has anyone mentioned spectors, or is my bass somehow safe through all this? since it's not custom, signature, and has a standard top, I think every amp i've ever considered getting has been mentioned though. I think the only resort left is to make my own! yes there is, he's a scientologist.
dunno if i've already put them on my lists or not, but i hate spectors (and warwick streamers). they just don't look... right. they just look wrong to me, not so much ugly as wrong. its hard to dscribe but i don't like em (just their body shape, im sure they're great to play and sound good) -
This thread is bad for my recurrent G&L GAS... please stop now! Nice basses, especially the SB-2
+12,000,000
why, what was it before? back on topic - i like learning slower chili songs, soul to squees and scar tissue are good ones. i know flea doesn't use a fretless, but he should lol.
Billy Sheehan (and his signature Rotosound strings)
billy sheehans not a bass player! he's a guitarist with four strings (or might as well be). which brings me to something else to add to my list - the yamaha attitude bass. wyh would you make a bass and need two amps for it? surely then you need two overdive pedals when you want overdrive etc. why not just have one amp and a pickup selector switch or a blend knob or two volumes? or two tone controls? i wouldn't even mind two preamps (one for each pickup) too much, at least then you only need one bass and one amp, and can have lots of tones to choose form for each pickup. it seems silly to me. and add signature strings onto my list. what a stupid idea. you must have found string you like already to know what you like in them (if that makes sense? it sounds right in my head)!!! use the ones you like!!! *edit to make what i said make more sense. -
Well that should be everyone on the forum covered by now sorry but it's monday and I need to vent!!!! Gerrrrrrr.............
you missed me out, for one!!! theres nothing there (except maybe "The pocket", not sure what your talking about tbh) that describes me or my stuff. muhahaha. and whoever it was that said about is there any ashdown stuff for sale, im not sure whether your joking, but my amp probably will be soon, once the music rooms built (and its nearly finished now) i'll be downsizing my practice amp for my bedroom. -
Haha, come round and play my P with a Wizard Thumper pickup then tell me passive basses are too quiet
come round and play my taitycaster then tell me passive basses are anywherer near as loud as actives.
How's this for cheap.. my Shine doesn't even HAVE the name on the headstock...
my taitycaster cost me £990 and that doesn't have a name on its headstock. also i play ashdown. i like mine, but mine hasn't got those slidey things everyone's complaining about. adding to my list - jazz basses, sound awful, the neck's way too slim, and they're stupidly heavy. exotic wood basses more than 5 strings (i only play 4 strings but i can kinda see the need for a fifth sometimes, can't see a need for six) -

ooh... just read stanley260's thread in the bass guitars section about non-reverse thunderbirds. they're NASTY! i think they're possibly the worst looking bass ever made, i really do. -

passive basses - too quiet, don't sound good, have to mess around with your amp to get different sounds etc. 3 band EQ on an active bass - i never use the mids anyway. red basses that aren't mettalic red, CAR and chrome red are cool, fiesta red etc. look horrible and cheap. same goes for white pickguards. awful sounding overdrive pedals, the ones that just make a big fuzz that drowns out what you're actually playing. and i know its not gear, but jaco pastorius. -
why not try a 5 string OLP or something, you might find you like it... i know you played your friends and it didn't feel right, but you can get OLPs really cheap and they sell well. if you do like it saves the hassel of modifiying basses, and you can then go out and buy a SR5 eventually as well. surely has to be worth a shot?
Mine was £335 off ebay, with schaller bridge, gotoh tuners and active duncans. Also came with fender strap with locking buttons and a gator case!
acitve duncans? i didn't realise seymour duncan did active pickups. EDIT: actually, come to think of it, i may have seen them in some magazine being review. i can't remember what they're called, but they're all black, aren't they? no pole pieces showing.
Get a recording of the band playing the bit of the track where they want your bass solo (but without it) then sing or hum or whistle or lah lah along to it a few dozen times 'til you get an idea of a solo to play in the gap. Record that over the track and then learn it on your bass. .. That frees your fingers and mind from your bass playing fingers' patterns and constraints. Generally you'll sing in tune without knowing if you are playing the right arpeggios, scales, modes or whatever ...
+1, my guitar teacher tells me to imagine a solo in my head, then play it out loud. it works. and after all this advice, you'd better record the solo so we can all hear it.
How about this baby - not a relic but wonderfully 'knackered' : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=002
to me, thats too much relicing. i don't think that looks good at all. the one in the first post was cool looking, but theres a point when it stops looking cool, and that one reached it along time ago.
The only one on this planet without GAS is Chuck Norris. Instead gear wants to be acquired by him.
lol. in a GCSE english mock one of my mates wrote about how he wanted to be just like chuck norris, cos his roundhouse kick could destroy jupiter... somehow he managed to get an A...
My mate (non muso) said to me there's a great bit of slap bass playing on sky.... bet you couldn't playe it ! Really annoying that I had to play it for him to shut him up at a bar-b-que a couple of weeks ago !! Even drunk I made it sound better that it did on the tele !!
did you work it out by ear? or did you search "awful sky song tab" on the internet?

i don't feel the same. i've got my perfect bass... but i still want more. just because my "taitycaster" sounds great, the neck is perfect for me, i like the weight of it (not too heavey but not too light, sometimes when i play my ibanez i feel more of a guitarist), etc doesn't mean i don't GAS for other things. i still play my ibanez and my thunderbird, even though i've got my perfect bass, and i still GAS for other things. and I know what someone's going to reply with: "is it really your perfect bass if you want others?" and the answer is yes. its like your favourite meal - you like having it, but if you had if for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day you'd begin to hate it. i know you don't change basses three times a day everyday, but it's the same idea.
-
i always hear people complaining about these tunes. they don't bother me at all, i barelty notice they're even playing. i don't really know which one you're talking about because i just don't pay attention to them, but i'll be listening out for that one in the future now you've said about it.

i wouldn't mind building a telelcaster shaped bass from warmoth parts in lake placid blue and 2 of those EMG musicman pickups that have coil tap. it'd be the "taitycaster mk. II" lol. almost definatly never going to happen though... by the time i've got enough money i'll be wanting something else lol. EDIT: just been looking at warmoth colours... scrap the LPB, i'd go graffiti yellow!
