I've always had a soft spot for Spacer by Sheila B Devotion
+1 Heres another one that oozes pop. Wasn't their most popular though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsSoDsxB7Yo

Wedding in a big marquee overlooking the Purbeck hills. Great setting - easy setup - a crowd that were well up for it and loverly ladies in skimpy outfits. What is there not to like? Home by midnight. Win win win.

Get it all

Mr Jackson.. PYT.....the perfect pop song.??
BottomE replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
I love the approach to the bridge (the part with the little "real" bass solo bit). Na na na na (echo). It gets a mixed reaction though from punters and compared to other MJ or Jacksons stuff we do it doesn't appear to be as popular. -
"Lets do that funky break" ..Bernard Edwards
BottomE replied to Highfox's topic in General Discussion
Good stuff. Just finished the Nile Rodgers book which is a great insight into the world these guys lived in. Bernards grooves are eternal. He was a "proper" bass player. -

We do a cover of this which never does it justice. Its a good track but TBH not one of my favourites. Its a bit too robotic to be truly funky and the fat bass synth sound is a bit of a grind after a while. The composition is great - just wish that it was played with some more "traditional" sounding instruments. -
Whats wrong with the name? its catchy, hard to forget, modern? Its at least slightly different from the" .... experiment" or the ".... movement"
I was trying to be clever by linking that comment to another thread thats going on Not really bothered about what they are called when they can play like that I did think they were called the BP Underground till this thread started though
Tis odd. I notice they did not make your earlier list though [Thankfully] http://basschat.co.u...tening-to-them/ Garry
Good call Garry. Fortunately for me i got to see them before i knew what they were called.

Heres one that a member of the band says during a rehearsal that grates a bit...We finish a run through of a new song. Me: I think the part going into the bridge needs to be tighter. Him: Yes, 1-2-3-4 Me: Hang on, what are we gonna do to make it better Him: (stares at me - no ideas forthcoming)

I saw them last night at the TOP gig. Top band, great arrangements gonna be checking them out. sh*t name though.

You've already mentioned Squire and i got one for £75 off of the bay on a total whim. Its an early 80s model - very ugly and weighs a ton. When i plugged it in i was expecting to chuckle at is inferiority compared to my "expensive" basses. And chuckle i did as it sounds stunning! I'd bought a load of hardware to customise it but ended up having to use the hardware on another project as everything on the 30 year old Squire worked perfectly.

Little side story - a guy called Andie Airfix painted one of our family shop signs on the Kings Road when i was a kid. He later went on to do a lot of rock art. How exactly do you trade a bass through basschat?
BottomE replied to CBbass's topic in General Discussion
Its a risk. Like Ebay and any other internet based trading model. Look out for members with very few posts and/or no feedback. I have traded a few basses through here and been more than satisfied. -
We had to learn Frank Valli "My Eyes Adored You" for a first dance at a wedding. On examination the lyrics are a bit weird, especially for a first dance. "My eyes adored ya Like a million miles away from me you couldn't see how I adored ya So close, so close and yet so far" slightly pervy?
Hey guys, i'm in the middle of doing some research in Authenticity in popular music for an assignment at uni. I thought i'd open the discussions with you lot. What are your feelings on the matter, what makes for example Led Zeppelin more authentic than lets say, Jedward etc... You can see where i'm going with this So what is your take on authenticity in music. What makes it authentic and what doesn't.
I think i see where you are going. The media play a big part. In the old days bands that featured in Melody Maker were oft perceived to be cool and those in Smash Hits less so. When punk erupted it was all about sub-culture but punks were pretty smart marketeers playing on this. I remember they used coloured vinyl as a sales gimmick and The Sex Pistols were more manufactured than many less cool bands. Peer pressure also plays a part - bands that your mates say are cool, rootsy etc. The radio or TV programme that you are played on plays a part. Its all bollocks though. If its good its good edit for typing rubbish

Can't believe this. Its bass as in ACE with a B in front of it. Its not even up for discussion. Its a fact.

Made me laugh in Spain when trying to ask directions to Valencia. Nobody told me that "V" is actually "B" so i should of said Balencia. EDIT: Should of said its really prnounced "Balenthia". Are they mad?

Its all good. The original and this. They are very different approaches to the song thats for sure. If there was a gun to my head and i had to choose over MM version and TOP i'd go TOP but hopefully that ain't gonna happen.

Hiya Nick You should find a like-minded bass player here if you post in the Bass Players Wanted thread. Good luck. Jerry
I was a teacher myself for many long [s]and happy[/s] years, and am well acquainted with the habits of third formers. It's just that I don't remember ever using the phrase (or any of its various friends for that matter). I do remember some of my teachers using it back in the '60's though.
Cheeky
