1. I do my own PAT testing on all of our stuff. As for public liability "better safe than sorry" Its a no brainer in this day n age of " where there's blame there's a clame" train of thought. When we load gear in everyone knows to keep all the gear together, no stray flightcases/boxes/stands. I think its just good practice to get all the band on this. and if you dont ... you should ! or its just a matter of time. How many bands have you been in that when band members arrive they just leave gear in any space where they can and go wandering off ?... madness. If that guy that is so Pi@@ed he cant even walk falls over any of your stuff...... you can bet your life it will be YOUR fault ! ! ! ( even if he did not fall over it)
 2.
Just the fact that people film absolutely everything winds me up. They spend so much time dicking about with their phones they miss most of the gig! Take the memory & experience with you not a shaky bit of vid & gargling sh*tty distorted sound. Boils my piss! & relax, calming cup of tea, Norm? Ta, that would be lovely.
im with norm, very anoying if you want to watch the gig through a phone whats the point of you coming ? go home and watch youtube and stop anoying everyone. when they walk right up to the stage and shove a phone in your face, yea very anoying... stop it and just enjoy the gig
 3.
They used to be popular!
yea, so did jim'll fix it badges and the BBC.....
 4. Hi geek i got a strat from china, just to try, see att cost about £50. had import and handling to pay about £35 all in all for the money.....eeeerrrr... its playable ! paint job...............bad, all orange peel effect pickups.................weak but work, but the humbucker is good tuners................... bagger than a tent in a storm, rubbish neck..................... great to play, i like it body..................... i think is laminated, very light frets, ....................verygood, can get low action once set up fret edges............ very good neck lacquer........... good neck wood construction...very good decals..................... very good Fen$£ stamped parts..... very good, except tuners dotts on neck................. out of place body routing................... bit rough. tuning with trem used...... crap tuning trem locked...........ok nut....................................junk soft plastic bridge............................... very good knobs............................... very cheap sound, .............................not bad have used it on some tracks. the humbucker kick ass my thoughts... looks nice, but would not fool a player who knows about strats. change the pickups might help and might be good enough to take out to the dodgy gigs you would not want to take your £1k pluss strat. But ....... i think your cash is better off buying a real fender Squire, its far better made, my squire strat is far better in every way. 5. "Hello kind seller, i want to bye your bass to me, it is what i am perfect looking for for my son. What is your full asking price to me, i pay this price so you know i am serious for it. i want this to be sent right away to my son so i can send a collector. i can not collect this item i work off shore on an oil rig so i order from there. so you know i am real i am prepaired to pay rightaway by paypal only when you have the money in your account you can send the item to my son for his birthday he is looking forward to getting this item. give me your paypal address and i pay today. take this item off ebay now and i will take it" Bla Bla Bla.... Yea right, how does the paypall scam work ? if it shows up in your account ? can they call it back once sent ? i had a few when i have sold basses on ebay, but gumtree seems really bad
 6. Welcome to the music industry, alot of that goes on, its not personal its just music business, some times decisions are made for the better even tho we at the receiving end of them cant see it. painfull i know. with all you have learnt, you could start your own thing and do the stuff you want to do and have the control just get the right guys to do the job you want and dont feel sorry for anyone, they are right for the job or they wrong, no middle ground. but as Jk says..........
Personally, I'd chalk it down to experience and move on. In the immortal words of Les McQueen, it's a sh*t business...
7. Just reading this makes one realise the effort that goes into being in "Just a band" Alot of dedication there guys well done all, keep the faith alive. The time and effort in my part of the band ? which is a13 piece funk band is just mad thinking about it. I write the songs I record all the parts of the songs bass, drums, keys, guitar, for the band to use as a start point. I org all the format parts to be sent out, ( except the brass parts, our trombone player scores all them out) I org the practices i org the studio time i Help get the gigs i own the PA i set the pa up with help i play bass, backing vocals, bits of guitar, i own the .com and .co.uk addresses, which is a pain in its self. Now all that sounds very controlling, but if i dont do it, it wont get done and the machine stops and the dream fades. there are other people that help also, the guys all make an effort to learn their parts, be there, and on time, and are willing to go along and have faith with the ideas i have, and come out with great ideas to help on the song process where i have messed up in parts. All that effort and i dont regret any ot it, what a great bunch of guys to work with, All in all, ...... the right band, with the right guys. I love it.
 8. I changed mine in mid 2012 cus i was asked too... it was the dancing girl with the tattoos so i changed it to the dancing chickin, i like the funky chickin better anyway, its exactly how i dad dance even without beer. But on a more meaningfull level.... I like to think Its also a bit of a nod to rufus thomas, as that was the song he defied all the police and organizers requests of trying too keep all the predominantly black audience in their seats. If ever there was an autobiography that should of been written, Go Go Go rufus. gotta love them boots. https://www.youtube....h?v=8lCI63H1neY
 9.
I heard the horse and cart's making a comeback too
if my car gets any more expensive to run i might just be looking at one of them,
 10.
