Quite! I could get lovely sounds out of the B3K no matter what my amp settings. You can manipulate its tone even further if you EQ its sound (either at bass or amp). I recorded this using an active P bass with DEAD roundwounds (treble boosted) into the B3K to an old Hartke 20 watt combo (8 inch speaker) mic'd with a cheap SM58 copy > PC. Not an ideal recording setup. It's a very repetitive song but I'd recommend skipping to the middle 8 if you get bored. You can hear how the pedal's timbre accents heavier pick attacks tastefully. The gain is set deceptively high which goes to show how well this pedal can punch through with a butt load of dirt. Apologies for sloppy parts, I'm not a pick player primarily but that is no excuse https://soundcloud.com/bigbassbob/madcapsb3mmp3

I read on Talkbass that the OD circuits are identical with the active 4 band and D.I. after it so I hope it sounds the same flat. The main reasons I'm upgrading are: 1. Ability to fine tune the tone a bit more with the EQ. 2. Ability to use it as an EQ boost when the blend is down. 3. Convenient placement on the board (it will literally fit just fit on comfortably and looking neat at the end of the chain so the D.I. and buffered switch are an added bonus for me).

Please let me know how it is! I'm excited to get one but at the same time I'm going to cry myself to sleep if it doesn't have the same magic as the B3K I sold to hamfist.

The band I play in. Apparently we're sexual deviants...

Your singer definitely has a sultry vibe going but nothing shocking, especially when you consider the sort of acts you see on talent shows on BBC/ITV on a Saturday evening. Sounds like this letter was written by an envious better half! -
You have to rub it in. I can't afford my B7K until Monday... I miss my B3K already!

As far as I'm aware 4003 necks adjust like other basses you just have to adjust the two rods carefully. It's the 4001 that you have to put pressure on the headstock and tighten the neck with the rods.

Also my rule of thumb is this: S.K.H.S. - Shep Knows His S***

The Velcro brand stuff is great. I've used normal and heavy duty over the years and it's always worked well (actually just ordered some 50mm tape from Amazon thanks to this thread as I'd run out although the 20mm isn't bad from what I remember). Beware of the cheap stuff though! Once or twice I've bought white velcro tape that was a bit cheap and the adhesive came off the back rendering the tape pointless.

Hi guys, Up for sale is my Darkglass B3K. I'm sure most of you are very familiar with this pedal but if not it is an EXCELLENT overdrive/distortion that leans on the side of aggressive. This pedal really growls and it has been on my board for quite a while now. The only reason I'm selling it is because I'm after a B7K as I've got room on my pedalboard now to fit one on. This pedal is in great condition and comes with its original box (pedal is practically mint with velcro on the bottom). I'm after [s]£145[/s] SOLD posted for this. Feel free to ask any questions and the like. Again, this is a wonderful pedal and I really don't see me going without a B3K or B7K on my board in the future. Cheers! Bob.

My first gigging rig was a MAG300 head with a 4x10. It had no power and was completely unable to keep up at gigs. I sold it to another bass player. 12 months later it blew up at a gig. I used an ABM500 for a good few years which was a nice enough head. Thick, warm tone and had some snap to it when required. It wasn't amazing but the tone was pleasant and it sat in the mix well. Had it serviced several times though, once due to noise issues and another time to replace all the pots. Never REALLY liked the sound until I ditched the Ashdown 4x10 and moved onto Aguilar 112s. Then I moved onto a 550 Spyder which actually sounded nicer to me than the ABM500. It served me well for a good while until I started to fancy something more flexible. After selling the 550 I bought a TH 500 which I am absolutely in love with. I don't see me ever going back to Ashdown again. I'd also like to point out that some of the artists that endorsed Ashdown have moved onto other rigs. Adam Clayton moved onto Aguilar and I'm sure I saw a picture of Mark King using a different rig... TC Electronics I think?

Tuner, Thumpinator (as it's the only buffer in my chain and it does its thing well), OD and compression (I could live without this but I always like to have a decent compressor at hand as it can prove invaluable in some situations). I like a little touch of grit for some songs I do and it helps fill the sound out a bit for when our guitarist drops out to solo.

Took the Tone Hammer 500 on its first gig tonight. It sounded great... and deceptively LOUD
