1. I also omitted to report my ownership of some Audio Technica AD700s. Decent cans (ignoring the pretty dodgy gold/lavender colour scheme), and probably one of the most comfortable headphones I've had. Airy sound, possibly better for classical and jazz rather than rock, but we are straying into very subjective areas here.
2.
....Owned GS1000...
3. The two obvious ones for me would be Geddy Lee or JPJ. But then any of Chris Squire / Mike Rutherford / Roger Waters to see the full prog thing from the stage not the audience would be interesting too.
4.
The "Benefit"... hmm... Nothing worse than having to sit beside some knob on the bus that's belting out the music you despise (although they might be wrong to despise the music you are listening to, they still despise it). Worst of all are the knobs on the bus that don't know what headphones are, and still insist on belting out the music you despise.
Sorry when I said everything else, I meant around the house/music/TV etc. When I'm out and about I always use my in-ear Westone 2s (brilliant btw but not for this thread) with the soft foamy stuff for full insulation, and a portable headphone amp.
5. I keep thing of the Hejira album, so can't get past that to think of other possibilities Slight hijack here (sorry). Anybody also remember Angie Bowie doing her poetry thing with a bass player noodling in the background?

8. Serial Grado user here. iGrado for the gym and '80s for everything else. Top phones with great sound stage, comfortable etc. My only criticism would be they are a bit leaky so others around you will get the benefit of what you are listening to.
9.
Thanks for all your replys.. I have made an appointment with Drew for Friday. In the meantime i will check out dawsons and pmt. Best regards, mark
....and....what happened next, I think we should be told.

Hopefully this will work...Here's my recent acquisition...
11. Don't forget inflation when considering investments either. £100 in 1970 is equivalent to around £1,300 today.
12.
I will go with another manufacturer, but after a look at Amazon reviews of all sorts, I am completely lost iGrado looked good but they apparently leak noise and I hate people with leaky headphones. Cheers.
iGrado are excellent, as are most Grado products, but as you say they are leaky. My pair are around 4 years old now, but I do think the cable is too fine for harder use. If you can stretch to some SR80s or SR60s you won't be disappointed.
13. At the risk of being burned as a witch (again ) for heresy, you could get a very lovely hand-crafted ACG Graft J type bass for about 1/2 the price of an MIA Fender. Or go the whole hog for about the same money. http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Available/37/
14. Could I recommend Westones. They have heavier duty twisted cable and seem more rugged than most, plus they provide great quality audio. Not the cheapest sadly.
15. Struggling to upload pics again. If you'd like to see the beasties please PM me with an e-mail address.
16. I have the original set p/ups from my Antoria jazz bass that came with the instrument when I bought it; the owner having swapped them out for some Fender Japan items. I like the bass as it is so would like to move the original set on. They both measure a bit north of 7k ohms according to my multimeter on the static resistance test. I'll put some pics up later on. Thanks for looking.

18. I like Alan's basses at ACG as well as Jon Letts work. Both beautifully crafted rather than manufactured and cheaper than most of the MIA bulk output.
19. PMT has a reasonable amount of stuff in it. There's alao Jonny Roadhouse but I've never been there. For basses the Manchester Bass Longe is interesting (pre-owned stuff). Give Drew a ring and arrange a visit but I'd leave your wallet in the car!
20. Fender 9050CLs are good too (imho obviously) and around £20.
21. As the question is 'regularly use...' I voted NO as I used very occasional distortion and even less occasional chorus.

My First ACG

I'm sure you will love it. The wait between knowing it's ready and getting the bass is torture.
23.
You mean some basses have frets? Like a guitar? Interesting concept....
It will never catch on.
24. Nice surprise to hear the new single on the radio this morning, plus forthcoming album. Definitely excited.