I keep meaning to get some DT770s for home. Maybe next month
Hi Charic, Never tried the Dt770, but they seem high on peoples list, i will look into trying a pair, be interesting to try against the superlux just too see.
 11.
DT100s are tracking headphones. They are designed to give you a useable working sound with the minimum of spill, so that you can record your part(s) while hearing everything clearly but not necessarily accurately. I wouldn't even begin to think about using them for mixing on.
hi BigRed, when i play the track in the head phones for our sax player to play/record along too, he just goes "uuuggghhh sounds rubbish" he prefs the akg's, ..... now, this might not be the sound ! he might be refering to the track but yea get your point,
but more importantly, I'm very familiar with them and have a good idea of how my mixes translate when using them. But that's all down to time spent with them fixed to my noggin, rather than the manufacturer's specifications. If I bought another pair, I'd be tempted to save up for some Sennheiser HD 600. Expensive at around £230-250, but well regarded on just about every music forum I've read. All that said, I'm doing an increasing amount of mixing on Apple iPhone earbuds. I use them for probably 70% of my mixing time, then switch to monitors and the AKG cans once everything is sounding "ok" on the 'buds. It's a bit like the NS10 philosophy... if you can get something sounding good on earbuds, then it'll probably translate well to other sources. Works for me anyway
hi skol, yep my point exactly about having to re Eq your head when you change to something else after so long, its like having to learn again, the superlux were not that far apart from my akg's so was almost like the next step rather than a leap, i can deal with small changes,
 12. just wondering what everyones take/pref is on headphones, I do most of my mixing at night and my studio is in the spare bedroom, so thats headphones time for me, i have a few pairs of headphones, here is what i have found some people like beyer Dt100, and i have some cus people like them and i wanted to try them, i have beyer dt 100 and beyer dt100 canford compensated, http://www.canford.c...A-without-cable now i personally can't stand them i think they sound god awfull, bass seems really bad in them, i have some cheap AKG K44 had them years, and i seem to hear things better in them, so... when i mix a track for cd using them i know what the bass will sound like on a cd and i know what the cymbals will sound like and everything inbetween on a car cd player and an MP3. If i use the Beyers my mix will be all over the place on cd because i cant hear bass very well in them so will add more in the headphones to get what i am use too etc, result is a bass heavy mix on cd and mp3. so conclusion is, its just what you get use to, if i keep changing i have to re eq my head, if that makes sense?. Now.. on saying all that, i was given a pair to try, tried them and found the difference was not so radical from my akg as my akg's were against the bayers, in fact they sort of made things clearer across the whole range, tho bass was a bit more heavy, when i then tried them against the beyers the beyers sounded like dull mud. i liked them, imagine my surprise when i was told i can get them from thomanns for ............. £16.35p WHAT ? Get the fffffront door !........ I loose more than that running for the buss. so i ordered 2 pairs of " Superlux HD681" and 1 of the more flat range HD681B" https://www.thomann....erlux_hd681.htm for the price these are very well constructed and more cumfy than my akgs what a surrprise, well worth a try for the money, ( if you order a pair, let us know what you think?) is anyone else using these ? your thoughts ? also what else is out there ?
 13. Hi Barkin, yea good shout, julian has been with DTTB since about the "cellar funk" cd about 2004 (before him it was Paul Turner from Jamiroquai and Brother strut, on "spread the word" and "crazy vibes...") my funk band use to do "smile to shine" and " should've been you" great tracks to play and a good lesson in control from Julian on them tracks, my fave one is is a track called " Electric Vibes" on the supercharged cd with the great roy ayers freakin out on it. tried to find that on youtube but could only find some not very good remixes of it ( dont go there !) so here is funkin around https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWry1clVRUA

 17.
I don't doubt you and others are 100% sure about this. So I don't buy the idea that moving the pole pieces helps particularly -
Hi drT, Trust me it works, if you want too check without doing it, then .... plug your bass in, hit the G and slightly press the bottom of the pickup down. you will notice the loudness drop so what you are doing by dropping the middle poles is lowering the loudness of the A and D while the G stays the same then when you rase the pickup the all the A,D, and G will rise in volume the same, or rase on just the G side to make the G louder and hay if it does not work you can always put them back. worth a try this is why maybe Leo fender when he went on to do the G&L basses, made basses with height adjustable pole pieces? and them MFD pickups are the mutz nutz. no issues there In fact he stated he did this to alter the individual output of each string, and it works here ya go... G&L pickup http://www.glguitars...MFD-pickups.asp wal bass players have always had this luxury since the 70s, and what a great idea it was. and even 60s cheap guitar pickups had them height adjustable screws, come to think of it, i remember my first bass a Gibson Sg copy having adjustable poles, wish i still had that
 18. me too, he is writing loads of great catchy stuff and more to the point very well played, and as you know some great bass players involved,
 19. Been watching Brian Culbertsons blogs on you tube from building his studio to getting the funk down, really enjoyed them, seems to be the way to promo your band and i like it, noticed "Brother strut" are doing the same sort of thing, i think it makes the tracks more real when you can see the effort that goes into it all, and the gear they are using, which surprised me a bit. anyone been watching these ? Also is anyone promoing their band using this method, as im now looking into that for the band im in, Im new to all this but yea i like it and it seems the way to go. here is Brian's first one, https://www.youtube....h?v=QxCNlZ5HKrE
No one likes slap riffs anymore
Overhere, no here, yes me, at the back... i do.... sorry Yea i like slap, not very good at it, but enough to get by, have a few songs in my band thats just slap, nothing hard but just grooves. i like both kinds, out and out in ya face mark king and when used now and again in parts if there seems to be a place for it then why not its just another form of expression, was watching brian culbertsons vids on you tube he has some great players that are tastfull with it.
