  1. Epiphone Casady bass with flatwounds through a big ol' valve amp.  Beautiful!!!!!

Very, very nice. The best live sound I've ever had in 40-odd years is still a 76 P-Bass through an Ampeg SVT-CL and an 8X10. You can't go wrong with that rig... until you try to move it. :|

  2. Sold Ben my DHA Valve pedal in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
  3. SOLD ONT BAY
  4. Will take £45 inc delivery in UK?
  5. See on this pic the far right hand valve looks inaccessible to me. Don't know if its the angle but the black overhanging 'amp shell' seems to be blocking it in?
  6. Interest peaked in that case
  7. I really quite fancy trying a R-400. The only thing stopping me is the apparent inability to change all but one of the valves. The design (on pics) seems to suggest 2 of the valves are inaccessible due to the chassis overhanging on top of the valves. A for sale ad on Talkbass from an owner further backs this up. Has anyone with a R-400 got a guts shot of the valves in particular?
  8. As some on here know ive been jonesing after the live tone Mani gets on the earlier Stone Roses reunion shows. I have a Jack Casady bass that is currently strung with flats going into an Ampeg V4B into an Ampeg 1x15 cab. The sound he gets im pretty sure is using flats as per this vid:- https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjpwc-F-bbZAhVHF8AKHab1ArMQyCkIKTAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjRswxxT3HQ8&usg=AOvVaw3LLrQMYGpNZZjWUCEOUJlB On the bass Centre website it says he uses their Groundwounds from 2016. His tone at the Etihad is very similar to the above but I know they are quite flat sounding strings for non-flatwounds so I defo think the heaton park clip above is done with full on flatwounds. I know he goes through a hybrid Mesa Big Block 750 into 4x12's but his sound is very 'all valve' to me. Slight crunch and a little sag almost - is this typical of a Big Block 750? Are there other hybrid type amps that will get this i.e Genz Streamliner, Bugera Veyron, Ampeg SVT 7pro, Handbox R-400, Orange Bass Terror etc etc? Any help much appreciated before I blow a load of money on the mesa 2x12 on here then seek a Big Block
  9. NEW PEDAL INCOMING!!! Mesa Bottle Rocket en route!

  10. BOSS BD2 BLUESDRIVER - £50 https://www.boss.info/us/products/bd-2/ Whilst it is commonly accepted as a guitar pedal ive found it more than usable on bass. I used it for two songs in our old set – Chelsea Dagger and Substitute by The Who. It gives a nice snarling type tone with a little low end loss but certainly nothing too major. Again this has Velcro on the bottom and a few paint chips but works 100%. Price is collected from sunny Bolton but can arrange local deliver or postage within UK at buyers cost
  11. DHA VT1 BASS DRIVE - £50 http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/VT1-Bass-Drive.pdf I used this as an ‘always on’ effect to add a touch of hair and beef to my sound when using solid state amps.. Quite responsive to digging in and also valve rolling. It will come with the orginal EHX 12AX7 in it as well as the original power supply. Has a hand written made date on of ‘Feb 2012’. Works perfectly and kept on my pedal board so no dings/dents or anything. Has Velcro on the bottom. Price is collected from Bolton (work in Manchester city centre so could work something there). Could ship in UK at buyers cost. Pics to follow ASAP
  12. Played through one of these last night! If you were closer this would be mine! GLWTS
  13. Someone on here PM'd me a while back (before the site upgrade) about an old Ampeg 2x12.  The PM is missing now but if the person reads this could get in touch please?

  14. Oooh, thanks for this info. Have missed the halfrounds since they ran out of long scale, might order a medium set and see how I get on!
  15. So medium status strings do fit long scale basses then are we saying?
  16. Last night I played through a Mess Big Block 750 into a Mesa powerhouse 2x12.  I think I did a sex wee!  Mega GAS

They're not called 'Mess' for nothing, you know...

  17. My go-to flats are the Elites. Very nice strings as are their groundwounds
  18. I currently drive an old USA Ampeg 1x15 cab with a V4BH head. Im toying with the idea of putting a higher rated and 4ohm driver in there with the intention of possibly running an SVT with it. Now, im aware that any 1x15 will struggle with a full on SVT but im not planning on using massive volumes here. Has anyone upgraded their 15" in one of these with any great success?
  19. I had one years ago and think I got around £150-£200 for it, kinda regret selling it to be honest and wouldn't mind another as back up to my V4B at some point
  20. Todays amp gas - Mesa 400 Bass (not the + version mind)

400+ is a great amp, used mine for years.

i've just 'picked up' a mesa buster 15" combo and it's incredible! i do love the mesa tone, currently got a walkabout and had a M2000 but finally i've got the real deal. Real tone comes at the cost of weight!

  21. Just to add - I was the original owner who had it upgraded to Mk II specs by Mike @ MPAV services in Bolton. I have the original schematic for the upgrade from Daren @ Traynor if it helps anyone at all. Great amp this with plenty of beef and a lovely valvey breakup when pushed

I bought Gary's Epiphone Casady bass in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Great comms throughout and super fast delivery at a price i couldnt have gotten anywhere else. Definitely nae danger here
  23. Just watched the Made Of Stone DVD and currently obsessing over Mani's live tone both with the Casady basses and the more recent 70's Jazz basses.  Lurrrrrvely tone
