1. When I was playing 12 string basses I used to plug into an Owen bass Gremlin which had 2 outputs and take one signal to my bass rig for bass funnily enough and the high end to a Trace TVT9 guitar combo for high end distorted stuff. Easy peasy - the way forward is either an effects pedal with 2 outputs, an A/B/Y box or wire your pickups separately like a Rick with a stereo cable to send each pickup to a different amp. I did have a 12 string bass that I wired the pickups separately with 2 outputs but the Rick style option would've been neater
2.
• Really Nice Fender Licensed Vintage "C" shape maple neck • Neck Serial No. MN6196856 - "made in Mexico"
Eh?
3. I took my now gone gold warmoth into Jimmy Moon's to have some work done and I got it back with what was the only setup I have ever had that has suited my style of playing. most people will set up a bass exactly how they think it should be setup - my version of a setup is almost always different to what theirs is. Either leave it as it is if you like it or do it yourself and make note of what you touch and by how much in case you don;t like it
4. Fender Bass V, Coronado II, Sting's personal 1957 single coil Precision, one of John Deacon's original precisions. Warwick Thumb NT5 with no neck dive. Ditto about a Thunderbird Classic cars - Vauxhall Firenza Droopsnoot, Ford Granada Mk1 coupe, Skoda Rapid 136 & 110R, Ford Cortina Mk3 Crayford convertible. Modern Cars - Bugatti Veyron, Bentley Coupe, Porsche Cayenne. This Friday's Euromillions jackpot to myself
5. I could be wrong but that sounds more like a late 80s Precision Bass Plus Deluxe - does it have a smaller headstock than normal and fine tuners on the bridge like an Elite series bass? If so then the serial should still be on the headstock
6.
Lovely collection. I have to ask -- could you pick a 'desert island bass' from that lot?
it'll be the new one innit? yes it is, no its not etc its behind you
7.
Yes, I looked him up. Strangely, his bass has been stolen from the Tussauds collection figurine of him. Anything to confess?
It wisnae me officer. some older boys did it and ran away
8. He was the late frontman/ bass player / did you spill my pint? from Thin Lizzy I'm not a big fan, its just a coincidence that this ended up looking like his bass
9.
maybe a tad old-fashioned, but what about a nice 3ply black one? I reckon the gold would look a wee bit weird. or if you wanna make it look dead-flash, what about a mirror one? Would love a walnut jazz actually. What year/edition is it?
did someone say mirror?
10. The body of my new precision is from an October 2009 MIM precision. Feels quite weighty compared to the mid 80s japanese one that it replaces - another excuse to show a picture of it.
11. Most of the basses I have owned have had pictures taken on my settee, these are the most recent - all gone except the black one. usually when they have their pictures taken, its either to put in a porn thread here or to get them onto Ebay
12. Unfortunately not - sold it when I began my phase of '4 strings is enough'. what a fool. Absolutely incredible under the lights
13. Its new and shiny so its going in every thread it'll fit Basses on the couch next :brow:
14.
Nice looking bass. Not sure on the tie-fighter and the mirror, though! To each their own, though! As to your tort scratch guard comments, I'm not sure on that one. The P isn't exactly a modern bass, it's a relic of the 50's. Isn't it meant to look "classic"? Bet that Lollar sounds huge, though!
