  1. Ampeg B50R made in USA 1 x 12 50w combo Proper B15 vibes going on here with the lovely styling and nice old school sound. Genuinely sounded more B15-ish than my vintage SB12 I had! Little known fact, these do have a hidden 1/4” Jack line out so can be used for larger gigs with FOH help. Grill is scruffy as you can see but adds to the mojo I guess. No major dings or scrapes in the chequered tolex and works perfectly. However, it does suffer from the generic issue that the majority of these original Rocket combos do in the the power light doesn’t work. A quick google shows this is common. Still works perfectly in every other way. £250 collected from Bolton or can deliver in reasonable distance.
  2. So i got a response from BG. Not an awful lot of information other than - yes, its a replacement transformer. No - we dont know what the mod is. Fully checked out by a tech and in full working order. Slightly tempted
  3. Shouldnt have clicked that link. That ashdown drophead combo is now tingling my wallet!
  4. When i was looking for THAT ampeg sound in a smaller amp i tried allsorts and the best i found (which i still have) was an ebay bargain Mesa 360 M-Pulse. Does the whole valve thing with bark/growl but also cuts through with massive low end and clear as a bell
  5. I recently made a switch from my favourite Elites flatwounds to Fender as i was seeking a little more growl and sustain. However, they have either stopped being made or are very difficult to find in the old gauges. I was a big fan of their 9050CL set in 'standard' 105-45 gauge but couldnt find them anywhere. Eventually i setteled on a 9050ml 100-50 gauge which seem really good. Now i cant find these in stock anywhere either! I know some think the d'addario chromes are close but ive never got on with them - too twangy and not enough thump for me even after many hours playing. Are fenders now on their way out and do i need to find something similarly growly, good sustain and a decent E string?
  6. Absolutely love mine. Its the first of many jazzes that ive really liked (ive always been a P bass man). Not dated mine yet but think its mid 90’s. Quite heavy but tone for days. Came with some weird active preamp so i ripped that all out and returned it to standard wiring with some Wizard 84 pickups and now she thumps and growls with the fender flats on her.
  7. 2 sets of used flats. Cut for P bass but always with plenty of winds:- 1) Elites Detroit Flats - 105-45 Silks in good condition. Not broken in yet. About 3hrs play 2) rotosound flats - 100-40 Silks frayed as always with rotos. Even less play time than the Elites £15 each posted in UK. Pics to follow
  8. I always find that Bass Direct get quite giddy whenever they get anything vintage Fender in and often their prices are produced on the back of that giddyness. Generally find Bass Gallery are much more realistic on their vintage Fender pricing.

    Jazz

Following on from my previous post about my MIJ 75 RI i today fitted a tort plate. Not sure whether i prefer it over the black or not….
  10. My Mesa MPulse 360 has built in and very usable compression that i leave as an “always on” effect. Lovely warm growly vintage/valvey tone with my P or J

    Jazz

Being into my vintagey tones (think flats and valves, motown and Deacon) it still really surprises me that my MIJ 75 ri Jazz bucks the common generalisation that P’s do that best. I love my P but honestly this jazz sounds so good, like the old recordings

    SOLD

That just needs a dark tort plate then its instant John Deacon! Lovely
  13. Looks like the vintage P id seen has gone. As such this is withdrawn from sale
  14. https://thebassgallery.com/collections/full-rigs/products/ampeg-b-15-portaflex-1975-8 I quite like the 'S' model, bigger than usual and a bit more umph and beef
  15. Bass gallery have two. Ive asked numerous times re: the one linked above as the pics note several areas of concern - a replacement transformer and some weird addition that looks like a solid state rectifier?
  16. With a heavy heart I offer…. Fender Jazz Bass 1975 RI Made in Japan. Burst/black/rosewood/block/bound – the best jazz bass combo IMHO. This was rescued from a local studio in a non working state (state being the operative word!). No bell plate, weird active electrics (no extra routing), strings that looked like they had been on the Titanic, no string tree and a bridge completely ceased So i:- · Installed a NOS set of Wizard 84s. What a thump, soloing the neck pup gives a proper P bass wallop. The bridge pup is nice a burpy but still holds a decent low end · New Kiogon Harness · New Kiogon Bell plate · New Kiogon knobs · Grooved/spiral saddle BBOT bridge · Elites nickels added (pic shows previous fender flats) Bad parts that remain:- · Thumb rest added by previous owner but as you can see you can still see a screw hole just by the side of the rest. New guard would easily sort · Nut is fully functional but looks a little rough · Someone obviously previously added a bridge cover so there are holes in the relevant places for that. Finally there is a very slight lifting/bubbling of the decal. This is fully legit tho and i will try and photograph it in as much detail and as close as i can. Now, I know the old question that always gets raised on here is weight – this is an ash bodied bass and weighs as such. It isn’t light but is fine on my 3.5’’ Levys strap which ill even chuck in if needed. Can get a more accurate weight but for now lets just say it isn’t a light bass. It does however resonate beautifully when played unplugged. Ive read on various sites this is as close to an old 70’s vintage Fender J as it gets without the massive price. I cant compare but it is lovely and im not even that big a fan of J’s! Condition – well as you can see its had a life, some people pay for this kind of ‘relicing’ 😊 Its not a museum piece, it’s a player. Through my mesa 360 it’s the first Jazz ive had that doesn’t sound ‘thin/weedy’ (im a P bass player so you can see where im coming from). Has period correct features including bullet truss, 3 bolt neck plate with ‘tilt’ thingymabob. Serial number – N***** dates it to 1995/1996 Only reason for sale is a lovely old P bass has come up on Reverb that I cant stop thinking about. If that sells this listing will be pulled, that’s genuine too, not a ‘buy it quick’ tactic Pricing – Im not looking to recoup my whole outlay here but need a decent wedge towards the P bass. Collection massively preferred and I can meet within reasonable distance if needed. £850 ono collected from Bolton. More proper pics to follow asap

  18. Couple of PMs about trades. Much prefer a cash sale to be honest but am always a sucker for MIJ RI fenders and semi hollow basses…
  19. Price drop in line with my ebay drop. £800 collected from Bolton or meet up within reasonable distance

  21. Its an original USA B50r. Awesome valvey tone and way louder than a 50w 1x12 has any right to be. Beautiful amps
