Here's the list I was sent, admittedly, there are quite a few on there I don't like, so it's probably best that it did not work out. All Right Now Billie Jean Crossroads Don’t Believe A Word Ever Fallen In Love Jumping Jack Flash Louie Louie Piece Of My Heart Riders On The Storm She Sells Sanctuary Sunshine Of Your Love Teenage Kicks Times Like These Tush Whiskey In The Jar Whole Lotta Rosie With A Little Help From My Friends
A large % of that set-list would make it a tough call whether I'd be washing my hair and/or watching the tele that night.
.............. I only mentioned using PM then I wouldn't be posting his details in public.
Yeah, I understood that, but they've already been up here for ages (by his agreement) in the other thread I linked to earlier. He's OK with it and is very pleased at the good response he's getting to his work.

In a music shop saddle screws as you call them should get a result, at an engineering place "grub screws" is a common name http://uk.rs-online....s-_-grub_screws You may be as well & find it as easy to buy a set of saddles cheap off Ebay etc. & get the screws with them, though you'd have to be careful with thread match if your saddles are old or USA. Fender do shitloads of spares on cards, I'd be surprised if they aren't available that way. http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/screws_bridge.htm

should i accept a compromise on a new bass ?
Big_Stu replied to mushers's topic in General Discussion
the law is very clear. It should be of suitable quality and fit for purpose.
, it depends on so many things, as a law student you should know that - the act is a whole lot longer than "should be of suitable quality and fit for purpose" and value does come into it, not that it should in this case but it does in the actual act in law, it's often down to what can be "reasonably expected"; which is why I suggested he contact experts on the subject. And even with law on your side you can't walk into a shop & take money you're owed from a till, you have to decide what you're going to do about it (been there, done that, T-shirts etc). It's very difficult, to have any of the relevant bodies actually enforce the law even when they say they can and would do, - again T-shirts to show for it. As I said, so many things have happened as to negate many points of the sale of goods act - and why I suggested some of the things you now have a few days later; eg. 2nd opinion without having work carried out being one, too much time passing as to invalidate others. Photographic evidence can - and has been - considered invalid if you can't also prove it's the exact same item in question. This would also appear to be irrelevant discussion since the OP has said a few times now that he's actually prepared to accept - grudingly - the bass, but would prefer to have £ for wasted time & costs, I'm not sure if that's something which can be claimed for alone at a small claims but they only way to find out is to investigate. Personally I'd try a letter to the owner of the store with a "is this how you like your shop to be portrayed?" Another alternative, which the law does cater for is for the OP to warn the shop that since they are unable to rectify the fault they intend to have the work done by someone who can & then sue the shop for the value of those costs. I've used that as a threat in the past (along with "You realise it would appear in the local papers too? - bad publicity") but didn't have to carry it out as the shop conceded. -
I'd be quite sure that's the paint showing slightly raised wood grain through it; I doubt it'll get any worse. My Tele body has got a few short, real cracks where the wood grain has split underneath and it's nothing like that.

BOGOF offer on D'Addario guitar strings at Dawsons
I also noticed a very spartan bass section
That's a shame, they had virtually the whole Epiphone & Gibson bass catalogue last time I was in. -
It's probably a fairly valid concern. In that situation I would consider posting them back to yourself while you were over there. It's what I did with a guitar I bought while I was in NYC a few years ago. Clearly mark the packaging with what it is & you should be OK - if they want to open it to check they will (and very often) do..... and you never know you may get a good deal on the price on UK duty - if applicable.

There was an excellent exhibition on Heavy Metal and it's birthplace (YVMV) in Brum last year. The show was good and extensive, featured mostly Sabbath and judas Priest and their family trees. They had some of Iommi's backline there but sadly his guitars were represented by a handful of Epiphone SGs. Not a fan of the genre that much - apart from Motorhead - but it was interesting enough.

