although i'd have to try and get an S1 knob from somewhere
YUp, that's gonna be the tricky bit. the Jazz knob is a plastic knob, like thr original but has a centre push like the Precision, though the pot itself is exactly the same on both basses. Good luck with your knob search John!
2. Short answer - no. Fender are highly restrictive in their S1 pots. You can't buy them as spares, so you either buy a complete control plate and swap it out (like the one I was selling on here but had no takers) or fit a generic push/pull to effectively do the same. Steve
3. I'm with Dan, I'd have the Japanese version over the HW1 and you have £200 in to the bargain for other goodies.
4. got my combo from music-store.de. Quick shipping and good prices

Light P-Bass

A Japanese Fender with basswood body. Much lighter in my experience. All my US Precisions come in between 9lbs and 9lbs 6.
6. Definitely one of those basses that you should try before you buy to see if it suits your playing and sound. There's nothing worse than buying a particular bass just because it's cool to own and be seen with one or because someone famous used to play one but knowing deep down after playing it that it's just not suitable for you.
7. It should be ok, however, you'll likely only get one channel of a stereo sound coming through.
8. I've got a couple of old flight cases that I'm going to butcher to create a new pedalboard. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy spare parts (online is cool), especially those split hinges? cheers Steve
9. If you want to stick to passive I've got a set of Jazz pickups from an 2006 American Jazz lying around doing nothing. Barely used. Shout me if you want and we can think about a price.
10.
Don't know much about the combo's, but I have a WT400 and it's a superb piece of kit. Probably more of a hi-fi'ish type sound, but can do thuddy, boomy, sparkling, ..... . The only thing it doesn't really do is ampeg-like dirty. As for the cabs, I'd love one, but they're so flippin' heavy. I once played through the Metro combo (500W -with extension cab- 2x10) and loved the sound, but I love my lower back more!
I put a review of my Eden Nemesis RC410 in the reviews section a while back.... Depends which combos you are talking about though. The Metro is superb but as Rumble says, is not exactly lightweight
11. I'd be interested to know whether the parts actually check out to be Fender and how it plays. A precision neck with block markers is highly unusual
12. Yup American basses all use imperial. However, I'm not sure that the metric ones are a direct replacement - I would have throught the diameter and thread spacing might be different and not compatible with the saddle?
13. Fender don't supply replacement logos in packets! They only supply them to approved dealers and there's a process in place to authenticate any neck before a replacement is provided. It's a complete forgery.
14. I quite like the idea of the old ones remaining as it's a good way of researching prices.
15. This is looking great and I think white is a top choice! I love Hagstroms so am watching this with great expectation, nice one!
16. I'm with Nedsbeds. A/B box with one cable to your amp, one cable to a rack tuner input. Switching between the two mutes your sound and you get to keep your head.
17. Hi John I have just imported an American series Jazz for £550 including shipping and taxes, from the States. I wanted specifically Chrome Red and it's been discontinued so thanks to OldHorseMurphy I tracked one down from across the pond. I'd not have paid UK retail for one and I agree that value for money my japanese 75 reissue was the best jazz I ever had, although this American one that I have is wonderful to play and the S1 is very useful. I went for the red as I also had too many black basses! Steve
18. Eden Metro - great combo though far from the lightest.
19. I reckon black on black does it for me (well it would - see my porn thread) although I like the mirror plate - especially for Lizzy tribute gigs like I played last month ;-) I bought it off Dood who I think put a black plate on his black P, if I recall..? Steve
20. Don't sand it but use a fine wet and dry paper (1500) with plenty of water and that will take the gloss off it without removing all the varnish. Works perfectly. It won't damage it unless you take it all off and allow water into the grain of the wood.
21. How confident are you in your own handiwork? Some fine wet and dry paper can easily take the gloss off a neck and make it more playable. I do that to nearly all my basses (apart from a Ric and and older Fender) It's not too difficult to do, to be honest.
22.
i'm soooo jealous and excited i don't know whether to be sick or do a little wee - that is probably my definitive collection (except you maybe need a stingray!)
Had one - it went to Homer in exchange for the Sienna burst P! I have got a little GAS for another - black with maple ideally, and 2 EQ. Favourite? Crikey that's a tough one. I think the one I'm least likely to get rid of at any point is the DJ4, although currently I am falling in love with the Ric again.
23. Mine's a March 2003 model if that makes any difference.
24. Dave, I'm thinking about an extender for mine. what's the best way to check before i order - measure the diameter of the existing hole? If so what should it be? Cheers Steve
25. Yup, and Badass IIIs on those two also as they're string thru.
