Fantastic, what an insane rock machine. Not one for those with a glass back!

F Basses - are they as good as Scott Devine says?
Chris2112 replied to Al Krow's topic in Bass Guitars
Just listen to Alain Caron with UZEB. That brilliant tone of his is all F Bass. -
She's done alright out of that then.

I guess the current guitarist got the sack so John could come back.

Can someone please explain Warwick pricing?
Chris2112 replied to Newfoundfreedom's topic in General Discussion
You're thinking of the Streamer - all maple, neck thru, NS body shape, high mass single piece bridge, EMG and active preamp - yeah, very much the Spector recipe! I used to have a Streamer Ltd Edition 1990 model, which was all maple neck thru with two Bartolini soapbars. It was very middy, bright and aggressive. Any Spector fan would have loved it. -

I know MEC electronics have often cited as a weak point in Warwick basses but I really don't think they deserve the stick they get. It made sense for Warwick to move to an in-house electronic package for profitability and though I generally prefer Bartolini and EMG pickups, I think Warwick made a pretty good go of developing some decent pickups and preamps for their basses. Certainly, their chosen voicing seems to suit the basses themselves and I don't think anything is lost by keeping an MEC set in place. OTOH, I found Stuart Zender's tone very crappy and bland. I've never seen what the fuss was about with that bloke, but the sound of EMG P/J's can be a thing of beauty - Victor Wooten makes them sing. -
Things your children have said about bass

My eldest daughter shouts "Jeff Berlin!" whenever she sees him on the television (we watch a lot of music stuff on youtube). He's the only bassist she recognises, other than me. -
What a situation. You know these guys better than we do, obviously, and your conclusion that this was all driven by the drummer is probably correct. If this has been pending since your clash over his playing a little while back, he's probably just been maneuvering to sack you since then anyway. The fact that the guitarist didn't have anything to say over the matter makes me think all the more that the drummer was the motivator behind this. I'd tell them to stick the gig up their derrières.

Warwick's range is now more confused than ever. They have a number of different ranges and it may not be clear to the uninitiated just what they're looking at. GPS Team-built is the German-made range, but not the Custom Shop. They are analogous to the old German-made 'basic' range which included everything from the Corvette Standard right up to the Dolphin Pro II and the Streamer Stage II. There are a range of discontinued Korean models called the 'Pro Series'. The 'Rockbass' range is the cheap tut, but even their prices have absolutely ballooned in recent years. They do a Rockbass Robert Trujillo Streamer that retails at nearly £1500! Warwick have always been expensive to buy new, relative to their competition. -
Notable basses belonging to basschatters
Chris2112 replied to EBS_freak's topic in General Discussion
Whilst I don't want to appear to engage in some sort of braggadocio, it struck me when trying to think of other notable Basschat basses that I own one, as my Bogart Blackstone has been sold through the classifieds here (although I bought it from The Gallery). It used to belong to Stuart Clayton and he used it in the below video, which has nearly 60,000 views on YouTube. For a small brand like Bogart, that may make it the most-seen Bogart bass in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDcc2zD62Ag -

The one that comes to mind for me is Crazykiwi's old Alembic Series I with a graphite neck. A total dream instrument for me. Another notable one was the 'Miss Myrtle' Status owned by OutToPlayJazz. I remember that one well. Was it sold to another BC'er? -
I seem to recall Geoff Gould saying that Modulus' move to fitting truss rods was driven by customer demand even though they weren't needed. Same story with Status Graphite too.

A gorgeous bass indeed, it sounds as thought it has truly been rescued from it's sad fate. I hope now, finally, you can just enjoy it!

This is my experience with them. They're not bad basses by any stretch, and their sound is inoffensive but there isn't anything particularly magical about it. I rather think their reputation has persisted since the days when they were the foremost purveyor of boutique jazz basses. The world has moved on though, and there are a lot of builders out there now who make a better jazz bass, or just a better bass altogether, IMO.

Songs that start promisingly and then...oh dear
Chris2112 replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Bloody hell, I had never heard the full song though I was familiar with the intro. It makes sense as the rest of it after the intro is flipin' crap! What were they thinking? -
Yes, I did own this bass, buying it from Greenking in Haltwistle around 2010. We met halfway-ish, since I live in Northumberland and he was coming from the Lakes. It was a stunning bass in many ways, exceptionally made and with a fantastic tonal palette. I sold or traded it to Romania IIRC but I can't recall what for. I had a 1987 or 1988 Status Series II at the time that was my first choice pick for a fretted. As amazing as the preamp in the ACG was, it really encouraged me to noodle and I spent a lot of time just faffing on with the controls when I got it out. More my fault than that of the instrument. A good one and one that deserves to find a home forever. I would have bought it back but there are still a few things on my list that I haven't owned yet, before I start buying back old toys!

He suited the eyebrows. His eyes must have been stinging with sweat at every live show in the 80's.

I think these Anaconda basses are some of the most impressive instruments being made in the UK at the moment. They really look unreal.

I am going to withdraw this listing on the basis that I think I've made a terrible mistake. I recorded a short video yesterday night to show the function of the bass before I packed it. After wrapping it in about 30m of bubble wrap I listened to the video back and thought 'bloody hell, is that what that bass sounds like?'. Even the split coil, the pickup I so rarely use, sounded really great. If anything, I really need to make an effort to play this more and to make more room for a fretless in my day to day playing. On the basis I might never hold another Pentabuzz if I let this go, I will keep hold of it. Thank you to everyone who messaged me about it, I am sure my wife will be thrilled to see the work she put into helping me pack it was wasted 😂

A true shame that you've had to give up but you have to trust yourself to know what's best for you. Going to the gym is key of course, as you've identified. If I have a heavy couple of weeks at work and I miss the gym I feel lazy and lose all my energy. You have to use a little to get a lot.

I used to pick up calls in the night at work with no-one there. I used to joke that they were phone calls from another dimension. The briefing room phone would sometimes ring, and I noticed an oddly flat sounding ringtone on occasion. Often on answering, there would be no-one there or the sound of static, or the line would disconnect. I think that there must have been a fault in the line with other people in the organisation trying to ring through, or members of the public trying to ring in and their calls getting misdirected. Still, not as creepy as these weird calls you have been getting!

Impromptu Newcastle bass bash - Precision Special (PICS)
Chris2112 replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
That is really cool. I used to work on Clifford Street and still get to Byker most days of the week. It's nice to see that there are still cool things hidden away that I didn't know even know were there. -

There are a few. I used to play at the off Quay behind The Cluny. A friend of mine plays at The Little Rooms which I think are off Albion Row and there is another place right in the middle of the Byker Wall on Commercial Road. The place is well served for rehearsal rooms!
