1. Having used the Fender stock pickup, quarter pounder & Lollar I can say that the Lollar sounds unlike any other pickup I have ever heard before. it could do what you would expect a high end P to do but it was the fullest, gnarliest, richest, clearest pickup I have ever used on any bass and when I actually convince myself to part with the $110 + postage then I'll get myself a split-coil one. When I bought the one for my warmoth, the exchange rate meant that I had it delivered for about £60 but it would be a lot more now.
2. The price doesn't seem to have gone up for these for the past few years now - I used to be into them and had a fair 70s copy a couple of years ago.
3. I can't believe that this is still here. I'm absolutely loving my 1x15" one - one of the simplest and best sounding amps I've ever owned
4.
I've a PM 5. The P bass sound is quite close - maybe a bit tighter but not quite as fat. MM sound slightly less so - its less agressive and more burpy for figerstyle - but hints at a MM tone. Proably a combination of the bridge pup being being further back than on a MM and the Glock pre amp instead of the MM one. Nonetheless good sounds and versatile.
I think it might be the burpy sound I'm after come to think of it. I had a Corvette 5 string $$ and like the sound of that bridge pickup as well. Is there a bass with a stacked J pickup that would give me the same effect? I'm kind of contemplating getting myself a Wamoth body made and get myself a MIJ/CIJ/MIa Fender neck to go with it- - that way i can specify it exactly how I want. If I don;t like it I can always sell the parts off
5. Eleven by Primus Hold out your hand by Chris Squire - I'm not actually sure if it is in a different time signature but its pretty strange and not helped by Bill bruford's unique style of playing - pretty much the rest of the ablum as has been mentioned. most of the other ones I know have already been mentioned
6. These are some of my favourites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln6b_nBM-V8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=141o_jwG7cA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cXxQ5kQVO0
7. I've just finished playing tonight and something that I have been toying with for some time might be the best way forward for me. I've been playing for the past couple of months with my 80s E Series Fender MIJ Precision and have just received this as a trade for my gold Warmoth I absolutely love the tone of the bridge pickup on the G&L and the Fender P bass sound. I've searched here and can't find the answer so - will a Sandberg California PM give me an authentic P bass tone and a G&L / MM humbucker tone? I've also looked into the Fender P bass delixe but the concensus seems to be that the Sandberg is a better bass
8. after selling my Shuttle 6.0 & Schroeder cab, I found myself with enough cash to get myself a trace 1x15" V-type combo, flightcased 2103H Trace cab and this: I'm not entirely sure if is the amp the bass or both but I am loving this bass so much that my much talked about Warmoth gold bass should be touching down with its new owner in austria in the next couple of days. Yip, that good. I remember seeing a MIJ Fender of a similar age on here with chips in the paint exactly the same as mine. It plays absolutely fantastic. Feels really good after playing a jazz width neck for the past couple of years. I was toying with the idea of getting myself a 70s Precision or one of the new ones but am debating whether or not it will be that much better than this one. the action and playability of this one is phenomenal. anyhoo, tonight is the first time I will be out with the full setup so I'll take some pics and post them up later.
9. the Sparkle is now somewhere in austria The bass in my avatar is candy apply red but its not a very good pic so it is technically still sparkly.
10.
looks like one of those old invisible body/fretboard models, i'm surprised you guys haven't heard of them! They didn't last long, mind.
Yeah, cos people kept losing them Wasn't there a few Thunderbird ones going on Ebay a few years ago, they're the usual culprits?
11. I was thinking about buying one at the end of the year but I am actually debating where of not it will be any better than my E series MIJ Precisiion. It has a slightly dodgy volume pot so I've just bought new CTS pots, Switchcraft jack, Fender US pickups and was going to fire that in with one of my new batch of paper-in-oil caps to try it out.
12. I've never played in a band with more than one guitarist. a couple of things I have used in the past are 12 and 8 string basses. I was until recently using a Boss OC-2 but have just bought a micro POG to give me the best of both worlds without having to play 3 strings at a time.
13. Sorry, i thought I'd stumbled onto a gynecology website when i read the title
14. Spotted this while having a nosey - apparently it is a limited model http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Japan-75Jazz-...=item3a5355179c I'm not sue if I like it or not - I don't normally like Jazzes but this one's a bit weird - like a cross between an aerodyne & a 75 jazz. Unusually it has a bullet truss rod and 4 bolt neck plate
15. I always change the strings on any bass I buy whether new or not. I've felt that the strings on new Fender's to be a bit too high tension in the past as well

If...

Exactamundo I've built 2 Warmoth basses and turned a Rick copy into a 5 string with an EMG 35DC piclup. I wouldn't consider myself the most competent putter togetherer of parts but everything has gone to plan so far.
17. The gold Warmoth that I used to own was made to Fender specs but the fretless Might mite neck that I bought for if did not fit. For some reason, the neck is wider than fender specs
18. When I was playing a 12 string, I used an Owen bass Gremlin split betwen my bass rig and a Trace TVT9 combo.
19. I used to use a trace TVT9 guitar combo to practice in the house - I now use a Meridian guitar combo with a Celestion driver and still there's too much bass for the neighbours.
20. OOh, I'm playing the 23rd and the 25th but not the 24th. I reckon if I don't lose that number I could be reeling in the years at my old school :brow: Eh? backstage passes?
21. Could the plan be to ruin the businesses and then buy them up for themselves?
22. The Warmoth single coil P in my avatar has a mahogany body and quarter pounder pickup and it never sounded muddy - it can go from deep and low to bright, zingy and modern but never muddy - I did also use 500k pots though which will make a difference.
23. What about the V-type combo in the for sale section? I have the 1x15" version and use a 1028H with it. Nice and simple - preamp valves only need replaced once in a blue moon
24. Queensferry Lodge - other side of the Forth Road bridge from Edinburgh - we either refuse to play there or charge a premium. You have a choice of going through the hotel via 2 lifts with a carry in between and a long walk to the function room or you can go round the back of the building and up the fire escape, again another long carry for that way as well.
