1.
McVie and Entwhisle aren't fancy players but played Alembic..but yeah, roots on a fancy top is a bit naff. The basses are a bit 'look at me' so you should have a bit of a trick or two...IMO.
That's me buggered then I've been saving for ages and sold a couple of basses to be able to commission an ACG fretless to play. I'd be highly flattered if somebody described my playing as 'utilitarian'.
2. Sadly I never saw PG do Supper's Ready, but did see the Seconds Out tour when Mr Collins did a passable impression. Great song though; I think Foxtrot is one of life's essential albums for proggies.
3. I did a search for the topic and not much showed up so I thought I'd start a topic. I met Drew last week when I popped in (by appointment) to have a look at some basses. What a nice person and a good selection of basses to drool over (and carefully wipe down afterwards). I'd definitely recommend a visit to all of us NW based players and any tourists who don't mind the rain, the pies and the wippets. Excellent cup of tea and a chat too. The really worrying thing is I drive home passing within less than 1 mile of the Lounge every day . I feel much castigation from the sainted Mrs ead will be coming my way. ....and yes, Drew did 'make' me buy a bass. Pic to follow.
4. I can only endorse what has been said above. Great basses, excellent value for what your money buys you.
5. Purchased some La Bella strings. Perfect gent, very easy to deal with. Thanks very much Ryan.

7. Heads of agreement reached so sold pending formalites.
8. Cheers andybassdoyle, you are clearly a man of considerable wisdom.
9. Last chance before ebay... As it says really. Gauges are 45 65 85 105. Brand new un-opened set, came with my subscription to BGM and I'm strictly a flatwound or nickel string user.. £12.50 posted mainland UK Thanks for looking.
10. This is one of the first batch of these highly regarded basses that I have owned from new. Being in the first batch it was QA'ed and set up by Chris and the Overwater team in the UK. I've had it for about 18 months now and really enjoy playing it. Only reason for sale is the forthcoming purchase of an ACG bass and as such it must sadly go as part of the fund raising process. As you can see the finish is a lovely trans black with maple neck and pearloid inlays. The bass is active with a John East 2-band EQ (plus a 'pull for bright' function on the volume knob). The bass is in excellent condition with no marks/dings that I can see and has been lovingly looked after whilst in my possession. Full spec on the Overwater site. I'm looking for £400 ovno for the bass. This includes a good quality padded gig bag and a spare set of Overwater Nickel strings light gauge (same as it was supplied with). For £25 more a Gator hard case can be had.
11. +1 The advice I got from Alex was very good, although I nearly went for the 2 x Compact set-up.
12. I'm completely sold on my Compact/Midget set up. I play in a 2 guitar/bass/drum band doing anything from melodic accoustic to heavy bluesy rock and the BF cabs cope easily. My amp is also considerably 'turned down' using the BF cabs from where it was for my previous Ashdown pairing of a 2x10T plus a 1x15. Much easier to hear and a lot clearer and defined sound. Get one!
13. Sorry to hear that, rough deal. No experience myself of this kind of treachery!
14.
That's the one - I went to the 4th Aug show , the first one of the two.
..and I was at the second show. Small world.
15.
Gillan - Southampton Gaumont with John McCoy on bass. All I remember is it being bloody loud!
A fine venue, spent many a gig there when I was at the Uni. Memorable gigs included The Who, Thin Lizzy, Peter Gabriel, The Tubes...
16. Elton John touring the Yellow Brick Road album in Genoa (we were living in Italy at the time) in 1974 iirc.
17. I'm in the club too...
18. These look pretty cool too. Just wondering if I can afford a set or two? http://dknob.com/index.html
19. Wasn't Alan Jackson a bass player? If not him I'm sure one of the brothers was...
20. Just acquired some pre-loved TI JF345s from David. Everything as it should be, plenty of PMs, happy camper here. Deal with confidence.
