  1. Saw a band last week and my bass nerd spider senses immediately spied....an old 80s Aria pointy bass standing proud on its stand... A few things struck me as, ooh. First was that this was a smooth 'n slow 1-4-5 roots' n 5ths country band, consisting of 3 pensioners looking like a Victor Meldrew tribute act....and there's me thinking the band player would have more slap (pun intended) and PVC than a Kiss member. Second, that I haven't seen a pointy bass played in anger since the last time...well never come to think of it? Thirdly, that my 11 year daughter thought it was the coolest bass in captivity and, far more attention getting than her her pink 'n maple P. The band were a great bunch of guys, not brilliant players but, importantly, funny as f*ck, non stop ripping the fosters out of each other and the audience so, fantastic fun....and unusual for a country band, not one dead dog was mentioned. 'Victor Pointy Bass' used the headstock on a few occasions, to dig the singer in the ribs when the singer played a bum note on his harmonica, which seemed a plus, erm point, over my ohh so soft J and P. Just as observation and, I cant see them ever being desirable, collectable or making money, but then I thought that about the Ford Crappi, Vauxhall Cavpig and Austin Ambassador, Sony Walkman, old Synths, Hygena furniture, mullets (well maybe not) so what do I know? (Similar to this puppy.)
  2. Small world....but I wouldn't wish to Hoover it. 😉
  3. That plate makes it a late 80's, early 90's Korean model....I'm a bit late to the party I know😉
  4. Funny, many think of his Aria days but he was/is a Peavey player for far longer😎
  5. This 100% and, ensure you have lots to choose from😉
  6. How does the JB20 neck compare to a say a Squier VMJ or maybe Squier Standard J? Many thanks
  7. BAX appear to be the cheapest for a lot of gear.
  8. Fantastic review, thanks for the upload😎
  9. This is why I can't sleep without some background 'noise' of some kind, music, spoken book of some kind.....I need something above my 'ambient' tinnitus level if that makes sense....
  10. Whom doesn't like a good octave run.😎 Not disco but, the biggest octave fest I've heard (and played) is Durans Girls On Film. Again not disco, more funk Positive Force We've Got The Funk, lashings here too. Proper disco octave frenzy...
  11. I was like this once, a long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far away.....
  12. Do proper guitarists have similar GAS? .....I have 2 strats, 1 tele, 4 acoustics but, I presume I caught this from my bass interest so, that may make me 'abnormal'?
  13. I'm embarrassed to say I have just realised that I possess more posh basses than posh shirts...
  14. I think the problem with basses maybe their size......or lack of. If I was into old double decker buses... Motorcycles are a problem for me too.....V twins, I4s, single cylinder, 2T or 4T, triples....then there's the usage, track, road, fastroad, touring, off road in it's many forms, old or new. You can fit a fair number of bikes in a garage...😉
  15. Did he also invent those anti static car sickness dangling earth strap things.....
  16. I was going to suggest the same thing😎
  17. Some great advice here. As an aside, surely 96db is plenty loud. Snetterton, my local race track, has a drive by limit of 92db and, that's loud enough to feel uncomfortable without ear plugs over quite short a period. 92db is a lot less than 96db being a logarithmic scale.....every 10db is twice as loud. We live close to a pub that has live music, since last 5 years or so. We love it, even more so when a decent bass player turns up😉but, understandably other neighbours don't. One man's music is another mans relentless noise and invasion of their privacy. The licence was granted with strict conditions. The pubs music licence is looking like it will be pulled, too many bands have bypassed the noise limiter, with the permission or otherwise of a DPS, outside doors left open etc in all the excitement. It's immediately noticeable when the limiter is bypassed, even to us and we aren't next door or, if we are at the pub it's a case of shouting into a cupped hand into an ear to be heard for only as long as we can stand..... just the ammo the neighbours have needed to get the licence revoked. Doesn't matter to the bands doing it, they don't give a flying f*ck, just another gig. The real shame is that there are precious few venues left around these parts so it hurts everybody with an interest in live music. ........and on a selfish note I may loose access to firming up over some bass gear and, listening to some very tidy players....even the bad ones are great entertainment though, the guy with the a couple grands worth of shiny new F bass was so spectacularly dreadful he made the night😀 Good luck with the wedding do😎
  18. I remember watching this and, the popping at the start, is erm, a little sudden?
  19. Isn't that Clam on bass again? Hmm, nice....
  20. Good timing, I'm thinking of getting a drumset. I'm extremely lucky, I live in the country, fair size man cave, no close neighbours. .... thought it might improve my rhythm....then thought that electronic drums maybe easier to hoof about and, don't regular drums need tuning and other maintenance?
  21. Am I correct in thinking that Fender didn't commercially produce fretless until late '69, starting with Ps?
