1. bigger headphones. bigger bass rig. see how they like. not the answer, but.... ohhh it would feel good. joking aside....i think.. even bigger headphones. even bigger bass rig.....in stereo.
2. Been reading this with intrest, looks like you have all been down the try and test road, while I have not tried most of what you have suggested I have tried a number of jazz pick ups and still have them all. I have a number of jazz basses which all have there own sound, so have tried swapping and changing in them all, what I found was that a pickup that sounds great in one bass sounds pants in another, so I'm taking it that the pick up can only reproduce what the bass is giving it, you know when your in a shop and you try a few jazz basses without plugging them in, one might feel dead and one might feel snappy and alive, that with your own playing tec will as you know have an effect on what the pickup will reproduce, So it's a suck it and see thing you might have to try a few to get what your after, What I ended up with is this, the best jazz I have is a jap fotoflame 62 reissue When I got it I thought the pups were weak (Which were not its original pickups) , tried about 5 pairs, nothing over £50, the best one I found for the rear was one from a highway one I had, which sounded far better than in the highway one, (no matter what I put in the highway one it never sounded any good) in the fotoflame it's alive and sort of gritty biting sound. the neck pick up I have not a clue what it is, but matched with bridge one it adds warmth to the sound, and mellow when soloed, I use this bass a lot now it does what I want it to do, but would like to try some of the top end ones y'all have mentioned just to see, interesting,
3. i have had this in the past, very annoying, about a 2 years ago i sold my wal 6 string to a guy who said he has always wanted one, dream bass, never get rid, loves it bla bla...... and the big one , " if ever i sell it i will contact you first" so, seems a nice bloke. 3 weeks later or so, i spotted it on ebay and he sold it for nearly 600 more then he paid for it, The Ba$!@£D SO.. now if i sell anything, i sell it for what its worth, market value, no money knocked off, no mates rates, nothing extra, that way everyone is happy
4.
Nothing but a noisy Shed Builder.
, my chuckle muscle wont stop dancing al tell dennis you said that,,,, expect footsteps and loud knocking oh... and you will know its him cus the footsteps will be in time and the knocking will be tighter than a gnats chuff. sounds like a great gig, would deffo go if i was closer. so we will be expecting a photo of you with vic then ? do it
5. funny how you find things, i came to know VW playing from bela fleck, not because i was i was looking for bass but because i was into banjo, and bela for me was god, i have i think everything he has recorded, the guy really is pushing boundaries, he is to me on banjo what luc ponty is on violin. So inspired by him and as a crap banjo player i did a few of my own in that style, ( not half as good tho ) so while im listening to early bela, vw playing was seeping through, im not really into singers, lyrics i just think is poetry added to music, not really needed and can sometimes just get in the way, or take up the melody of a now redundant instrument that would have done it, so bela for me was perfect, no lyrics just great playing and great underpinning by all the band. sorry, im getting there,,, i wont be long so vw playing on all them early recordings with bela was lock tight underpinning, with great taste, and had the skills to let go with something clever that would catch your ear when freedom was passed his way, him and bela just bounced off each other.... perfect breading for boundry breaking talent. I think his use of melody comes from bela. i can see if you just jump into vw solo cds you mght think WTF, but take time to catch early bela and to me it all seems to make so much more sence. if that all makes sence. JMO. but he is a great user of melody, anyones will do if it fits, good on him. for eg. is that jaco's continuum you can hear at 4:37 of this ( link below) well at least he is not afraid to use it. but again dont just skip to 4:37, listen to it in its entirety and then it makes sence, a nice ending to the solo he was just doing,( not a great solo tbf abit out in places,, but you can still hear what was on his mind) Yea.... i like vw playing. by the way casey Driessen's playing on this is just fantastic.as is jeff coffins sax playing, nice feel, ( but seems there is a pont where he wanted bela to go into another gear and looked at him about 6:50 to do so, and bela just looked bored, and stayed there, shame, caseys playing deserved that, common bela, lets hear them gears ! !) 8.
Are you talking about a Stingray too? I'm not a big fan of their battery compartment. Yes, it's fast and easy access... but I see how it can misbehave. Mine did ages ago (it's a 2002, so it's old but not THAT old) but all I had to do was clean the contacts a bit (abrassive) and bend them upwards so that they pressed more against the battery... and so far so good... but I do think sometimes about replacing it with a snap and a simple lid.
