1.
Alright guys, chill out - just a misunderstanding. We're all friends here.
Shakespeare Longfellow What goes up a chimney? Santa Claus!
 2. Is it just me that's finding some of these conversations/complaints incredible?
 3. I've all the time in the world for any muso who's stamped their mark in the business & Wilco did that big-time. Reading about him closing with Bye Bye Johnny brought a lump to my thought.
 4.
a shame that only 4% of people had donated and spoilt it for people like me that gave a sensible donation
Yup, in many areas, but especially the music world, one of the lowest forms of life is the "free-loader" & that's all - IMHO - these people are or were.
 5.
The thing that freaks me out the most is the hysterical, fawning fan boys, who seem oblivious to the fact that its so transparent to the rest of the world that they are hoping to be 'rewarded' or at least 'recognised' in some way for their scary and dogged determination to defend 'their brand' and its figurehead. I don't think some of them can even admit it to themselves!
Oh this^ very much this^. I see in both cases where this arises the CEO is active on the forum in question, so I can only put it down as them looking for a pat on the head. Quite pathetic really, the prefect bass has never been invented yet (apart from mine ) so to practically deify a lump of wood is infantile.
 6. Looks good, maybe try a Chav-el next?
 7. 1200 wet&dry with soapy water as a lube and a lot of patience.
 8. Note to self: Must get a new battery for my watch, mine is stuck on 23rd March not 1st April.
 9.
Hey Big Stu, keep us informed of this will ya? Really looking forward to this.
Will do - apparently he's signed a deal with a publisher after a fair bit of hunting, but last I heard it was supposed to be around September of this year. http://www.donpowellofficial.com/index.html Ever since the car smash in '73 that nearly killed him he's kept a very detailed daily diary because he lost the ability to remember. Even now he has problems with recent memory but the amount of detail he remembers from their early years is phenomenal.
 10.
even for cakes? (it's a cake, isn't it? I hope so, I'd bite it)
I believe it's the template that Mark D Philips uses to cut his "1st fret topnuts" to.
 11. In your case (fnar fnar) what I'd do is invest in a full flight-case, which an expensive bass deserves anyway & from what I've heard are a lot cheaper than they used to be for the same standard of protection. Failing that I'd ask the airline on their policy of you taking it on as hand luggage, which I've seen some people do, but obviously wouldn't know if they paid for the privilege.
 12. There was similar thread to this a few weeks ago. In light of that thread the person you're looking for might have 101 genuine or personal reasons for losing touch - or he may not. He would almost certainly have valid complaint at having his surname & home town posted on a public forum without his knowledge or consent, which (IMHO-FWIW-YVMV) is equally "bad from". Such questions are best done initially via the mods rather than publicly for best results.
 13. Not Burr Walnut?
 14.
That is something special , for sure.
Yeah, it's under offer just now but I've still to get the caps done - too busy & have been for weeks.
 15.
I enjoyed Noddy Holders self penned job - lightweight though it is
Don Powell, Slade's drummer has his coming out later this year which promises to be far more enlightening. Nod's was more of a "I like me" book for himself. Another +1 on "Cash" by Johnny Cash. I LOL'd when I saw Lemmy's, still bought it though. A slender volume with wide margins & large type with deep leading (line-spacing) = Not a great deal to say. I've two biogs on Chuck Berry, his which is cleaned up version & "Brown Eyed Handsome Man", an unofficial biog which is more direct. Bo Diddley's is a good one, he's disgracefully under-recognised for what he did for guitar based music. "Flowers In The Dustbin" is a USA slanted book on how they invented punk rock, the Sex Pistols barely get a mention even though the title is from GSTQ. and "Room Full Of Mirrors" is probably the best, as in most readable biog of Hendrix I've read so far.
 16.
we're all in it together
Someone should use that for a slogan!
 17.
BC has a special 'something' that is so rare to find within the anonymity of internet forums.
Yes, but he's very modest with it - and when he takes his silk gloves off you could walk past him in the street.
 18. All hail the Grecian 2000'd, anarchic eye-browed one!
 19.
This is my very modified Squier VM Jaguar. At some stage I'll upgrade the electrics to match the looks Underneath all the pazzaz is a modest, starter bass but, stripped and veneered, it looks a million dollars and is great to play. Trimming the carbon fibre on the pickguard was challenging - thousands of tiny, highly conductive fibres just where the electrics are... ...one lives and learns
That is a magnificent piece of work!
 20.
Unfortunately its ended: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a27aa0be8
That may well have been previously owned by Kris Mason of Leeds HM band of the late 70's/early 80's "Confessor", I saw them many times & he had one just like it.
 21.
I've got a 4 string Fender Aerodyne Jazz. In the past 3 months I've noticed a slight click occasionally between the neck and the body. Its such a small movement that it doesnt affect anything about the bass.
I've had a Tele with that issue & if I lean a bit the one I have now will do it, my Gretch tho' is solid as a rock. In the past I've seen a Tele with a piece of sandpaper glued into the pocket, presumably to stop such a thing, but if it's definitely not affecting tuning I'd be inclined to leave it alone, though in theory as it keeps doing it it's bound to alter tuning eventually.
 22.
How about going low tech and putting a strip of appropriately coloured insulating tape over the poles?
^This for starters to the actual question. Though it's rare for pickups to be at their optimum for either tone or volume to be so high as to cause such an issue. You say it's due to your playing style, but have you tried to see what they're like a bit lower? PS. Call that butchering? I've butchered my Tele so much it only has the body that's original on it!
 23.
My bad then it seems
I wouldn't say that - you just can't account for the unaccountable. Twice I've shipped a valve amp head overseas. First one was a "Vamp" that went to Australia, second was a Hiwatt 200 that went to New York. In both cases it was boxed in a proper heavy duty amp cardboard box, about 6 inches of bubble-wrap & polystyrene monster munches then another cardboard box. Both shipped by FedEx, both arrived in as good a condition as they left........................EXCEPT! .......... they both had smashed mains lamps on the front! How the hell just that is damaged behind about 8 inches of packing - twice! is beyond me! BTW - the case in that OP pic looks identical (Gator???) to one I took a Tele to Holland in. Can't remember the airline but it arrived perfectly - it's just the luck of the draw. When I was collared by the customs I got edgy but he was just being a Dutch bloke who played & was being nosey.
 24.
It's only been Oceana since 2004, and these days bears little resemblance to the original Palais other than the entrance façade which I assume is a listed structure.
Shame - in a roundabout way - that scene reminds me of my first gigging forays in night-clubs, the smell of spilt beer, stale smoke & your feet sticking to the carpets. Not something to miss but every so often I still find a pub that's like that. About 10 years ago I was in Nottingham I was surprised to see a small Hard Rock Cafe! Assuming it was a genuine one & not a copy. It had closed next time I was there.
 25.
.............the little things that set people against each other. Religion, politics, racism, global warming, decals on a headstock - the list goes on.
If you have to be told once more about having McCartney in such lists you'll stand in the corner ............. with a decal on your hat!
