1. Whilst looking at guitars on ebay i stubled across this. i think they did Contemporary Series basses - so its bass related! what is (or was) the contemporary series? just kinda interested cos ive never heard of it before
2.
How old is it? What sort of spec are you looking to trade for?
err... i dunno exactly how old it is tbh. i've only been playing 4 years, and i had another amp before this one. as for what spec im looking for, the reason im selling this is cos this was my main amp for rehersals and stuff, but now we got a music room i use my dads much bigger amp for rehersals and so this is in my bedroom. i don't need something this big for practice in my bedroom, so i just want something small! i usually only slightly tweek the EQ anyway, i usually find my tone on my bass.
3.
Why? If its a great bass then yes but not just cos its got Flea's name on it. Is your name Marcus or is that more idol worship? Be yourself.
i was gonna say pretty much this! i'd buy someone i don't like's signature bass if i liked the bass, and i wouldn't buy my heros bass just cos its his!
4. i can listen to almost anything (no R&B or Rap or those awful pop songs like kylie or britney spears or stuff like that) but i only really like one genre of music.
5.
Not a problem for me really. I have never learned from music or tab. I listen to the record a couple of times and I can usually play the bass line. Sometimes if there is a particularly difficult bit that is hard to hear properly I will download the tab just to check I have it right. Being originally a lead guitarist for 30 years I have always found learning complicated lines by ear easy
its not the complicated ones i have a problem with! i have to learn those to play them right! its the easy ones that i can sight read first time i see them, you know, mostly roots and fifths and stuff like that. i drilled them into my head last night... its only an AC/DC song (sin city) that im having a problem with remembering now, but its mostly open E... just remembering when to change to the open D. how fun!
6.
You've obviously been away too long.
give him a couple of weeks, he'll see sense.
7.
I'd rather like this... but i'm broke >_<
well who needs two SUBs ? i just want to see this go, i can't believe it's not gone yet! sadly, im broke, too...
8. BUMP! c'mon guys! i'll say £65 + postage or trade for a little practice amp of a similar price!
9. welcome back - the for sale forum's seemed empty without you!
10. Im finding I do recently. I gotta learn a load of songs for a gig, and they're easy enough to play, but i find im just sight reading the music and not remembering it. Any advice?
11. i like to boost everything to get a good growly tone, but the i boost the bass that little bit more. on my taitycaster i have its so im just using the MusicMan pup, on the ibanez soundgear i use mostly bridge pup with a hint of the neck pup, too. EDIT: pickup switching and the right pickups are the way to getting the right tone, IMO. im sure lots of people disagree, but for ask me the right tone all comes from the pickups and what pickups you play over, and is just finetuned by the EQ. EDIT 2: and if you cant get a growly tone from a warwick thumb, i dunno where you are gonna get one from!
12. hey, at least you've still got one guitarist. the day before yesterday the lead singer/guitarist of my three piece band told me he was quitting.
13.
Whatever it's called, are you seriously suggesting that bass wouldn't clash dreadfully with Royal Blue and Aqua?
they're called mettalic blue and ice blue mettalic.
14. sorry... but why ask us? im guessing if its a custom bass its gonna cost a lot of money, so why not go for your own likes? everyone likes different things. anyway, if you want my opinion i'd say go for a p/mm setup with a rosewood fretboard. 3 way switch - i got a p/mm bass and they do not sound good together, i cant see there being much point in a blend. as i said, just my opinion though.
15. yeah... but that bass isn't surf green. its sage green mettalic methinks.
16. haha where do i begin? black rain - no website as far as i know, but hey, im just the bass player! covers band, play sort of guns n roses, ac/dc, stone roses, bon jovi etc. in progress - oh dear. if theres an easy way to tell a mate that his band (that you play guitar for) absolutely sucks and you want to leave, someone tell me. (i play guitar in this band) band-without-a-name-yet-and-i've-only-just-set-up - errr... that pretty much sums it up. mate said he was looking for a band, and i said my brothers a drummer i play guitar if you wanna start a band. weve decided on two songs to learn and we're gonna have a practice pretty soon. (i play guitar in this band) blank canvas - my main gigging band. theres no real way to describe what music we play. we're a three piece and we only do originials (actually, i lie, we play basket case cos every one loves basket case) and we started off sort of fairly heavy, but now we're moving more punkish, we do a couple of acoustic songs, some of our songs are slow, some are fast and we dont even have a proper singer (we all just chip in when we feel like it really). blank canvas are also (as far as i know) my only band with a myspace, so here it is www.myspace.com/theblankcanvasband check us out and add us if you like us! am i the only one in more than one band?
17. yeah its fine to take them off but if you slap agressively or play with a pick agressively you will damage the finish, but you wont damage the pickguard. thats what its there for! (oh... and to look good)
18.
I've not done this but I have read about it. The key seems to be lots of very light coats, allowing time for each coat to dry, and gentle sanding down between coats. Don't apply a heavy coat of lacquer or it will most likely run, and don't be tempted to rush the job and put the next coat on before the first has dried sufficiently. I think you might also have to buff the final coats down to get a smooth finish.
this is pretty much what i did on my 5 day course with jon shuker. you really do have to sit and wait, as i quote from my own post in my thread about the 5 day course...
there was nothing much we could do whilst we were lacquering - we started cutting the nut, switched the blend on the seymour duncan tone circuit to a 3 way switch and sanded the edges of the scratchplate, small jobs like that, but mostly just played with ruby (jons dog) whilst we waited to put on the next coat. the neck's feeling lovely now
i hope that shows that you'll be really pleased with the neck if you have a little patience. and definatly not in the house, that stuff stinks! its a disgusting job, i absolutely hated it! jon had sort of a gas mask to put on, you probably wont need something this... errr... cant really think of a word for what i mean... extreme? you know what i mean anyway, but what im trying to say is a simple mask like you wear for sanding isn't great. and you really do want a well ventalated space away from where anyone is, lacquer is pretty nasty stuff! can i just ask, why wire wool it off the frets? do you want a finished fingerboard? if not just slap masking tape all down the fretboard! i did a rosewood fingerboard, do you not lacquer rosewood but lacquer maple or something? EDIT just to reorder my post to make more sense.
19. After seeing pics of the highway 1 i'd definatly leave the maple neck on there. i prefer this with the rosewood neck anyway! or these different pickups to when it had the maple neck, or is it just the different neck that makes it look really different? (sorry if you answered that in the first post, i just sort of skimmed through it, cba to read the whole chunk of text)
20. BUMP! this is gonna go on ebay soon...
21.
Damn im rumbled want to buy it then?
i'd have see it first pics?
22. i'll drop the price to £145.
23.
Or you'll get me (chief numpty) randomly wandering into your thread, being of absolutely no use at all and wandering out again (sorry, I couldn't resist and I have to try and keep my post count up somehow )
haha yeah, posts in the off topic section don't up your post count! on topic - ibanez basses. they kick ass and total underrated! try one - you'll love it. even if you dont like the thin neck that ibanez are famous for, there always the ATK - does a good precision tone, a good stingray tone and a decent sound for anything, really! the soundgears are my personal favourite, though.
24.
This
+1 these are absolutely hideous, and although ive never played one, the price tag seems huge for what they are.