Is this a technique anyone can aquire as long as I put in the hours? If yes, where should I start.
Yep its an hours input thang, stay with it, some great youtube suggestions already posted here, find another bass player in your area you can learn from, that will bring you on, i got this for one of the guys i was teaching, he thought it was very helpfull as i could go through it with him. he got really good at it. Again hours input LICK LIBRARY Bass Legends MARK KING http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LICK-LIBRARY-Bass-Legends-MARK-KING-Level-42-FUNK-SLAP-LESSON-TUTOR-Guitar-DVD-/180281047901?hash=item29f9967b5d:g:q48AAOSwPhdVBdmQ#ht_1706wt_738
 21.
There's a lenghty thread on TalkBass discussing the aural enhancer: https://www.talkbass...-bypass.643201/
That was really interesting, cheers
Does the super redhead deserve all the praise it gets?
And more, its without doubt one of, if not the best 2x10 combo ever made, and for very good reason, as a tight well compact, awsome sounding, more features unit it still is for me the best ever made, but there is another huge reason why it is so desirable !! I know guys that have spent loads on studio pre amp's, and one of the best bass preamps to record with is right there in the swr super redhead, Preamp out into the desk is killer, Dont forget the whole concept for the redhead was to design the ultimate studio bass tool, and have that same quality at a small gig, alot of thought went into that preamp. If interested here is the PDF manual that may explain it better.. http://support.swram...rredhead_om.PDF if you want that marcus miller tone and tightness, if you want valve preamp warmth, or even if you want sub dub DEEEEP bass its right there built in with some very usable filters that you wont get on ANYTHING to help, like the "Aural Enhancer" that will get your low end to smooth out and sit or punch where you want it in the mix, what i get on a G&L L2000 is not what i get on a jazz using that, i think this really depends what pickups you are using ?? Also another cheeky little under used asset is the "Transparency", pull the treble pot out and it seems to take away alot of the harsh clickyness at the extreme hi end on the G&L, not quite the same as tuning the treble down, i have two red heads 1 is in the studio and has not moved from there, another i use for small to med gigs, and for outdoor gigs i use a sm500 pro and the golly 6x10, have been using them for alot of years and have no intension of replacing them with anything in the future, Would like them to make a come back, a shame as you say they seem to be dying off, If anyone is going to the NW bass bash on the 12th of feb ( see events) i will be taking some swr gear for yall to try. it may convert you..... forrreeeeverrrrrr.... ( or you just might think its crap )
 22. Thats cool, ahh yes paul carr played on the get organized cd, well sorry, some of the tracks on the get organized cd were taken from the BBC sessions, (prob to fill the cd out?) so just a quick check of the cd confirms yes he played on 4 tracks of the bbc sessions that made it to the album, line up about then was very fluid as i think james's brother david was also playing then, and also bass players, as well Alan Crockford at that time gary crockett was also about, infact credited to helping writing, like "tell it like it is" for the BBC sessions and two other bass players Robert Bedwell, and the very good Paul Francis ( worth checking out). "It was a great time for playing groovy/funky lines back then"...still is
 23. Hi lowdown, big fan of JTQ been to see them about 10 times have about 18 cds, also have B.N.Heavies but like Jtq pref their early stuff when it was rawer. i was in a Acid Jazz band about that time very early 90s "wait a minute" then was my bible we use to do about 7 tracks of that album, such a great Album that is. Went to watch them at the Manchester Academy a few times had great nights there, 93 with "k-creative" backing ( remember them?) was there also in 98, so was made up when they released " whole lot of love live 98 at the Academy". i think i pref them with Gary on bass it had more drive then, If you liked that rawnes in ya funk you might want to check out garys other bands, he has done some top draw projects that really is worth a mention. https://www.youtube....31901FA676EB88C https://www.youtube....h?v=g6lqQHVlsws Also "Smoove and Turrell" are doing the rounds at the mo and well worth a peek. https://www.youtube....h?v=J-3Pe1eob5A Im still hoping New Cool Collective will come over to the uk, my cash is waiting, cant wait for that... https://www.youtube....h?v=cwybOlUNB9g
