1. depends on the gigs your doing. Really you need both so you can play jazz on the fodera and pop on the fender
 2. there was one on ebay, unbelievably it went for £750!!!
 3.
Been offered a bass for £350 ono, needs strings, bow rehair and setup. It has a case but no pickup. Its in pretty good nick. Would this be a good investment etc, I want to play blues/jazz but with arco occasionally too. It would be my first db, so i could use some tips on what to look for too please guys! r
i bought one of these last year for £400! its a great bass, i've often thought about an upgrade and then realised unless I'm going to get an old bass there is no point, it sounds great! The action on mines high for jazz playing which can be annoying but i want it high so i can practice arco. I don't think it'l be a good investment in terms of it'l go up in value but you will definitely get your moneys worth out of it. I went with some silver splappers on it and they sound and feel brilliant
 4.
!! Bit harsh, eh? No music from the Midlands? Not like that for me when I hung about The Mitre in Stourbridge, or JB's in Dudley, or even the Barrel Organ and Edwards No. 8 Bar in Brum.... It's been a few years now, but cracking times, with top people and bostin' music. Some of the nicest, most generous people I've met have been from Liverpool... I'm not up on the music scene there, but I've heard a rumour one or two bands from the town scraped the top 100?
tbf to include birmingham was a bit harsh as i've never lived there so wouldn't know the little bars and venues. It just doesn't seem as musically alive as london, although it could be very underground And yes Liverpool has a great amount of history in music. But, it still came across as the worst place i've ever visited. Especially in you get lost around the back streets. I've never seen so many boarded up windows on houses!
 5. ahh yes i forgot about sherwood forest! that is great tbf (when your 5 years old) Yes the bass gallery is where sei basses are made, and nope its in Camden. Denmark street is just off oxford street (the fashion shops for the wife ) and has still got 5 or 6 really good music stores, 2 or 3 of which sell the odd bass
 6.
I know. I'm from Liverpool and I live in Nottingham... I went to Guildford once... can't say I remember much about it.
sorry big john, i was born in nottingham and its ok if you want to get a nice Paul Smith Suit but liverpool.... and yes Guildford is for old people, if it wasn't for the ACM being here there isn't a chance in hell i would choose to live here! Because of ACM it has got a great music scene though. Nearly every pub has live music and there are jam nights every night somewhere.
 7. sorry if I'm getting this wrong. Does it take out the frequencies that make the cones move? And we can't hear these frequencies anyway? Slightly confused by the whole thing but the video makes it look very useful although i think an explanation for tech dummies such as myself would be good.
 8.
Know it well then do you?
went once for the day... never again!
 9.
be sure to pay Mark a visit a vist at Bass Direct in Warwick. Be ready to go home a grand or two out of pocket and someting to add to the herd though. There is nothing nice or musical in Nottingham, stay away.
the midlands in general.... Birmingham, nottingham, Derby, Leicester... All very unmusical and very boring. Oh and Liverpool, scum capital of the UK

 11.
are those Tokais that good then.. never played one... Japanese i take it? heard lots about them
yhp, i've tried lots of passive jazz basses since. Fender Custom shop's, early and late 70's originals, US standards, US RI and none were even close to the feel or sound that the tokai produces. I think mine was made somewhere between 84 and 86 and i got it off here for £350!
 12. i owned a american deluxe fender jazz 5 and i own a Overwater jazz 5. The overwater is only worse because its not as good looking (the fender had a transparent crimson red finish and a maple neck ) At everything else it is far better and that makes it better for gigs as it doesnt give me anything to worry about. My favourite jazz bass is my tokai though, as it does an amazing set of sounds and looks very cool. Havn't found any jazz bass i like more since i bought it.
 13.
Just so we're clear, here's the plan for dealing with this bloke:

OP lures him to a deserted warehouse
Politely informs him OP is "no longer in the band"
Chrismuzz slaps him with his cock
Spike kicks him in the nuts
Steve injects his bell-end with mercury
Ed S knocks him out
I shoot him in the face
Jake eats his liver
Followed by live music and disco till 1am. Cash bar, free parking. Tickets £10 in advance (£12 on the door) .
student discount?
Possibly. I also had to edit for a couple of other suggestions. We'll probably have to improvise the pussy thing.
i love the image of a group of bass players trying to pickup girls!... errrr i mean cats
 14. i personally think its great, as it offers a new challenge to us performers. I know an incredible drummer who practices as much Gaga and britney as he does jazz fusion and latin because for him its more of a challenge to replicate a drum beat thats been chopped up, quantised ect. I do also believe the reason for it being so present in todays chart "music" is because it goes down well at clubs and what goes down well at clubs often are higher in the charts these days.
 15. the rhythm section of any rock band HAS to be killer if its going to work. When i play AC/DC (one of my favourite bands) the trick is to keep it as simple as possible on the bass. Its all about the guitarists showing off.
 16.
Well now, I'll have three........
does that get you three women? obviously depending on the dealership the women get worse. Personally i think I'm going to buy my "select" fender from Italy
 17. who? the people who fixed your shattered spine
 18. I'd be up for this. If you could PM me some details as im off to a rehearsal right now thatd be great. Ps, do we get to use your 63 fender?
 19. is this mars bar now classified as vintage? i hope its got that 'road worn' look
 20.
The old sound control crew in Leicester were one of those 'stiff till you know em' crowds. Nice eventually though lol. utterly vile.
that was my local, i used to go every week for bass lessons but because of the train times i was always there 30 minutes early so used to just chat with them. I can see why working in a music store can be a pain though. Expensive equipment yet little kids run around like its the disney store, not a good idea. The sound control in MK was especially bad for that!
 21. been fancying coming for a while, will have to see what rehearsal times are like on thursday
 22.
I find that with a song like Blue Bossa, which has two ii-V-I movements, not a lot of memorization is really required to move through them. Once you're oriented to the ii-V-I and you've found different ways to play it, that group of chords (and the other group as well) kind of become one thing. Like lots of people, I'm sure, I've found that seeing the chords as related groups, and not as single chords, works best.
blue bossa is just two keys though which makes it far easier than most tunes i've come across. A technique im trying to help learn the tunes is to play a solo bass style arrangement of playing the melody on top of the chord tones. Its not a quick process for me yet as im having to think about positioning a lot, and also you will miss some of the chords out but as previously stated you can sometimes piece together a jazz tune by listening out for common progressions
 23. PMT took over a few of the sound control's who's staff i found were always a bit stiff until you get to know them
 24.
If the cab has wheels on it and you have a towbar........
then you need a chuaffeur and some ski goggles
