1. ..... is it related to this one at all? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/49003-sold-mcintyre-5-string-super-jazz-for-sale/ ....looks cracking btw.
2. ....man if I saw this last year when I was in the market as I'm only an hour away! GLWTS
3.
If shipping weren't so damned expensive, I'd buy it back at this price...
Doesn't get much better than endorsement from the man himself! The market is indeed crazy at the moment isn't it lol!
4. .... cheers for the heads up. Just booked 2 tickets for his Leeds gig 4th July, should be a good one for sure.
5. Hey all, Mark got back intouch with me regarding a cab he had for sale, dropped it off at my door and was bought for a very fair price. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with again. Cheers.
6. Nice job, hadn't thought of that method before. If using superglue as a top coat do you know if you can match the existing gloss/sheen level?
7.
I've got a Westone Spectrum LX bass that uses a similar tone shaping system; from what I hear with mine I believe that the active control boosts a set amount (of dB) which is sweepable (by frequency). The interaction with the passive (treble cut) control can be a little confusing but you really can do a lot with it as Grangur says. My go to setting is typically no treble cut on the passive and boost the bass maybe at about the halfway point between the centre-detent and fully anticlockwise. Bear in mind that a lot of what you hear with a fretless comes from the setup and any vibrato you apply when stopping (fingering) the string. You'll likely need to check that the nut slots are deep enough, have the fingerboard with perhaps a little less relief that a fretted bass and get the action so that you get 'mwahh' but no 'sizzle' (which is what I call it when the strings are too low). You might have some fretless sound in your head that you're familiar with on record - bear in mind that you might have heard some effects used; perhaps slight chorus and slight reverb. HTH
Nice observations re action and sizzle, not something I'd thought about but makes sense lol! I've got a fretless Thumb 5 Broadneck that I occasionally play on Sunday at our church. However I use flats on that and the tone seems to fit in nicely.
8. .... great build thread. Please keep it updated when your friend takes ownership, I'm sure they'll be well chuffed.
9.
I've got the fretted version of this (x2 P pups) and you need to be aware that the pup placement on this bass will have a massive effect on the tone... a warning if you like.
... I can only imagine

11. ... I did vehicle refinishing at college as part of my studies there and nitro cellulose was one of the easiest finishes to achieve a good result with. The spray finish doesn't have to be particularly good as it's easy to finish well. For a bass body sized area you can finish easily by hand absolutely no problems!
12.
Very lovely, a cracking tone and nicely played. Well done.
+1
13. I'm a massive admirer of Tamas Barabas' playing with Djabe, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MHnDUru6MU He's got a great feel both for upbeat funk stuff along with lyrical fretless stuff. His playing is something I'd like to be aiming for myself tbh.
14. The Zoom looks pretty good, especially for the price. I used to have an EBS Microbass II that had headphones and Aux in (IIRC), however they are more expensive. It could also run on batteries so you could practise on the move lol!
15. Hey all, If you haven't heard of the great bassist and composer Tamas Barabas and the group he's in called Djabe (in an African language meaning Freedom) they have a new album out on Spotify called 20 Dimensions. Their back catalogue spans something like 15 or so albums, first out in '96 I believe. Their early stuff is more of a World vibe in a quartet form with percussion, and from late 90's more of a Jazz/World vibe with the addition of drum kit. Windows Media Player allocated them Ethno Jazz genre label, quite apt lol! I really dig all of there stuff for different reasons, including from a compositional and a bassist view point. https://m.youtube.co...h?v=e9SR6m3GpSs Enjoy. Ps. Most of there stuff is on Spotify and if you want to get some of their albums you can do so direct from them, as they can be quite hard to find sometimes! Pps. This isn't an advertisement for them, I just really like the groups output and wanted to share it with fellow bass players.

17. Hey all, Mark came down to collect the Limelight Jazz this aft. No worries, great comms all the way and would happily deal with again. Thanks again for the sale, Cheers.
18. .... and sold (finally) so please freeze, thanks mods.
19. Price drop to £550 (bass only) for a limited time only, I've seen something that I want on here
20. ... one of the best bargains for the new owner!
21. The maple board one, no 00125 used to belong to me at one point. It played very nicely when I had it with a really nice low action. Moved it on as I prefer 5s more (after a long battle deciding )
