1. Well, Charla's been and gone (nice guy by the way!) but the bass is still available! He's even taken the time to set it up with a nice low action so it plays better than before. It's now even MORE of a bargain! So come on people, make me an offer!!
2.
I reckon if it wasn't fretless it would sell quite easily. In fact, might be worth getting it fretted? I think £375 is fair for a bass of this quality and pedigree, chum.
Cheers for that! I was thinking of going down the re-fret route actually - any idea how much I would expect to pay for that job? Would it need a whole new fretboard or could new frets be slotted into the existing holes (once the filler is removed of course!). Opinions welcome!!
3. Just thought of another one....! Byron Miller on a George Duke track. I forget the name at the moment, but its on the album with "Omi (fresh water)" on it. Will look it up in a moment... Tha fonk! OK - it's the track "Reach for it" from the album of the same name.
4.
Jaco's "Havona"....
Although I generally don't like bass solos, yes - this would be the one for me too!
5. I recently bought a five string fretted Curbow and I'm really pleased with it. Yet to gig it, but at home it sounds good and is nice to play. It only cost £322 brand new, with free delivery from Germany!!
6. Some interest on ebay, but still here!
7. I'm impressed! Not just a pedant, but a thorough one!! And another bump for a couple of great basses. If I sell mine I may well be interested in both!
8.
PM'd
Replied!!
9. That's essentially the active version of the one I'm selling. Great basses!
10. U......
11. Great price! I'd love to take them off your hands, but no way until I've sold my bloody basses!
12. From a therapeutic point of view, this stuff is excellent! http://www.hadriansbalm.co.uk/
13. Sounds like you've already answered your own question! If you can't or won't use a pick it looks like you're kinda stuck with the "grin and bear it" option of using ya fingers with a possible "additional non-natural skin-type layer" upgrade. I've been there several times before, so I feel your pain brother!! It will be bloody sore for days afterwards and be really careful because there's a pretty high risk of getting an infection in your finger too. Might be worth going to see your GP for a precautionary course of antibiotics? Especially as blood poisoning is far more serious (and painful!) than a blister...
14. Would like to be there, and will try - but babysitters are as rare as unicorn droppings round here at the moment...
15.
he's one of the few guys that can really groove with a pick...
Isn't that a Pink Floyd track?! Great player BTW - thanks for posting that, I'd never heard of him before. Who does he play with?
16.
Not an issue for decent musicians, of course, but that would count me out
Heh heh! Me too!!
17.
as Bruce Foxton said 'I can find all the notes I need on a 4 string'.
I would partly agree with this, but a lot of it depends on the music you play and the band you play with. Much of Foxton's playing is in the kind of "middle" registers of the bass rather than low down on the E string for example. Within the context of a three piece with a very "cutting" guitar sound that works. A lot of players find a five string necessary if they play with a singer whose range has dropped over the years... A good example of this would be Fish's band (ex-singer with Marillion if the name doesn't ring a bell). As the ravages of age, cigarettes, alcohol, etc have taken their toll, his ability to hit high notes has diminished. In many cases, the band has had to drop keys to accommodate this. Many of the original keys were C, B or even E - so if you drop from there on a four string the only way to go is up!! If the track is in D and you only have a four, then you will be playing on the A string at the fifth fret! No bottom end at all! This is where I see the main advantage of a five. Or in metal bands where that really low-end riffage sounds massive...! Just my opinion of course!
18. Now re-listed on ebay, where the reserve price is significantly lower than the price I am asking on here! Go on, have a punt - you know you want to!!
19. I'm still here people! Doesn't anybody love me???
20. I was wondering about them too, as there seem to be quite e few of them on ebay and the prices are good....
21.
Wow there seems to be a whole lot of markbass cab selling action around here recently! Mine seem to be the best priced though!
Agreed! Great prices, but the cost of shipping from the Republic may well be deterring potential customers.... Just a thought.
22. B......
23. What a bizarre instrument!! I can honestly say that I've NEVER seen one of those before! I can see it fitting in very well in a prog band though!! I like it! What a brilliant idea to move the pick-up around!! Inspired.
24.
+1 for fodera too. I played a monarch a while back at music ground Manchester a while ago. Nicest playing bass I've ever played!
You'd bloody well hope so at the prices they charge!!
