1. Is that a weird trapezium contouring on the top, or is that just a reflection of whatever was above the bass when you took the photo?
2. Damn me being away for gigs elsewhere this weekend! Good score (:
3. That looks ideal! Have you used this stand yourself with nitro finishes?
4. Hello folks, I'm after a double stand that will hold two basses or guitars securely, and won't harm nitro finishes (have a few of those now between the necks of my Sadowskys, Gibson CS and older Fenders). Ideally they would fold and store compactly in a gig bag: I have a couple Ultimate stands which are pretty good but wanted to see what else was out there. Thanks!
5.
I have a bass with exactly this same body from the bass doc and I can confirm that they are high quality, nice wood but also light - I recognise the sunburst pattern
Do you know if the finish is nitro or poly?
6. Because of all the dollar bills stuffed into it? 😉 (sorry)
7.
Speaking of which, just seen a gorgeous sunburst 339 on sale on BC. NOTE: I have no affiliation to the seller!
That's very nice - and Feline do all my setup work so I'm sure it plays like a dream too.
8. I've had my matching Super J and Super P for a few months, but this is the first time I've had them both at home at the same time as I've had them in the shop getting a few things looked at, serviced and upgraded. The P is completely stock other than D'Addario Chromes and having the Tone Fusion pot replaced as it was scratchy (even after contact cleaner). The J had a plexiglass ramp and a John East J-Retro installed, and I had that upgraded to a Deluxe by getting a passive tone control from John East put in. Because the pearl side-dots on them were often impossible to see under imperfect lighting conditions, one thing I decided I wanted on both was Luminlays. I went for the blue ones, 3mm blue dots with 1mm black surrounds (5mm total diameter). I was slightly worried that they'd be too big, but they look fantastic. In bright conditions, the dual-contrast scheme means they are easily visible against either the rosewood board or the maple neck. In dim conditions, the glow of the Luminlays remain visible for a long time and yet are much more subtle than LEDs: they were still glowing softly when I removed them from their cases in a dark room some 8 hours after picking them up from my tech. Highly recommended upgrade for anyone who's having difficulty seeing their side-dots. They were installed by the fantastic Feline Guitars in Croydon who do tech work on all my guitars other than basic setups which I do myself. They are also available in front dots and even volume and tone knobs. And before anyone goes on the whole "I don't need to look at the fingerboard" thing... well I'm pleased for you, but I prefer having reference points when I am doing big position shifts or starting points, partly because I play several basses (fanned and parallel frets, different scales) and partly because I also play double bass and guitar and find muscle memory positions change per instrument and it can take me a little while to acclimatise to each.
9.
Check out MJT Guitars for authentic looking checking, know they are US based but, they look to be far and away the best in the biz currently!
I have two MJT Strats and the finish checking is unbelievable. The guitars just feel old too.
10.
I think its maybe because that its a 6 string Jazz bass, which may not be everyones cup of tea.
My first bass was a Yamaha TRB6 (Mk I) which is a 6-string Jazz-type bass, and while it's no longer my regular player I still love it and it sounds fantastic. I'd love a 6-string traditional-looking Jazz again one day. This one is frankly gorgeous in the more modern vein.
11. Quite a lovely matching pair!
12. Simon's a legend, he also plays with the Divine Comedy I believe (:
13. Ah, shame I didn't catch this before you came to London...
14. How on earth is this beauty still here after almost three years?
15. Indeed - thought I'd shoot some demo video and ended up breaking a string so am going to order more from Newtone and get some done!
16. I'm still in two minds about this as it was my dream instrument several years ago that I spent considerable amounts of time and money on. The aim was to have an instrument that would have the range of a guitar and with tapping / touchstyle potential, but with a manageable string spacing for my smaller hands. The base is a Conklin Groove Tools 7-string that I had imported from the States. Swamp ash back and thick figured maple top, purpleheart fingerboard and incredibly stable yet thin 7-piece wenge / purpleheart laminate neck. Bartolini pickups and active preamp. Hipshot made me a custom 8-string bridge with 14mm string spacing, and I added an eighth tuning machine and had a new nut cut. Custom Newtone stainless steel strings brought the thing to life. Just to push it over the top, I had SIMS Custom add LEDs, including a butterfly inlay at the headstock (easily covered if not to your taste) and edge dots that act as front or side dots. These can be switched on or off via a toggle switch on the front. Will take some better photos, but these give you an idea. The 14mm spacing sounds very narrow for a bass, but it means that the B string is still reached relatively easily for an 8-string. Slapping is possible, albeit requiring some adjustment. I currently have it tuned to BEADGCEA, but it could easily be tuned in 4ths (BEADGCFBb). I know some people have tuned them with a low F# instead. Interested in trades for: - Sadowsky 5-strings, particularly NYC ones (can add a little cash as appropriate) - high-end relics e.g. Fender Custom Shop, MJT, Bravewood - ... try me? (but I'm sure you'll understand that not everything may be to my taste)
17.
Thanks a lot for the offer but I only play dark wood fingerboards nowadays.
Damn, guess that rules my Sadowsky out.
