  1. My go-to flats are the Elites. Very nice strings as are their groundwounds
  2. I currently drive an old USA Ampeg 1x15 cab with a V4BH head. Im toying with the idea of putting a higher rated and 4ohm driver in there with the intention of possibly running an SVT with it. Now, im aware that any 1x15 will struggle with a full on SVT but im not planning on using massive volumes here. Has anyone upgraded their 15" in one of these with any great success?
  3. I had one years ago and think I got around £150-£200 for it, kinda regret selling it to be honest and wouldn't mind another as back up to my V4B at some point
  4. Todays amp gas - Mesa 400 Bass (not the + version mind)

My advice?? Try one and get over it - every Mesa I've tried has disappointed me...

400+ is a great amp, used mine for years.

i've just 'picked up' a mesa buster 15" combo and it's incredible! i do love the mesa tone, currently got a walkabout and had a M2000 but finally i've got the real deal. Real tone comes at the cost of weight!

  5. Just to add - I was the original owner who had it upgraded to Mk II specs by Mike @ MPAV services in Bolton. I have the original schematic for the upgrade from Daren @ Traynor if it helps anyone at all. Great amp this with plenty of beef and a lovely valvey breakup when pushed

    Feedback for uke

I bought Gary's Epiphone Casady bass in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Great comms throughout and super fast delivery at a price i couldnt have gotten anywhere else. Definitely nae danger here
  7. Just watched the Made Of Stone DVD and currently obsessing over Mani's live tone both with the Casady basses and the more recent 70's Jazz basses.  Lurrrrrvely tone

  8. Quite a few pages on here and Talkbass show it was a hybrid. The 12AX7 was a splitter and essentially the pre-amp was solid state.
  9. Old topic came up on a search but has anybody recently found a gig bag that will take an Epiphone Jack Casady bass?
  10. Hope it actually really is all valve unlike the "all valve" branded CTM15
  11. Bass Heaven - Old P bass with flats through a B15 (Babbit, Dunn, Jamerson) Bass Hell - New roundwounds and a million miles an hour slap and pop rubbish
  12. Just had a call from the tech to say my 1966 Ampeg fliptop is ready to be picked up after being fixed/serviced!

  13. Home/Recording Fender Japan PB70 straight into a 1966 Ampeg SB-12 flip top valve combo Gig/Rehearsal Fender Japan PB70 > TU-2 > LPB-1 > DHA Valve Drive > Boss BD2 > Ampeg V4BH Valve Amp > Ampeg SVT 15he Always use Elites strings, Normally (99% of the time) flats but occasionally Groundwounds Do want a nice old battered 70's P bass or a 50's road worn P for home use with the fliptop
  14. Really bad GAS for a Peerless Retromatic Bass in Black!!!!!

Yes! They're stunning, never seen one in the flesh but it's probably for the best!

I had a white one. Absolutely stunning bass. One of those 'wish I'd have kept it' ones, but as I play 5's now it's just as well.

  15. anyone else having issues with String Busters?  I know there was a thread not so long ago but id continued to get good service from them.  Latest order is going on over a week and no word despite the strings showing as 'In Stock'

Michael bought a used set of flats off me in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
  17. Original version of the Fender flats made by VC Squier. Green silk at the bridge, silkless at the top. I believe these were standard on the 60's & 70's basses out of Fender but open to correction. Bought NOS and have had maybe an hours use on my P bass. Have been on a 4 in line headstock but numerous wounds round each post. Weird set in that the E & A are very lively and reasonable tension whilst the G & D are a little more 'dead' and have slightly more tension, assume I just haven't played them enough to break them in. Will need to check gauges but certainly felt less tension that the newer Fender 9050's ive tried, I just prefer my Elites to be honest. £20 posted within UK
  18. Cut for a 4 in line fender type headstock but with numerous wounds round each post (probably may even need trimming down). Had 5 mins playtime but I prefer my Elites. £20 posted within UK
  19. Yup, after years and years and £'s and £'s trying numerous flatwound strings I FINALLY settled on a set (well at least a brand). Now all my P basses get Elites Flatwounds and my Jazz and Epi JC bass get Elites groundwounds. Problem is now I think of all the basses I sold because I couldn't get the sound and wonder if id found these strings sooner how many of those basses id still have
  20. My recoding amp, also my pride and joy. Sounds amazing with my flats loaded P and flats loaded J. A 1965/1966 Ampeg SB-12

  22. As a baked-in Ampeg Valve fan boy I was really taken aback by the sound Mani got on the Roses tour a few years back. He was using a Big Block 750 through what I assume was an 8x10 and had a very thick, beefy and valvey type tone. Enough for me to consider replacing my V4B with one, resisted so far tho
  23. anyone here snag the £750 Ampeg B15 on ebay?  Looked in a bad way but at that price you would have plenty of breathing space to do it up within what a B15 is worth
