2.
Thanks for the info... the Peavey in question is a new amp so I'm guessing few have used it in a live situation yet.
True. that will also make it difficult to pick up used!
 3.
how much of a difference is there? can't find any sound clips of a db750 being played thru an aggie cab apart from people randomly playing live, or a jazz guy noodling which would be wrong for me to judge the cab for my needs from. andy
Exactly! Which is why you need to try them out yourself with your own bass, cables, amp etc!
 4.
Thanks for that! Though 450w could well be sufficient, depending...
Remember that "watts" are units of electrical power, not volume! There are many threads on here debating the relative volume outputs of certain amps that state certain wattage levels.... For example, there seems to be a consensus of opinion that TC amps (particularly the RH450) are rated very conservatively, whereas some Ampeg products are sometimes a bit shy in the volume department despite their claimed output!
 5.
I don't really want a monstrosity to cart around (I know, I want it all).Someone suggested waiting for the Peavey TNT tour 600w combo to reach dealerships. Any advice on this or other set ups would be appreciated. Cheers
How long have you got?! There are an almost infinite number of solutions to your "problem". Nice problem to have BTW! A grand is a good budget, and I wish I had that much to invest in amplification... Used is DEFINITELY the way to go IMO. Even if you buy something a few months old you are effectively turning your £1000 into something closer to £1300-£1500! Why buy new when you can get a quality item that has been loved and cherished for a short period of time - especially if it is from a fellow Basschatter! OK, you may have to wait a bit until the "ideal" solution becomes available, but it will save money and you can ask the original owner all sorts of pertinent questions about the set-up! It's a win-win situation!! Brand-wise, you have an almost limited choice in that price bracket. There are massive fans of Trace Elliot, Ampeg, TC, MarkBass, Genz benz, Marshall, Peavey, Orange and many others on here - and they will all recommend that you buy whatever THEY have!! Try as much as you can! "Sound" and "Tone" and such things are extremely subjective so just going on the recommendation of another bassist is unreliable. You can always try new gear in a dealer's place and then look for that same gear used! Naughty maybe, but its up to them to fight for your custom if they want it!
 6. What are the dimensions of the Goliath, and does it still have the grill even though it's shown without in the pics?
 7. Would you (or your mate) be interested in a Cort Curbow fretted five string in black? Only six months old?
 8. Mmmmm. Very nice! I've just got rid of a similar one, so why am I even looking?!?!
 9. Actually, I've just had a proper look and my thumb, which I previously THOUGHT was pointing up, is in reality parallel to the strings most of the time! Jeez, if I can't even analyse my OWN technique, how can i comment on anyone else's?!
 10.
Oh woops, didn't think of that. Thanks lol. The price was just really nice so I thought "woah nice, give give give!"
I'm not saying "don't buy it" - that's your call. Just do a bit of research first or you could end up with something quite different from what you wanted!
 11.
Found a real cheap Peavey 3620 Bass Speaker Cabinet Enclosure 210 / 218 Everyone that replies, I appreciate it so much
Two eighteens and two tens?!?!?!?! IN ONE CAB?!?! It must be enormous and weigh a huge amount! Unless you have roadies or are built like Arnie I would steer well clear!!
 12.
I'm quite astonished (only quite, though ) at the way "thumb up" is winning. I hadn't even considered it as a sensible option for slapping. You've got to have a seriously short strap to pull that off, surely? Is it just that Basschat's just littered with Mark King wannabes?
Possibly... It also depends on the way you hold your thumb! Some people's thumbs curve back on themselves so although the first joint might be parallel to the strings, the end joint could be almost perpendicular! I play vaguely in the Mark King style and certainly don't wear my bass under my chin (too high a risk of carpal tunnel syndrome in my playing hand when not slapping!). I guess it all depends on the position of your forearm, hand and thumb. Some people are more flexible than others... The main reason I am finding double-thumb techniques difficult to master is due to the upright position of my thumb! Nearly thirty years of practice makes it hard to change...
 13.
...my daughter will thank me in years to come.
Brilliant!! The perfect justification to invest in more gear! Problem is, I'm not keen on vintage Fenders Incidentally, at what age does an "old" bass become a "vintage"? Would my Status, at 25 years old, be classed at "vintage"? Scarey...
 14.
If you like tuna sandwiches, why don't we argue about wether they're nice or not instead?
Are we talking about sandwiches containing tuna, or sandwiches that tuna themselves take on picnics?
 15. Mixing and matching is fine IME. It's still best to try them first though, as most manufacturers design their cabs to work with their amps. As others have said, there are some great used/secondhand deals on here and even if you paid for your own shipping you could still save a lot of money against a new purchase.
 16. Anyone remember the TV music programme "Rockschool"? Henry "King Thumb" Thomas used to play a Thunder III on there....
 17. That sounds like great advice if you are selling a top-end bass, but what about mid-price or even low-end stuff? Just askin'!
 18.
If it ended right now you'd be right, but considering there's 3 days left to go I think the price is already quite high.
Good point! I misread the time left as "3 hours"!!
 19. Worth watching... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/tc-electronic-RH450-...6f#ht_500wt_975
 20.
Hi, it's 43cm wide, 38cm deep and 48cm high, and weighs 18kg. No it doesn't have the stand. Regards, Malcolm
Aaw. It's only an ickle one!
 21. Stephen recently bought my Ibanez Musician bass - as a gift for a friend! Not only must he be a good friend to have, but he was a pleasure to deal with. Payment was extremely prompt and all communications swift and pain-free! Thoroughly recommended!
 22.
Hi, I'm interested in the whole rig. Where are you?
His profile page says he plays in a "Kent-based" metal band, so presumably we are talking south east! Either that or he spends a lot of time in the car... Nice stack. Good price. Too far away from me!
 23.
A few of us 'Ooop North' regularly do stuff like that and organise mini (3-5 man) bass-bashes...
So when's the next one?! Are you thinking of replacing the Thunderfunk, or is your interest in the RH450 just a general one?
 24. Whereabouts are you Paul?
 25.
Wow - I don't know if the serial numbers were seperate for each model at that time [as they are now], but my original Status SII was #402, produced in 1987. Rich.
Mine's number 263 - born on November 24th 1986. I really must get some pix posted up here...!!
