to the design but it's not peeling away and still works just as it should). There are no noisy pots or any other issues with performance I've replaced the stock Shuguang 12AX7Bs with a NOS Telefunken ECC83 and an Electro Harmonix ECC82. While changing the tubes around doesn't produce a night and day difference, I feel that this amp sounds best with this combination. However, I will also include a handful of preamp valves for you to try out: The stock tubes are the two on the left and there's a JJ ECC83s in the EHX 12AU7/ECC82 box. Thanks for looking! Bob.
11. Shem just picked up a Korg DT10 from me. Clear comms, prompt payment and a hassle-free experience. Would definitely recommend!
12. Phil just bought my MXR M87. Great comms, VERY prompt payment. A no BS transaction, just like it should be Would be more than happy to do business with him again.
13. Worth a try Out of curiosity, is there any low end loss at all with the EQ controls at noon? I really love my Xotic BB but just recently I've been tempted to try something similar but with a different gain structure.
14.
How is the Pwnzor?
Here's some brief thoughts copy pasted from a a convo I had with someone over at Talkbass: I'm no connoisseur of compressors; my first compressor was an EBS Multicomp, then I tried a few different pedals before going back to the Multicomp. Afterwards I changed to the MXR. The feel of the Pwnzor is more reminiscent to that of the EBS. This is probably due to the low ratio of both pedals and relaxed attack speed. That said, it doesn't impart its own sound on your tone as much as the EBS did and I have more control of the Pwnzor. The MXR didn't add anything really to my sound and acted, in comparison, as a limiter more than anything else. The noise floor is lower with the Pwnzor than the MXR (with my own equipment). If you want clinical, fast compression the MXR is a great choice. If you want something that adds a bit of extra "oomph" to your sound I'd pick the Pwnzor; what it does is subtle but adds a touch more life to my sound. This isn't a great example but I recorded a short clip today to show a friend what compression does to a bass' signal: https://soundcloud.com/bigbassbob/pwnzor First run through is without the Pwnzor, then with. As the last note decays I turn the Pwnzor off and back on intermittently to show how a compressor can take a quiet signal and amplify it while keep spikes in check. Recorded with a Stingray > Pwnzor > OLD Hartke 20 watt combo > SM58 I really like the Pwnzor so far, but I have been able to distort it by digging HARD with my my hottest output basses. So long as I don't dig in like that (which I'd never do in a live situation) I'm quite confident that this will be a permanent member of my board. Just need to try it on some upcoming gigs
15. I've been eyeing these up lately and I'm starting to get GAS. If I can sell a few more bits (and then my current amp) I'll probably pick one up
16. I'm just going to point out that this is the wrong forum for selling stuff.
17. Bump for additional items and price reductions!
18. I need some more time to get acquainted with the Pwnzor as I haven't been able to run it through my gig rig. I will be testing it on a gig next weekend though. Initial impressions are positive. It's definitely a different animal to the M87... slower attack speed and has a far more natural feeling response. Definitely a compressor designed to beef up your sound. In comparison I'd say the M87 acts like a limiter. I tried the BB into the B3K and Tall Font. I liked how you can push the Tall Font into another level of fuzz but I preferred the response of the B3K being first in the chain. Running into the BB first muddied things up a touch whereas the running it afterwards adds some warmth to the B3K, some mids and accentuates the high end attack.
19. It seemed like the most sensible thing to do. Those Daka-Ware knobs look cool but being all-black against an all-black pedal makes reading settings at a gig impossible.
