1.
To make things worse, you can bet your insurance has a clause meaning they don't payout if the theft is from an unattended vehicle. I looked into it and its difficult to get cover.
Another reason to ensure it never happens.
2.
I really don't know. Do you mean instruments unattended in a vehicle that can be seen? I do sometimes very briefly leave stuff in the car, but only if I can get it under the hatchback cover, out of sight. I'd never leave stuff in a car for an extended period, or overnight.
Even out of sight, there is still a risk. I can understand some gear in certain situations, but never instruments.
3. Time and again, In reports of instruments being stolen, it seems to be the case that they were left unattended in a vehicle. What are the legitimate reasons for doing this and why do people continue to take such a chance when, presumably, they are aware of the risk of theft?
4.
Yeah, for roasting chickens too. It got me every time- "This isn't just chicken..."
...It's albatross.
5. I have a '72 and '73. "Mudbucker" is a total misnomer. The bass lacks zingy top end, but is full of growling mids and is far from a muffled, boomy sound (though that can be achieved if so desired.) The '72 has been my main bass for 16 years and has been used for rock, disco, soul, metal, folk, pop, rock 'n' roll and more. A lovely bass to play and much more versatile than many give it credit for. Highly recommended, though be prepared for typical 70s Fender fit and finishing; I think there are a couple of buses parked in the neck pocket gap on mine.
6. This is common practice and is done in order to boost sales. Put Ozzy Osbourne next to his bass player on a magazine cover and it's likely that some Ozzy fans will buy the magazine, regardless of their interest (or lack of) in bass.
7. As an alternative to the peculiar way CW plays it, bouncing off a single open string for each part; try playing it with the b7-octave part on the next string up. Based around frets 5 and 7, instead of 10 and 12.
8. I use Schallers, but do not bolt them to the strap. I keep the locks completely separate, put the strap on the bass, then clip the locks on. Using them in the traditional way means you have metal rubbing against metal, which can (and has, in my case) cause the strap buttons to shear off.
9. Never thought I would see Yngwie on the Eurovision Song Contest.
10. "I laughed at all of your jokes, My love you didn't need to coax" Appallingly bad lyrics.
11.
Join the MU, print off contracts for gigs, get landlords to sign. They cancel at short notice, their loss, or you take them to the cleaners. Too many music venues think that bands play 'for fun' and treat them like crap. The reason why this won't work though, is that too many bands don't value themselves enough to protect their investment. So the circle continues. #GetPaid
Entirely correct in principle, however, many landlords would just laugh and not book the band if you produced such a contract. If they did sign and you took action after an unreasonable cancellation, you would likely lose bookings at other venues, when the landlord told them about it. All this at a time when gigs are few and far between.
12. One singer would regularly introduce me by saying "He played with Joe Cocker for many years", which was a total lie.
13. On Thomann now for £345, but without a date. Some kind of soft case for this would be nice.
14. Steve Perry, Doug Pinnick, Dave Swarbrick, Frank Zappa, Ian Anderson, Maddy Prior, Tommy Shaw.
15. I would be careful about taking advice from men who approach you in toilets.
16. The Ballad of Bill Hubbard/Amused to Death by Roger Waters. Fusilier Alfred Razzell's account of having to leave his dying friend in no man's land opens the album. He returns at the end to describe how, decades later he sees Hubbard's name on a war memorial and realises his body was found and recovered - that's when it gets me.
17. Tabs should indicate the neck positions in which the original line was played, otherwise they're wrong. With the amount of video footage now available, this is not hard to do. I once saw the line to Free's "Mr. Big" tabbed as being played at the second fret!
18. A spare cab is a bit extreme, I think, unless it can be kept permanently in a car/van. The next step would be to take a dep with you to every gig!

20.
Pretty sure that's on my Kilo
Absolutely correct, I forgot about that. I have it on an old Kickback combo and think of it as "The good tone knob". Set everything else flat and turn until you get the tone you want, with any bass.
21.
Anyone seen an RRP yet?
$449 = £300 ish
22.
I think it looks great. I'm a big fan of the LH series and use them as my main amp but also like the shape function from the other Hartke amps. Been waiting for a class D from them so hopefully will be affordable
Same here. I love the "Shape" function, which has not yet been available on Hartke's stand-alone heads. Looking forward to this being available.
23. If it's a solo, there's no problem since he or she would be playing on their own.