Sorry yes the stingray, i think when they designed that bit, the bloke at the back who use to work for K-Tel, jml or Ronco said " iv got an idea". Some like it some dont, i just think it trouble waiting to happen, Just my thoughts on it,
9.
This is the worst one that I own. This one
Ha ha. I used to have that on cassette!
your showing your age now funny enough, i have some great stuff on tape i still have to play cus i cant get it on CD, like james brown, "take a look at those cakes" i love bootsey on that, dont think it was released on cd, shame
10. I just found this on my ever quest for obscure funk stuff. (Below).. and thought... wow thats tacky. "1 Funky Album" so prompted the post. there has to be loads of really bad LP covers... Whats the worst you have seen, post a pic Lets have em...
11. Same here also, only it was not just the battery dying, the copper contacts at the bottom of the "toys r us" plastic battery case had corroded and the power wires to the main board, so i got a new one, and on that one the clasp cracked and snapped off so having had enough i ripped that out and got an old chrome cover and a battery snap, was fine from then on, i still have them somewhere.

18.
Old story about saxophonist Charlie Parker which i recall reading ... Apparently he took a bandmate out for a drink. They went to a bar where a band was playing; Parker saying to the other guy 'You gotta see this band, I've heard them a few times now'. In the bar, Parker's friend says 'Charlie, they are awful'. Parker says, 'Yes, but they've really improved, you should have seen them last week, they keep getting better'.
Thats great...... the whole thing in a nutshell
19. Alot of snobbery goin on, even with the thought that players who play single note lines are pants. shame on yall... The bottom line is this,....... as players you, me, them, everybody, everybody here gets better, its easy to see/hear the simplicity of players/ bass lines and say "they are not very good". think about for a min ! ! ! compared to who? yep, your getting there.......yourself.... Your opinion as you was starting out did you not learn those lines also ? inspired ? so made up when you had learnt them ? those simlpe lines are what helped you, me, them, everybody.... EVERYBODY......want to play. And they sound great. could you imagine........ Dakota.. phonics everybody want to rule the world...tears 4 fears somewhere in my heart... aztec camera New sensation... With out them ? great to play aren't they ? and i would trade places with any of them if i could of had gigs like them.
20. tried to lower the the original £45 to 40 but it wont change, but it is 40

22. Solo Duo ..........Hk Actor Tops 3 to 5.................Hk Actor Tops.+ 2 HK bins 5 to 13...............Hk Actor Tops.+ 4 HK bins I do PA Hire and For FOH i have been using this combination for years and its been fine. Its the older actor with an amp in every cab, ( as opposed to the Dx with two passive bins) im sure the speakers are B&C and I never changed a speaker. i have had 1 amp in the top blow once due to a sax players F&*^ed up clip on mic pac, other than that, im happy with it I use this set up for my 13 piece funk band it handles it with no fuss and sounds good, my main reasion for not changing is mainly i cant get a bigger rig around with all the other stuff in my little vw T4 van, if i could i think i would go down the DB route as some of you have, but i cant afford it. i first heard DB watching Paul Carrack at buxton, it sounded great
23. so .... from all that i get. If you want a good slap tone, any good bass well set up, round wound strings, clear amp, the rest is down to your technique. If you want to sound like someone else, you need a technique similar to who you are imitating and gear thats as close as, ( some gear closer that others) Not the OP question answered next....but i like the thought...... when i play, i want people to hear me, not marcus, mark, or Vic, but if someone came at the end of the gig and said i sounded like bootsey, i wouldn't be too pissed Just be individual and use the gear you have, wack fu*& out of it with attitude and people will notice you..... THIS is the "its all in you" approach
24. I got this one today in reply to a bass i have on gumtree, his first contact was a tx to my phone number... "do you still have the musical instruments? pls email me at amykane2200 (at) gmail.com" i replyed knowing it was a con with, "Yea which ones i have a nord stage keyboard and guitars and amps " Even tho i had not these items on gumtree ! Reply was....... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for your response,i want all please. I want you to consider this a deal as i am willing to pay your full asking price! i actually want to buy them for a family member who is urgently in need of them, i have checked through your posting and i'm fully satisfied with them.
