1. Smaz, hope you found someone. and enjoyed the show. who ever got that ticket im sure wont have been sorry. For anyone else thinking of catching them........ Brother strut are one of the best bands i have seen live for lots of reasons, they are tighter than gnats chuff. All the band members are top draw players/singers they are fantastic guys, talking to them, photos, info, nothing is too much trouble for them all their Audience participation is refreshing to see they really do make you feel part of the show. the music is well crafted and catchy as f$£&. as a package they are hard to beat. They are on a mini tour and Steve has put all his dosh into this and so is really trying to make it pay, it works or it really is bust for him, Steve.. "fortune does favour the brave" . and i love the faith he has in it, inspiring so supporting them is well worth it if you can catch them now getting to the end of the tour, just go. You will be converted, and dont forget your dancing shoes. If you really want to get jumped on, join bassesbyleo.com say something even slightly out and feel the wrath of mein fuhrer ( can't name him) who feels it's his duty to pass his comment on every post that goes on there, one very annoying person
7. hi Alix, yea spotted you with your hair tied back good gig enjoyed it, well done, the band played very well, best one for me was the ska type track with all the brass riffs in ( about half way through). your dancer at the end was cooool. all was great till i got the parking bill £13.50 for just over 4 hours ( NCP you ROBBING F%*&^%S,, Ronald Hobson i hope your Yacht sinks) anyway all worth it
8.
Years ago, Id have agreed. But having done it, and seen that actually, it does, I'm afraid I cannot any agree any longer. Weve had so many messages from folk who have gone on to buy Kates entire back catalogue off the back of one of our gigs.
Agreed, esp if you are doing stuff by a relatively unknown artist, as said we do alot of Lloyd jones tracks in the set and people always ask who did this or that, also even people who like blues i find are time locked in the uk and are not really upto date with whats going on now so its like education, we try to give them what happening now, not 40 years ago. and thats another area of tribute acts which is good, people who may have liked the artist 30 years ago might go and watch a trib band and hay presto are surprised to find that maybe the artist is still going and still pumping out great stuff, maybe enough for the punters to go home check out and order the new cd based on your act.
9. Haggis horns, hot diamond aces sheffield o2 did anyone go friday ? had a great night both bands were very good. Hot aces were support and i thought they were on it, for me they had a bit more to them, there was a more diverse spectrem of styles and i thought their sax man was just killer with intresting solos. but for tightness and just nailing grooves this is haggis's bag the bass and drummer are just rock solid. A great night had by all well done haggis and aces one for your funk book guys and gals. Dont forget ya dancin shooes Aces https://www.youtube....h?v=SwUYklE7tcc Haggis https://www.youtube....h?v=dggVDk1RwQE
10. you could go back and beat him to it by anouncing you have raffle tickets with a prize in aid to meet your normal fee,
11.
When others are making a buck not just playing songs, but using the whole image and likeness is is not right that there should be some kind of permission or licencing agreement?
I think even playing the songs in a trib band is a gray area, esp if selling cds and using the songs on your site as promo. Im in a big blues band that do modern blues that do a fair number of Lloyd jones tracks, a sort of half tribute to him, ..Now I think its his own fault cus the songs are just so dam catchy , we did a demo with about 5 of his tracks and found we had a chance to play them on radio merseysideliverpool so i contacted lloyd jones and asked if it would be ok, and sent him a copy of the cd, he said thanks for asking him, he thought it was great that a band in the uk was promoting his stuff and go ahead. what an out and out nice guy. http://www.lloydjone...om/schedule.htm i think everyone is so accessable now with the internet its nothing just to ask.
