1. I have recently got some tools from Ben at Crimson Guitars after meeting him a couple of years ago at a craft/wood fair including the levelling files, crowing files and end dressing files as well as a fret rocker, fret rubbers and a notched straightedge and have been shocked by what I have found out about some of the instruments in my house! Some of my basses will be getting a treatment in the very near future. I don't think my dad would forgive me if I had a crack at the high frets on his Epi Sheraton 2 All of the tools are beautiful and very well made. His videos are great as well! I can't wait for the bass nut files to be released from these guys
2. The set available from Stew Mac have been good for me. I only have the J set so can only vouch for those. Apparently the P pickup template is fine for routing if there will be a pickup as it is a little 'loose' around the pickup, but not for an 'un-hidden' pickup
3. Hi guys, I posted in here before asking for some pickup dimensions for a university project and got great responses so hoping for the same again. The dimension I am looking for is the distance from the front edge of the nut to the front edge (edge closest to end of fretboard) of the P pickup on a Fender style Precision Bass. I have trawled through various threads on a few forums and haven't gotten a definitive answer to this as many people seem to measure to the center of the polepieces, which considering that pickup dimensions do differ slightly does not allow me to calculate the position accurately. If somebody could measure this and let me know the model of bass they have taken the measurement from I would be very, very grateful. I have read that the dimension changes on instruments which feature a J pickup at the bridge depending on whether the J pickup is in a 60s or 70s position... I have no idea if there is any truth in this but would be interested to hear what you guys have to think. Thanks in advance!
4. I got a Flightcase Warehouse case for my CTM 300 and it adds enough width (and probably weight) that I cannot lift the amp by myself with it cassed up. The increasef size seems to be the problem though
5. The PPB is now sold as well so these little boxes of joy are now with new owners!
6. Sold a pedal to Rob, very quick payment and good communication
7. According to Mark Gooday, RRP in the UK is £629 inc VAT
8. If it isn't a vintage instrument, I would so have a go! By the sounds of it, you have experience with several of the steps involved, so this should be pretty straightforward for you. Would you mind explaining what you mean by 'leaving finish fillet on sides of frets' in step 6 though please? I will be interested to see how it all progresses Good luck!
9.
Looks interesting... sounds like a type of lube
You mean string lube right?
10.
Turns out that Retroglide is also the name of a Level 42 album......
Indeed it is... Mark Gooday (owner of Ashdown) is a friend of Mark King's and has full permission to use the name, although it is not linked to Mark King or Level 42 in any way
11. I just pulled the trigger on one of these little beasts! Now the horrible wait for it to arrive
12. Love my CTM-300 to pieces! Such a wonderfully round and warm sound which can really get filthy when pushed right. Really must try it through my ABM810 and ABM610 at the same time, but lacking a Jack-to-Speakon cable at the moment! Would love to try the CTM-100 to see how the power tubes break up at a lower volume. If only I could pull some of the tubes in the CTM-300 to drop it down like some Marshall users used to do...
13. BUMP - £80 posted for the little sparkly pink grit box?
14. Just avoid confusion, I am asking for the distance between the straight edges of the two pickups, if that makes sense? Not the measurement to the centre of outside of the screw 'nub'
15. Hi guys, Bit of background here... I am in my final year of University studying Product Design and Innovation and have to complete a final year project. For mine, I have decided to combine it with my bass building. I have been studying pickups from various manufacturers and comparing their dimensions as I need to produce components that integrate with various different pickups. Most of this information has been reasonably easy to source, but I am now onto P bass pickups. I cannot find a crucial measurement (or enough of the other measurements to be able to calculate it), which is how much the two sections of a P pickup overlaps. The only documentation I can find of this is on the Bartolini website which says 19mm or 3/4". As I do not own a bass (gasp!) which has a P bass pickup installed (build to rectify this starting soon!), I have no way of verifying this. Could any of you be kind enough to measure the overlap of the sections of your P bass pickups and post here with the make and model? Thank you kindly wonderful BC community!
16.
Postage to the UK brings the whole package (exlcuding customs charge if you get stuck with it) to just under £100... One of the reasons I am so tempted to order one
Might be slightly more now as the USD has rasied against the GBP since I last checked.

18. Maybe the classic ''blending with clean tone'' would be a fix? Are you feeding the Octave into the Overdrive? Or the other way around?
19. I hear that... feel guilty keeping my CTM in its flightcase in my room, but I won't part with it as it was a 21st birthday present and is custom (chrome face instead of black) and has a message from the guys at Ashdown on the back)
20. I think the tone stack on these are fairly similar to my CTM, which is based on a Fender style tonestack, so if you knock all the controls to zero, you get nothing. These are great sounding amps; if I didn't have a CTM-300, this would be oh so very tempting. Good luck with the sale
21. They are busy as they are at Bass Player Live in LA. Mark normally replies to all emails but is over the pond. Try calling them in Monday. Somebody should be able to help
