Ya moaning old gits That bass is now mine once I pay.. In my defence I was on the way back from a festival, trying to get food at a service station and under the influence of more than enough beer! Who actually uses them naff gig bags aways?
Good on you mate. 70 quid is 70 quid and you can get a pretty good case or gig bag for that! If you pay......
-
& someone (not from this community surely?) will probably pay more than they could buy a new one for! Watching the eBay one to see if my theory comes true 😂
Well, factoring postage in to it the buyer got about a £70 odd saving off new.

Give Mum a checklist of everything she needs to give a venue/promoter before booking a gig and another checklist of everything she needs to have found out. Anything that worries you - add it to the list. It'll calm you down and also make your band appear more professional. Oh, and practise more, jam less!
The problem is the ferrule is flush with the wood I.e. the outer peg hole has been rebated to take the ferrule. Therefore the ferrule doesn't protrude so there's no visible edge to knock on to.
I've had one like that before. I used a tapered piece of dowel, a bit like one of those gauges Jewellers use for sizing rings. It fitted inside the ferrule and a gentle knock with a rubber mallet was enough to dislodge it.
Got an orange Sprague Pacer 0.1uF cap in my Road Worn Precision, it has definitely made some difference. Which you really only hear as you roll off the tone control, i.e. it seems to cut more treble so you get a slightly more vintage, velvety tone than the stock cap. It has a different value than the original.
That's interesting! Did you choose this value and type to intentionally to get this more vintage tone or was it for some other reason? I ask because I'd like to be able to say caps of a certain value and type have certain properties. Sure I could audition loads to find the one that sounded right (and really I should do that) but I may never get there... Steve

I'm only using my ears rather than fancy equipment but I tried this last night. I used a 0.047uf PIO against the stock ceramic disc 0.05 and I'm buggered if I can tell any difference once you bring leads and amps and stuff in to the equation!
-
The 'web is full of stuff about using orange drop caps or traditional paper in oil rather than the ones that come as standard in, say, Fenders. Has anyone spent any time swapping tone capacitors out for replacements and has it really made any noticeable difference at all to tone? cheers Steve

I want an economical wireless bass thingy.
hello, are there any plans for a dedicated belt pack version? I've had bad experiences with using female to female adapters in the past and this is the only sticking point that stops me swapping my Line6 system for a Smoothhound one.
You don't actually need a female to female adaptor. I made my own 1/4" male to female cable as below and this works perfectly.
Make sure you don't send it back until you know which one's the better instrument, it's Fender, one of them could easily weight about 2lbs more than the other
You know, I was quite interested in NJR911s surplus-to-requirements bass but maybe not now, knowing I'd be looking at a cast off!!
(swings handbag around head and stamps) i own a great fender jazz. i know what it sounds like and what it does via a multitude of different amps and rooms. i know the difference between a quality instrument (mine) and an instrument that is not as.
I'm genuinely interested - what makes yours a quality instrument and the ones you've tried not so? What is it about yours that you're looking for and not finding in the others?
-
All my latest Fenders - guitars and basses, US and Mexican - have been excellent. I think the QC has improved greatly over the past ten years or so. I've never had a CS though. This is a QC issue though is it, rather than a setup issue?
+1 for superb service from Chris!
+2 for this system. Dood made me buy it. But it's brilliant and I love it. -
Wasn't the truss rod back then a screw, as oppose to the modern ball/hex key system? Why copy the bad design at all if it isn't 100% authentic? I don't think they made relic'd basses back in '61 either
The Nate Mendel P and my AV74RI J are both cross head screw heel adjustment. I don't know how authentic either of these basses are in reality though.

Take it to bits as much as possible and heat it. I used the gas hob (Mrs Muppet wasn't pleased) and mole grips...
The cut out is too full for a C. Looks like a U, maybe a little slimmer than normal but cerainly the U shape.
My 74 AVRI Jazz has a U. It's 24.5mm deep and 45mm at the 4th fret. My 2005 Jazz has a C and is 20.5mm deep and 46mm at the 4th. The 'slim C' on my Nate Mendel shares the same measurements as the 2005 Jazz. Doesn't tell you the shoulder profile though. Might see if I can do a template as a comparison......

Need help choosing a stop gap before getting my 'dream rig'

If I were you I'd aim for a second hand Rumble 500 combo to begin with. I've seen some on Gumtree go for £300 or so. As a combo it'll hold its own without the extension cab and by doing that you've got what you're after and can try out the various Rumble extension cabs after that to find if the 115 is best for you (my point being you may think the 210 or the 112 works better) -
I've had excellent results with my Sennheiser MD421ll. I've struggled with any kick drum mic but that could just be my technique!!

Hi It's on this page here http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=134 on the right hand side of the page, under the artists pictures is a 'downloads' section. The ZIP file is there

Mines here too. Not a bad bit of kit for 99p. Rotation of the display unit is limited but the display is exceptional compared to a number of other clip on tuners that I have.
-
Interesting you say that - I've been through a few and the one I've kept is a TS808 clone as it sounds the best. All the Ibanez ones I've sold on....
Try it with a Boss Blues Driver in front. It'll fatten up plenty.
Spooky you say that, that's exactly what I've been doing for a while and you're spot on!
This is not a mistake by the 'buyer'. He has tried to sell this instrument through my friends shop - and the other two music shops in the city aswell. My friend has spoken directly to the instruments owner. Mr Barlow has form.
I'm still struggling to see why, with all the evidence available, this isn't being dealt with by the Police, rather than being bounced around on Facebook and on here. Am I missing something?

It's absolutely fine at home practice volumes, so if you wanted the bigger one for future proofing go for it. The 500 has a headphone out too.....
-
Just compared those pictures to mine (although mines CAR). Absolutely no difference. I think they've just moved it to a different series - it's the same guitar.

I love the J retro in my Lakland DJ4 but would never consider fitting one in my AVRI 74 Jazz. I think it would ruin what that bass is all about.