12. yes 3 years old, he said he would not hand over a penny, dont know the outcome, im sure most tribute acts would want to get their web address as close as to the name. but yea a bit too close is that one
13. I have just been reading this about meat loaf taking Dean Torkington from Burnley to court for basicly impersonating him calling him an online imposter, and wanted $100,000.00 from him, the court in the usa awarded meatloaf $25,000.00 + $4,769 in costs and Dean has to hand over his site and todrop registration and control of the website and transfer it to meatloaf could this open the doors to other artists ? (edited) how close is too close ? when choosing a web address http://www.dailymail...e-imposter.html http://www.dailymail...l#ixzz46SR5o3hv

16. "Tales of topographic oceans - Yes.....utter sh*t besides about 10 minutes (should have been a single!) " yep, i remember when it came out, even the press called it "wishy washy tales of the deep" i was big yes fan then and i could not listen to it, im not even sure you would get a single from it all ! The Swing of Delight by Santana is one of my fave Doubles with the gifted Dave Margen on bass, sound of his bass on this is great i tried for ages to get that sound, https://www.youtube....0-6Y-OECTLc_QYI Welcome to the Pleasure dome by Frankie.... worked great, even with the bit of padding victor wooten yin yang is ace
17. Nothing wrong with playing the wrong notes, just play them in the right order. If its agreed on at the begining its a cover then you should do your best to get it right, have you ever worked hard at a bass line then at a practice found the drummer is jamming all over your hard work. Valerie by the zutons is a great example of this sounds easy but the bass drum is right under and following the bass line, most drummers blagg this, does not fit does it ?, and very anoying. songs are like a jigsaw if one piece is played wrong things dont fit right. If agreed tho bit of interpretation in songs are a great way to let songs evolve into areas they would not normaly go, Some songs tho i feel your hands are tied, soul music is a good example of this, most of those lines are so ingrained into people and most of them hold the melody. play anything other and they will know you are blaggin it, unless again its a clear interpretation by all the band

19. Hi Blue only because you said this.. "This thread is not posted to initiate a " troll fest" just an exchange of opinion and thought." ok The real answer ? for our future ( i think) The whole problem with the question lies in ourselfs in the thought that we are just bass players. we are not, we are a musicians, the answer to it is simply ... dont see yourself as a bass player. brach out, you know music, take it a step further. try other things, we spend so much time trying to be the best bass player, and i know you guys as i do spend so much time trying to get to that. divide it. i have always said to the people i have taught, " learn to write songs no matter how basic you think it is, just get it down as soon as and move on" For the most, Pub gigging is ok for a bit of a buz and some cash toward your beer fund, but as you get older that will wear off and you will be left with a question " what was it all for" and as you get into your 50s and 60s you will say to your self " all that knowledge i wish i had used it for other things as well" and at that exact moment ..... you will realise in the 20 or 30 or so years of gigging you hove NO product to tout for when you are older... it could be said apart from the great times of course and the people who have enjoyed your playing,,,, what a wast of a life time of knowledge, cus no one will ever hear it when you are gone, done, thanks for the beer. ...... Product is your key to the future, with out it, we as bass players are just bass players with out a future. at least have a go, you might thank me one day ! ! ! sorry if this offends anyone, its not ment too, but more a way too inspire us bass players to push ourselfs in other areas, the future... maybe
20.
We had a gig where decent looking female wanted to sing. We refused, so she just grabbed a radio mic off the stand and put it where the above mic would have been intended. She then challenged us to get it back.
hahaha.. you could of used my mates mic as a shoe horn to get it back im sorry.. im sorry i said im sorry
21. I like the cme, pref the uf8 with weighted keys, it has record ff rw and play buttons you can control you daw with tho not sure with logic. worth a quick look maybe sos review http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug05/articles/cmeuf8.htm youtube,,, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqJmDEWIFA8
22. Ashes to Ashes, i still have the single with the pic sleeve from when it came out. always loved that bass line but the best version of all of them i have heard is this one, you can see it on daves face at 4:43 he is just loving it, quite right as well the band are all on it... with the perfect iconic stingray sound. Enjoy.. https://www.youtube....h?v=lNqo0kIR-TU
23. MusicMan 65w twin chan valve head ... or was it a 75w... anyway , nice tone and punchy, just not loud enough. the only other thing i have really liked is the SWR super Redhead 350 ( older one)
24. Its easy. i would have said "If you want to play, just get a band together " thats what we did. Years ago a friend had a rock band and used a dildo with a thin condensor mic in it. when ever anyone guested he would make them use that, great prop for your niknak box next time give him that and start the song ...Have i told you lately that i love you
25.
Another One Bites the Dust, surely?
Yep #1 ,,,, and dont call me surely
