2. GAS'd after one of these since I heard Mani using one on the Roses tour!
3. Cherry red Epiphone Rivoli (now lives with the bassist from The Sea Pinks) Vintage Sound City 200 (a mark 3 ones not one of the crap mark 4's) - now lives at Skyhammer Studios
4. Very nice amps, had one and only sold it to go all valve. Still tempted as a back up! GLWTS
5. A Rickenbacker 4005 in jetglo or the 70's P bass Baz Fratelli plays in the Fratellis (think its a 74, black, thumb rest on E string side, walnut cap at headstock)
6. Had a number of ashdown over the years right from their MAG range up to a DP200 valvce head. 7. Unused. Had to buy a 5string set as no 4 strings in stock. Price includes postage to UK

9. Ive always had good luck with Elites Groundwounds. Not Hotwire smooth but certainly not GHS Brite/D'addario Halfround rough
10. Thanks for the replies people I don't think its a volume thing to be honest, the SB12 is only 22 watts! I think micing it is the way to go. Re:Barefaced - it is an option I tried with several other heads (orange, ashdown, marshall and ampeg) No denying the weight, it was just too much a sacrifice on tone for me
11. Ive recently joined a new band who have ‘out of hours’ access to a rehearsal space run by the singers friend. Its an old converted loft type building so a flight of stairs to access our space. The band is a 5 piece with 2 x guitards, drummist and a singist. My current arsenal of ampage is an Ampeg V4Bh with a 410he cab for gigs (and used to rehearse in my last band) and a vintage Ampeg SB12 fliptop for home/recording. The guitarist mentioned that they will be using 2 x 100w Blackstar combos and with a drummer I’m thinking I would need my big rig. However, lugging the 4x10 up a flight of stairs doesn’t enthral me and I know the SB12 wont have the beans. Ive asked about the possibility of renting a cab from the studio but they only have bass combos which I know will be the usual Ashdown/Trace rehearsal space stuff. I do feel that playing through a nice valve amp gets me the main part of my sound (a valve amp just on the point of break-up, still fat and meaty) so I don’t really want to rent a generic solid state combo and spend the night battling to get my sound. The option the guitarist has mentioned is micing up the SB12 and sticking a bit through the PA. Whilst not a loud band the SB12 will certainly need help. Having never mic’d a cab up before im wondering if its just as simple as setting my sound, sticking a mic in front of the speaker then setting the level on the board?
12. Blue silks and coloured ball ends suggests D'Addario Chromes
13. Pawel bought some flatwounds off me in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
14. Bought these after reading about them on Talkbass. However, it seems they have changed the formula/supplier as these are basically re-badged D’addario Chromes. Blues silks just like D’ads, same feel, same look and same lively/more modern sound. A bit TOO lively for more as im more into the GHS type thud. These are very much ringy with a matching E string to boot. These have been fitted on my P bass for literally 5mins. Uncut (as per instructions on the box) so plenty of windings. 45-105 gauge £20 delivered to your UK address.
15. Another hassle free transaction with Davie. Nae danger here, one of the good guys
16. La Bella's and Olympia's on hold
17. Clearing out my old flats. All used and cut for Precision Bass headstock and prices include UK P&P 2 x Elites Detroit Flats – 45-105. £10 each Had a few months use of my P basses so nicely broken in a thumpy. Very much an old school flat with good thump and short decay. Silks are slightly worn but strings in good condition. [s]Olympia Flats – 45-100. £10 Had around 30 mins use on my P bass. Silks still in great condition and not yet fully broken in so still a lot of top end at the mo. Again I would imaging these will settle into an old school type flat.[/s] [s]La Bella 760FL - £15 Bought used on here and literally had 5 mins on my P, bit too loose for me. Still very much in the ‘new’ stage of their sound and not quite at their thumpiest so still plenty of breaking in to be done. Silks in good condition[/s] Would take a set of GHS Precision Flats in 45-105 in part ex/swap
18. 2 x sets of Ken Smith Slick Rounds (half/ground wounds) 1 is brand new unopened and the other set has had around 20mins use on my P bass. Tone is nice a deep as you would expect from a full on flat but there is still plenty of overtones and sustain like a round wound. Both are 106-43 gauge £10 for the used set £20 for the new set Above price includes delivery in UK
19. Cool, glad it got sorted and is back to pumping out that lovely valve tone! Did the tech say what the fault was?
20. Bought some flats off Chris in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