When I said classic, I meant the Phil Lynott bass is one of those famous basses that most bass players recognise. Too much time spent on Talkbs with thread after thread of 'show us your tort guards' made me really despise them. I think sunburst is the only colour that really gets away with it. The pickup is phenomenal. about £85 delivered but well worth it. Oh, I also have Darth Vader, C3P0 and Boba Fett knobs - do you think one of those would look better? I've also got the matching Star Wars strap - all released by Schecter in the 90s, I bought the set
15. Which takes me nicely up to date with this There's only about 40 basses missing from this that I didn't take pictures of or can't find them I'm still missing 3 or 4 stingrays, 2 Rickenbackers, Fenders, Cheap crap - not japcrap, just crap. my black 5 string stingray and other stuff long forgotten
16. Fender MIJ 80s E Series Precision bass in CAR Fender MIM Preicision bass with MM pickup Forgot to take my TI flats off it when I sold it, what rube
17. Defretted Trace T-bass 5 string in sonic blue Squier Vintage modified fretless G&L L2000
18. Lava Pearl 5 string Stingray - stunning Teal Stingray Lined fretless stingray that I should've kept a hold of Squier modified Precision TB Maple fretless Grabber copy, sold to some rube on Ebay
19. Geddy Jazz that was stealthed, white pickup covers and DR red devil strings Ibanez SR1016 that someone on here has and I could be interested in buying back for the right price One of the most beautiful basses I've ever owned - a very minty green Blue Boy Rickenbacker 4003 That I added a vintage guard, pickup surround and a toaster pickup Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string. couldn't get on with the gap between the pickups but a phenomenal bass
20. Big beast of a 12 string that weighed more than my car Crafter electro-acoustic - not the easiest to play if you're a larger gentleman, ahem. My second Warmoth single coil P
21. Amber burst or something like that Stingray - worst one I've ever owned 1979 Rickenbacker 4000 POS - what a dull lifeless bass this was Gold Warmoth single coil precision and Carlo Robelli 12 string bass
22. Yamaha TRB 6, defretted and bought from 7string Aria maple fretless 5 string 1973 Fender Telecaster bass that had bee modified a bit - sold this to Beedster 2 tone sunburst Fender CIJ '51 reissue precision. This was my second one, also had a mustard one
23. I've never owned more than maybe 7 basses at any one time but have owned and played some crackers. There aren't many left that I would like to own - Yamaha BB5000a, Zon Sonus, Streamer Stage 2, Fender maple fretless precision and Fender gold Walnut Elite II Precision are the only ones I can think of that are still on my list. In no particular order: Warwick Thumb NT5 - big sound but too much neckdive Modulus Flea - very sterile and lifeless tone compared to what i like but did provide the inspiration for my gold Warmoth for the paintwork and the Gotoh 201 bridge 20th anninversary Stingray - didn't get on with the flat tops on the pickup poles, a bit rough.
24. I went for JJ ones. Its hard to do a live comparison as I don't have my MIJ Fender but it sounds quite dirty which is exactly what I was going for. Anything to alleviate the all-valve GAS Surprising easy to install. I didn't look at any instructions or anything, just pulled the metal holder thingy to one side, wiggle the old one out, line up the new one and bob's your auntie's live-in lover.
25. This happened totally by accident. I had a mid 80s MIJ Eseries Fender precision but it had some chips on the paintwork through to the body and being a bit OCD when it comes to marks I decided to sell the bass on Ebay. Then the original owner got in touch with me to say that the tuners were off a 1978 Fender Precision and it had an SD vintage pickup in it. I decided to take the bass off and then put the loaded body back on instead. Ii kept the neck as I liked it, plus it had the old mojo snake oil tuners on it. I had a look for bodies on Ebay and couldn't find anything, then i stumbled across a brand new black MIM body. I didn't realise how new until i got it - its stamped October 2009. Bought from reliablefender in the US. I've been humming and hawing for ages about getting another Lollar pickup so decided to go for it. I already had a set of CTS pots, switchcraft jack and a new batch of paper-in-oil caps. I originally bought a Fender spiral saddle bridge but that never arrived from the US to ended up ordering a Gotoh 201 as I prefer them over Badass bridges. I was stuck when it came to the scratchplate - most new ones come with white 3 ply ones and tortoiseshell was totally out of the question cos it looks hellish and belongs on something off the antiques roadshow - Michael Aspel, that's it. It came down to black or mirror. In the end I went for mirror - WD do MIM specific scratchplates and there seem to be a lot of sellers selling replacement guards for Fenders, then tell you at the bottom that they may not fit. Eh? Finished off with a bargain set of D'Addario prosteels delivered for the princely sum of £11 from USA and a tie fighter pilot volume knob I set out to find another body but ended up recreating a classic bass. I remember seeing one like this in the original Guitar Store in Glasgow about 18 years ago and I'm sure it had a tremelo as well. Played it last night for the first time and I absolutely love it. It plays extremely well. The neck pocket is tight as a drum and it sounds effing amazing. Don't know if I am sold on the prosteels - I actually liked the rotosounds that i had on my other precision so might give them a couple of gigs to settle down then decided whether to change them or not.
