1. Aguilar got back to me. They're going to look into it and get in touch on Tuesday due to the long weekend. Unfortunately I can't mount the Thumpinator underneath as there's not enough clearance from the floor but it could be fixed if I put some big feet on it.
2. I'd got for the BB. The Phat Phuk is good but the BB is more versatile, can get pretty phat and do that Jack Bruce thing with the gain up and treble rolled back a bit.
3. I've emailed Aguilar to ask if the Tone Hammer 500 has a HPF. If so I can remove the Thumpinator from the board which would leave me room to do this: I helped out some friends get some metal bass tones last night and I fell in love with the TFR (as did everyone else, especially with the B7K). I'm going to do a gig tonight without tweeters and see if I can get it to work in the mix. For tonight my setup is as such: (I haven't fully gotten to grips with the B7K but I've managed to get a nice, low gain, growly tone out of it which isn't as warm as the BB but would serve the purpose of filling the bass out when our guitarist solos... I'll let you know how it goes.) I'm also going to try the TFR with lower gain tonight.
4. Nice board, Kev! I must say it'd be nice to have a Phat Phuk again. Such a lovely, warm sounding pedal but I found I could get an approximate sound with a BB pre so I figured that would take its place.
5. It's hard to say. I guess it's down to personal preference and equipment. I tried running an active Fender through my equipment and noticed a very slight treble roll off. Noticed it more with a passive. I'd say it's healthy to have at least one buffer on a board. With an active bass it's not as important but if you had only passives I'd definitely put one in the chain. The B7K has to have a buffered bypass in order for the DI to work when the pedal's disengaged apparently.
6. In fact, after toying with the idea I would happily not post pictures of my Ric on this board ever again, even if it's just to prove a point to Mr. Hall. Go for the full ban I say.
7. I love my 4003 but I'd like to point out I've changed my signature.
8. Anyone want to make a Matsumoku TRC for my 4003?
9. Ah right, I thought it was a question of whether or not it changes the tone while performing its function. I did notice with my live rig my cabs seem to sound a bit tighter in the lows and I don't have to push my amps quite as hard.
10. I like my 4003. It's not as nice to play as my Fenders or MM and it has a mid-range focused sound that can be a pain to EQ but I love its vibe. The attitude of John Hall has certainly poisoned my opinion of Rickenbacker over the years. I was banned from their forums for saying that I find John Hall's methods questionable on TALKBASS which goes to show the mentality of "you're with us or against us". Whenever I see crap like this crop up I'm always tempted to sell the Rick.
11. Thanks dudes. The Thumpinator doesn't change the tone as far as I can tell. I took it out the chain out of curiosity and noticed a slight roll off of treble (no buffers between bass and amp). Currently have two buffers now (Thump and B7K) and I don't perceive a difference in tone running clean.
12. That said, it is one of those "I can't sell this because it sounds too good" pieces of kit. It will be used in the future for other projects and recording.
13. Unfortunately I like to have at least one tweeter on 50% in my rig and the TFR doesn't sound that great unless I turn the tweeter off. That and my current projects don't really call for fuzz If I could fit it on I would.
14. Got the B7K today. I like it but the EQ certainly gives you something to think about; I found dialling in tones more difficult than the B3K but it is certainly more flexible. Will have to see how it sounds live:
15.
I'll give them that the other things I ordered came in good time (really good time) it's just incredibly frustrating when something like this happens. The power supply and cables I also ordered are pretty much useless without the board. After bouncing a few emails with them (their responses were top notch) they offered me some alternatives to the PT mini, 2 out of the 3 being more expensive. Maybe I was just unlucky.. The PT's on amazon are from a german company unfortunately, thanks for the suggestions though!
Well at least they were nice. I got the impression they'd sort of fobbed you off.
16. And in response to OP: There's some here being sold through Amazon Marketplace: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pedaltrain-Mini-Soft-Case-Pedalboard/dp/B002HQOWKE Could try eBay too.
17. Sorry if that sounds bitter and dismissive but I hate it when companies do this sort of stuff; working musicians NEED their gear for rehearsals and gigs. If they can take the time to mark other products out of stock then they should ensure they do it with all products (as this leads the customer to believe it's in stock when it's not... like in your case). Years ago I ordered a rig from Andertons. Paid for next day courier. Next day arrives, no show. Had to cancel a rehearsal. Next day, no show. Day after, no show. Ended up managing to borrow someone else's amp last minute for a weekend gig. I don't recall the conversations I had with them but it essentially boiled down to "it's in the courier's hands". Haven't bought anything from them since.
18. Well, I can safely say they've lost a potential customer here.
19. Mad Capsule Markets are also worth a mention (Digitech Whammy, overdrive, arpeggiators off the top of my head in different songs):
20. A LOT of Rage Against the Machine: http://youtu.be/AbGJeXShopk
21. Quite! I could get lovely sounds out of the B3K no matter what my amp settings. You can manipulate its tone even further if you EQ its sound (either at bass or amp). I recorded this using an active P bass with DEAD roundwounds (treble boosted) into the B3K to an old Hartke 20 watt combo (8 inch speaker) mic'd with a cheap SM58 copy > PC. Not an ideal recording setup. It's a very repetitive song but I'd recommend skipping to the middle 8 if you get bored. You can hear how the pedal's timbre accents heavier pick attacks tastefully. The gain is set deceptively high which goes to show how well this pedal can punch through with a butt load of dirt. Apologies for sloppy parts, I'm not a pick player primarily but that is no excuse https://soundcloud.com/bigbassbob/madcapsb3mmp3
22. I read on Talkbass that the OD circuits are identical with the active 4 band and D.I. after it so I hope it sounds the same flat. The main reasons I'm upgrading are: 1. Ability to fine tune the tone a bit more with the EQ. 2. Ability to use it as an EQ boost when the blend is down. 3. Convenient placement on the board (it will literally fit just fit on comfortably and looking neat at the end of the chain so the D.I. and buffered switch are an added bonus for me).
23. Please let me know how it is! I'm excited to get one but at the same time I'm going to cry myself to sleep if it doesn't have the same magic as the B3K I sold to hamfist.
24.
Grammar is a bit poor in the letter. Or is it just me?
No, you are correct.
25. Your singer definitely has a sultry vibe going but nothing shocking, especially when you consider the sort of acts you see on talent shows on BBC/ITV on a Saturday evening. Sounds like this letter was written by an envious better half!
