1.
Just leafing through the latest BGM, which was waiting for me when I got home. Great to see an interview with Barry Devlin of Horslips.
If it talks of this in depth I'll bend over backwards to find a copy?
 2.

Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! While to my shame I know very little about the band, though I never fail to love listening to them; I do remember watching a drama-doc about the Beach Boys and it seemed to link the drying up of the Smile sessions with Brian's first hearing of Sergeant Pepper?
 3.
If you're set on a t-bird, but you're not too keen on those 3-point bridges (I don't blame you, I'm not) another option to consider is the Epiphone Thunderbird Pro-IV (or Pro-V, if you like.)
A guy I know in the USA has had copies of the original in chrome steel made........... http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=7109.0
 4.
How can someone you've never heard of be forgotten?
Poor Gordon! John Reid told me that Strife had many bands scared of having them on the same bill as they'd out-performed so many headliners; one of them allegedly Slade. It didn't happen, I was there. But damn they were good, certainly the best support band I ever saw.
 5. This guy's forgotten...... Gordon Rowley of "Strife", probably the most exciting bassist who ever strapped on a Precision. John Reid on the V has mutton chops that make Noddy Holder's look like bum-fluff! Prog your heart out!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWJdJ3JudUQ&feature=related
 6.
Anyone fancy a bit of vintage awesome power in their guitar or bass? having all those poles makes it work like a blade so they're great in guitar OR bass (I have both for now) http://www.ebay.co.u...070649219219381 No connection with the seller, but right now I'm thinking "£160?" I'll be flogging a JB Magnum which looks near identical to that in coming weeks, so I'll be hoping for similar. All of the sellers pitch about Iommi is a crock, easily demonstrated by the page they included themselves from a JB catalogue telling you that it's the Magnum which Iommi uses, because of it's huge output.
£200!!!! I can only assume some Sabbath fan has believed the pitch and is being suckered! Not even the US JB collector would pay that much .......... ............. would he???
 7. My turntable is fully manual; by the time I've put a 7" on dived back to my "sweet spot" chair it's already playing & 2 mins later I'll be up again to rescue the stylus bumping around at the end. I've a 2 boxes full of 7" singles i'd go to that trouble for instead of The Beatlezzzzz
 8.
That looks good - thanks for the thought. I'd never have considered Maplins for something like this. Thank you.
I was surprised once that they stock(ed) everything, possibly bar the plywood, for building your own cabs, even down to plans & tolex. So it's usually the first place I look for obscure parts.
 9.
Get your coat! Get it NOW!!
Consider this Fiddler ............On The Hoof!
 10.
I tried that technique for tapping out a nut once, I managed to split the nut in two and remove the end of the fingerboard with it! I think someone had superglued the fecker in at some point though, as I have heard this technique widely used, just beware!
Bugger! The old disclaimer, "there's no accounting for the unaccountable!"
 11. I did the same job a long time ago with a neighbours Precision (it later transpired it was an attempt by the neighbour to get into the "good books" of a female bassist, the true owner of the bass, but that's another story. I kinda got suspicious when he brought other basses in later weeks for small jobs that needed doing). It wasn't a badass bridge, so the switching around of the saddles was easy. I'd read not that long before then that to leftie-ise a Fender guitar was easy as the nut is square-cut & so reversible. Instruction was to get a small piece of soft wood, hold it against the nut as a cushion & tap it as gently as possible from all sides with a small hammer to break the glue, then it should just slide out to be reglued the other way around. If you're unlucky there may be bits of glue residue which will need to be filed off or out of the groove, but it's all part of the fun. It's this part that's the time consuming bit you'd be paying a tech to do.
 12.
Bin those shades and get some large Ray Ban Aviators.
....... and switch to sax?
 13. What? like ....... "House Of The Rosin Sun"? or Ritchie Blackmore's "Rainbow Rosin"?
 14.
Are you sure you're not a violinist?
Desperately trying to think of a response using "fiddler" but they're all too obvious.
 15. If you or a family member have a job that qualifies get an account at Costco. They do all sizes of Duracell in packs, 9v come in packs of 8 or 9, I think I paid £11 last time. No chance of cheap copies & stacks of other cheap stuff going; I got a pair of 501s for £35 last month!!
 16.
Someone posted a (new to me) clip of Jamerson and I was surprised how low he had his
Cropper says he was the same when he first started in bands, ended up with a strap specially made to get it at low as he wanted & referred me to his last album cover.
 17.
They could however both be geniuses and simpletons.
Well I was going to write my phd in quantum physics, but I couldn't get my pencil sharpener to work.
 18. My flight-case has one similar to this? http://www.maplin.co.uk/leather-strap-handle-33255
 19. My fave bass tone? This one since the first night I heard it in '78 ............. FF to 2:16 A John Birch custom EB3, with two of the loudest output pickups made at that time thru' an on-board overdrive built by JayDee. Having a 5000+ watt PA style backline, just for his bass probably nudged it along a bit though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T13cc1DpF7g Loved it so much I got John to build me one too
 20.
I find £30 an hour very hard to believe
Me too, I once, years ago (8 IIRC), returned a 70's tranny L&B head just for a check over because it kept blowing up on full tilt and they serviced it for nothing entirely because they hadn't seen one for a long while............. it also means that for some of their cheaper amps if it was going to take 3 hours to fix you'd get a sniff down the sleeve and "You'd be cheaper buying a new one mate". Like I say, interesting to hear their answer.
 21. It's worth a phone call; I've nothing against Dawson's at all, but I've been flannelled by shops plenty times about what it'll cost outside of guarantee. I'd be interested to hear what Marshall say & shocked if it's true. Only bind is getting it boxed & shipped down, but I've found it to be worth it.
 22. I still would, if it's true Marshall have had a massive change in their pricing structure. And IIRC yours could well be described as a quality issue just outside of guarantee, which normally they'd jump thru hoops to fix. It's not often I've sent a Marshall back to them for repair but when I have it's always cost less than a dealer would charge, once it was just shy of half.
 23.
Rang up Dawsons to find out that Marshall are going to potentially charge me £30 an hour to fix my amp.
I know you said in your other post/thread about it that you bought it at Dawson's but I'd be inclined to check with Marshall what Marshall charge.
 24. Another JB beauty; quite an early one too............ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/John-Birch-Flying-Vee-/200823688499?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2ec2064d33 No connection with seller etc etc.
