Another alternative which is currently getting a lot of people excited is the Hartke LH500 - I think Coda are doing them for around £200 including shipping. Pair it up with something like this and you'd have a great set up.
Winners.
That's what I thought, strange that it has 2 outputs marked as 4 Ohm
Not really. It's 4 ohm min - you can run an 8 ohm speaker from each output. It's standard practice to mark the minimum impedance of the amp so you don't go below that.
-
No. The LH500 is rated for a minimum impedance of 4 ohms. You're using that already - if you add another cab you risked blowing the power stage...

Don't sell the Status Electro or I'll be in even more trouble with potentially losing body parts! Lovely collection

Really enjoying this thread, makes me wonder what I could do... ...probably nothing anywhere near as intelligent and well thought out! Keep the updates coming
EDIT: Still saving for an LH1000 & one of Claber's Big Ones though. I hope it comes close to that Mk IV / Sunn rig.
I'm wanting the LH1000 with two of Alex's Compact cabs. That would be monstrous
-
I like that. I even like it with the natural wood finish. Yum.
-
The seller is talking sh1t or hasn't got a clue and honestly believes it's valve. The GP11 is a solid state unit.
-
Ah well, probably for the best - I've just been told I don't have to drive so I can have a beer or five. It's the first time I've had a chance to do that at the 'Nest in ages! EDIT - hope your gig goes well
Waldo says "My only gripe is that I find the compressor quite useless " Yet Merton says "it's an indispensible tool" So I guess it has to be subjective! does anybody have any links to any articles of how to use compression to maximum effect and what I can expect it to achive? Thanks Eddy
Check the context though - Waldo was saying the compressor on the 7-band is useless, to which I agreed. I find the 12-band compressor indispensible, it's a different beasty altogether!
-
You've answered the question yourself - it was the SMX series. 12-band graphic EQ, dual compressor, UV light, variable valve/solid state input stage. Nice amp! Though, being a "350SMX" suggests it was earlier than a 1996 build, as by then the 350 was called the 400...
-
I never got on with the single control compressor on the older 7-band stuff but I love the proper dual-band one on the SMX/GP12 and current 12-band range. I have it in its pedal form and it's an indispensible tool IMO. From the reports/reviews I've seen the new 7-band compressor is a bit "too much too soon" on the dial and it gets a bit squishy.

Trace Elliot combo BLX 150 compact amp NOW £120!
Merton replied to op76's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
hopefully il be using my second speaker output soon, Merton is building me a nice cab for it
Hopefully being the operative word - it's taking far longer than I thought just coz i have zero time to do anything at the mo  £120 for this, I'm tempted myself but Nic would probably rip my testicles off with a rusty, blunt knife. Slowly. -
How about searching out a T-Bass with a wooden neck then. You're more than welcome to try mine out if you're down south at all, I'm sure Rob would do one with a wooden neck if you wanted one. Not putting the Sadowsky's down, excellent basses but considering your rapport with Mr Green, I would have thought a T-Bass would keep things simple and 'in-house' so to speak. Mike
Hell yeah. Isn't sshorepunk (?) selling one on here for a ridiculously small sum of money? EDIT: bugger, it's gone!

There's a sticky in this part of the forum with lots of amp techs, try your luck in there. Seems mighty odd to blow just coz you forgot to turn the mute on tho, unless there's something sinister going on inside?? Good luck
We (Meet Me In Vegas) Played at The Stone Roses Bar in York on friday night with Radio Gypsy! It was a pretty small pub but it turned out to be a great venue! it was our first ever gig and it went really well! thank god! haha! not a bad turn out either!
I used to drink there when I was a student and it was called The Grapes. I liked that pub, glad they're doing the live music thing which the Grapes tried and failed miserably at IIRC.
-
Awww, you guys! Matt - will dig out that corner piece tonight if I can Glad you're enjoying the combo, it deserves to be used rather than become a bit of furniture as it was doing with me... BTW, Matt and Nik are two of the finest BCers there are, so it's a nice feeling that they think so highly of a tosser like me
If you do manage to get inside and use bolts be aware that the internal plywood walls may mean that you can't get the castors as close to the corner edges of the cab bottom as you'd think/like. That's because if the bolt heads are right up against the wood inside you can't get a spanner on them. Siting them further away from the corners , towards the middle , can have the effect of allowing the cab to 'tip' easily. It stands to reason that the further into the corners you can get the castors the more stable the cab will be - so for the above reasons - and against much of my better judgement in terms of 'using best available' I'd go for screws every time , esp with cabs having a small footprint.
What I did to alleviate that problem was use screws in the places you can't get a bolt, and use bolts everywhere else.
Take one of the speakers out and then you can use bolts.

i cant it is a "sealed" cab, there are no screws or anything holding it together, i think its glue
You can still unscrew the speaker grille and speakers and then there's be a nice big hold to get inside the cab!

Just spent a lovely half hour or so chatting to Dave about all things bass, TV and feline. Oh, and I picked up some tangfastic leads too Cheers Dave
I've found it on the interweb for £189 plus £12 delivery. Good god, that's 40.2p/watt including delivery (or 38p without). That's dumb. I want one.

Where ? My interweb won't go that low...............
Coda Music They also have the LH1000 for £319 - that's 31.9p/watt, to carry on clauster's arithmetic fun