The laws on returning goods are a lot more complicated than is widely known. What I do know is that you've lost a lot of your bargaining power by allowing a 3rd party to work on it (though you are allowed to get an expert diagnosis on the problem - just be sure & deny they actually worked on it if you can), even allowing the supplier to work on it reduces your side considerably to the point where you'll be lucky to get your money back; though no harm in demanding it long and loud in the shop; eg. you've lost faith in their ability to deal with the problem but you need it to be resolved. For eg. I was told that a shop has a legal obligation to ensure a customer's satisfaction with a sale for the first 6 months, after that it's up to you to prove that a fault still exists BUT that may only apply to white goods (kitchen appliances etc) which is my own personal and bitter experience. Though obviously you still have what's left of your guarantee period during which it's the shop's problem & no-one elses. Your local Trading Standards & CAB can advise on that. But do check with Trading Standards office for chapter & verse - they should also be able to tell you if the shop has a history of complaints which will help you. FWIW, from what you say & the tech - it sounds like the neck is twisted? -
Realistically that's something like an early Wal, Jaydee, Status, Sei or GB...then go and kill the builder so that no more are produced..
The builder of my favourite bass (John Birch) died two days after he last contacted me, it's last valuation for insurance was £4600; I'll not hold my breathe waiting for someone to offer me that figure for it, even if JayDee finished it off for me.

The prices of desired guitars goes round in circles, it was covered not so long ago. As already posted by someone I can remember the times when 70s Fenders and Gibsons were both vilified for bad finishes, poor build quality and bad design, the tilt neck being one such. That was when custom guitars came into their own for a while, closely followed by decent quality Japanese copies. Now copies are made to various levels in all of the far east countries and "custom" guitars are downgraded largely and even something which uses "off the peg" parts is seen by some as a "custom", so I doubt their star will ever rise again. Now there are so many variants from Fender & Gibson that I doubt anything they make now will ever be regarded as a sought after classic, not in the sense of someone with a clean 1st edition Les Paul Goldtop, which apparently has a better appreciation value than buying a house.
The Robin at Bilston used to do hot pork rolls after gigs, but that's about the nearest to civilised I've found here.
Blimey you've got a good memory, I'd forgotten all about that; must have stopped when they opened the restaurant upstairs & that's got t*ts up too. I can't for the life of me remember what my first Robin gig was. Went to a gig at The Dilk in Walsall once, they couldn't believe it when we ordered 16 large pizzas in; they didn't mind though. -
OK, so maybe I don't know what i'm on about. All the local gigs i've played have started between 7 and 9 and finished between 10 and 11. The same goes for all of the "big name" bands i've been to see too
No, you're not wrong, there's just ways round it, some of which hack off the neighbours - some the licensing folk. I've been to a few headlining gigs lately where the band are clock watching. Colne Blues Festival is usually an 11pm finish if not before some nights. -
Remember to practise your "Eeeeeeeeeeeee-Yi"! cries - always good to hide a dropped b*ll*ck
................. in other countries, there does tend to be a few live acts performing in bars and clubs all night long.
In a seafront bar at Scheveningen in Holland I watched a HM band who didn't come on until 11pm. The way they were dressed I assumed they were a tribute to a Dutch band I'd never heard of or they had a dated impression as to how a HM band should look; they out-scarved Steve Tyler on the mic stand for eg. But they were very good and so loud that it wouldn't have been allowed in the UK. I followed the crowd and had steak & frites while I watched too; which would be unusual to be available as an option here at that time of night. -
we've struggled with finding a cheap way to record the band so far - thoughts, experiences and ideas?
A long while back my son's band hit a dead spot. They were building a reputation of sorts but that was it. They played a gig in an Edinburgh club & I asked the sound guy to put a metal tape in his desk for free beers for the night. It wasn't perfect but they had a rep as a live band, so I had the tape made up into 1000 CDs which they sold at gigs & used as promo. To tell you how far back this was John Peel had them as band of the week & the song he chose was on the BBC site for over 2 years.
In a sealed cab, legend has it that a 30-50% fill has the effect of making the driver "think" the cab volume is 10% bigger than it really is. Obviously, this could be designed in, to make the cab smaller.
Bloody hell, I wasn't thinking of nearly as much as that! Is maybe the legend thinking of pillows in bass drums?

It's always worth checking the "Recommended Techs" at the top of this forum. Post #51 ......... Great job & only charged his min rate.
