"Met" him once briefly when he dropped into JayDee's while I was there; seemed a really nice guy but I was tongue-tied & just burbled a lot of bollox (no change there then).
His comments. They are mostly quite dry.
Thanks, though I was meaning the Post-it notes - and I can't tell whether you were too? I'll have to dig my copy out again - but be very careful with it now! -
IMO not really robust enough for anything but the most polite of gigs. I've had clients who have managed to completely destroy these simply putting them up and taking them down at a handful exhibitions...
Ouch! - I've a few clients been using the same banner(s) for a number of years; they might have a tier system of manufacture like a lot of things.
Confession time! I have a penchant for pre 1987 Whitesnake, it may not be elegant or high brow but it's great pub rock n roll. plus any band that has contained Jon Lord , Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, Micky Moody has to be alright. Anyway, the bass playing is pretty tidy on them albums. Being an ignoramus though I'm not sure who the players are, how's that for underated. I know Neil Murray played at some point but it's the guys before him , i think. Here's a couple of examples.
Neil Murray's a really nice guy too; spoke with him a few times at The Robin when he's played there with M3 - or other variations of life after Whitesnake.

Point taken; though I know they (or companies like them anyway) do orientation either way. I did think that 8 x 5 ft was a bit small, usually one's I've seen before are like mrtcat's kind of thing, but I remember seeing one roughly 8 x 4-ish hanging off a third lighting gantry behind the drummer.
whats the book about? Pictures of his basses?
That - and his thoughts or stories behind them, in the form of post-it notes, though I can't remember if they're his or if it was a writer's gimmick. -

While I don't generally go a bundle on semis I saw an Ibanez AGB200 in Johnny Roadhouse, Manchester not so long ago & could have been sorely tempted if I'd been in a buying mood. -

I had mine on advance order from Amazon when it was first published; it's an excellent archive, though as with many Amazon purchases it arrived a bit bent around the edges. -
Mind you, the last two messages I left for Roqsolid remain unanswered, we're talking weeks too! Oh well, I will remain optimistic and keep you all posted.
Happened to me too; turned out his hard disk had died. Give them a call, he was very apologetic and got mine sorted as soon as; once he knew. I was delayed a few weeks but honestly they are very well worth the wait.

I haven't seen the sales personally but I've been told that they sometimes hit £100+ on Ebay. -
I'm involved. It wasn't ignored.
OK, thanks for the detailed clarification.
the role played by forums in promotion of trademark infringement.
My point exactly in the post previously; which was rather blatantly ignored!
Im going to start off by saying the heart of the bass is the pickups, as they probably have the largest impact on the tone
Now you've done it! Only way you can redeem yourself is to have a baked maple neck fitted to it.

All of Slade used Rotosound throughout their gigging history, it was going to be put into their adverts - right before they stopped touring - typical Slade sense of timing. Always changed every second night, and quite often by them themselves. I asked them why Rotosound once, expecting some kind of technical detail and was told it was because they were reliable ...................... and of course...........cheap.

From what you say about his history of 0 posts or feedback & finding faults where you know there weren't any - it may have a whiff of possible scam about it. And a luthier can't handle a set-up either? Depending on how you were paid for it watch out for a delayed clawback if it was by Paypal, credit card or a cheque.

Desperately trying to NOT sound patronising but you're a bit younger than my son & he's been involved in various band projects since he was 14. I'd tell you the same thing I'd tell him. Grab the biggest opportunity you can while you're still young enough & without any ties to do so, as long as there's no pay-back. He works in the pub trade too in-between commissions, & he's always been able to find a slot to come back to. As the saying goes "You're a long time dead". Assuming you're happy that you can fill the gig on guitar (1st option) then I'd say grab it while you can. If it fails you can at least say you did it - and the trip would be worth it.

Sometimes I wish I didn't live in a flat...

I came home from work once to find my son having a band practise in his room; he's the drummer The bassist had his small rig going; it was still loud but the vibration he'd dealt with by stacking all of the cushions off the two couches and putting the amp on top, a bit precarious but it worked to a fair point. -
I know how you feel to an extent Lozz, few differences - such as being told by a doctor that I'd been wasting my time with a pension, I won't make it that far (only one way of finding out though). But life can have events and changes of heart which you reassess things on. I'm offloading one of my guitars to a collector this w/e. My two electro-acoustics are on long-term loan to my niece, if she chose to keep one of them I wouldn't mind. Most of them have been gathering dusts for too long. Other side of the coin is that it makes space for a couple of other projects that have been on a back-burner for too long, for as & when they go onto a "front burner".

.......... but this thread http://basschat.co.u...-copyclone-bass is allowed to carry on going? Difference being the two none-Ricks above are clearly marked by their manufacturers name, but the ones in the thread are Chinese knock-offs claiming to be Ricks. Does this mean links to forgeries are OK but pics aren't or do you know whether John Hall would be happy with either? I did report the linked thread, entirely because of your Rick litigation concerns, but was ignored. I've made no secret of my intention to get hold of a R*****B****R and have it customised beyong being Rick or otherwise sounding; but it'd be pointless to ever post it without pics. I know it's been clarified in the past - and very clearly - but that thread about "clones" kinda muddies it up again.

Could be, the levels are all over the place at first. Both Cropper and Matt Murphy are inaudible in the early stages, and Matt's guitar has feedback in the 2nd.

One of the most gorgeous custom guitars I ever saw was a Strat made by a guy called Joe Wolf who used to be the tech for Edinburgh Sound Control in the early 90s before Rod Vaughan. It had a thru neck, can't remember the wood but it was dyed black throughout with the most amazing book-matched body grain and flamed neck, I remember it had a carved wolf's paw-print as a logo. I believe he left to live in the Western Isles building guitars but I've never heard of any being made. He was a brilliant guitar tech too!

Just found this, posted earlier this year, but AFAIK not a commercial release on video/DVD. A live BB gig from two years before the film, awesome atmosphere, maybe not released because of tech problems in the first two songs. So far reached "Shotgun Blues" (at 15:55) which has some excellent solid bass from Duck. Enjoy!

It's probably the same for any band that's been going for donkey's years. Punters go to see them to hear the classic hits from years ago & anything new for the majority is just filler until the next classic comes along in the set list. It's certainly my experience of seeing the Stones, Quo, Slade (when they did tour), Bowie & I'll think of the rest later...... on the Stones gig it was (IIRC) "You Got Me Rocking" which was the single from the album of the tour & it got similar reviews, plugs and promotion - but I doubt it'll be in the next tour's set. Doesn't mean it or this one is cr*p, it's just not got a classic riff that you've heard since you were in your pram.
Love the Oasis comment mate. Part of me sometimes think maybe we should do at least one oasis tune..then i remember i disliake them and that thought soon goes away. No offense to anyone who does like oasis, they just aren't my bag!
I was hanging with a band of other 40+ year olds near Edinburgh & the whole pub was baying for "Cigarettes & Alcohol"; neither of the two guitarists had heard of it, so I shouted "Do Bolan's "Get It On" - a light of recognition lit his face & off they went to the crowd's roar of approval ......... up until the opening lyrics when there were 100+ faces going "Huh?"
