1. Creme Brulee! That damn TV show spoiled everything for over the hill, sad, overweight, balding, neverhasbeens who used to be in a band and would get a bit drunk and tell everybody how they came 'this close' to making it...........but didn't (because, in reality, they were a bit sh*t). I was in that band and we were called Bennington Heights. We came 7th in the sony rock and pop challenge in 1984 and I have a framed rejection letter from EMI, which is my most treasured possession. I spit on Creme Brulee's grave!
2. My go to sound is deep, punchy and defined and variations on that theme. If it's rocky it may be punchier and if it's a slow blues it may be deeper and rounder. It depends on the bass I'm using and the band I'm playing with. Luckily I have a John East retro fitted in my Jazz bass so if I need variation I can get it.
3. I don't know who played bass on the original but in my opinion this one has a much nicer feel to it. If you're going to be playing it in a band try go with this bassline. The bassist even makes a mistake during the guitar solo - which shows even top line session guys are only human. 4. I always associate them with being either woolly or clanky. Something I personally don't look for in a bass tone. And I bet they're bloody heavy too.
5.
Good Afternoon all. Here we have my good friends' bass. It is very very nice, and I would buy it if I had the funds! Spec: Fender Japan '62 Reissue Jazz Bass 1994 MIJ (Serial Q017350) Maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Sonic Blue body. The usual dings and dents for that 'light relic' look (These are natural and not caused by sandpaper or hammers...) All original except for: Pickups replaced with Fender Noiseless. Bone nut to replace original after it broke. (professional fit y www.eternal-guitars.com) Threaded saddle bridge to replace original (original to be sold with bass). Sensible offers considered. PM myself or email (the owner) ?subject=Fender%20Japan%20"][email protected]
Is this Jazz still for sale?
6. The system seems very logical and combined with access to the truss rod at the neck makes setting up a bass a lot easier. I've never owned a Fender which had the micro tilt neck but have often wondered why Fender haven't re-introduced it.
7. For about 20 years I used roto swing bass strings on my bass. I must have played 1,000 gigs during that time. I've owned the bass since 1984 and I've never had to have a refret. After trying slinkys and DR strings for a couple of years I've recently returned to rotosound and I really like them.
8. Got a free set of swing bass strings a few months ago from Mr Howe. Put then on my Jazz the other day they sound great! Low tension and lots of TWANG.
9. I'm selling a set of DiMarzio Model J (DP123) pickups. Had them in my Jazz for about 6 months. £60 posted seems a fair price.
10. I played for a year with nothing to amplify my bass other than a wardrobe (bass pushed up against it to give me a bit of volume). I recommend the bit of spongue under the bridge to get rid of clanky noises but ideally you should play along to your favorite tracks and slowly the clanky noises will disappear as you get better at dampening strings with your fingers.
11. I read all through this thread and found it very interesting. I really, really do need to get out more.
12. I don't know about other Warwick basses but I heard a friend of mine playing his thumb bass recently. It has two Jazz pickups very close to the bridge so gets a very burpy Jaco Pastorious sound. It is probably a more Jazz and funk orientated tone which is a bit like marmite - you either love it or hate it. He usually plays a USA Precision which is an all rounder and the 'in your face' Thumb bass sound wasn't really appropriate for a lot of the covers his band played that night. Here's an example
13. Still for sale? Pity I don't have the cash or I'd take it off your hands.
14. Yes, but usually they are crap because if you'll play for free you must be. Of course if you're an originals band, getting paid nothing is par for the course in my experience. Saying that I'm amazed at the peanuts even covers bands are paid in my neck of the woods. The fees haven't increased since I started playing in the eighties.
15. These are some of the photos Al sent me for any prospective buyers.
16. Fretless? She doesn't say anything about that on ebay. Somebody's going to get a shock when they get it delivered.
17. Yes badass bridge and the pictures seem to show Fender Noiseless pickups. I got in touch and she says no serial number or country of manufacture on bass. Looks like a bitsa bass made with decent parts but doubt it's a Fender.
18. The truss rod adjuster doesn't look like it's on the headstock. Which means it's probably not Mexican (unless it's a classic 60s bass).
19. I would say the definition is showroom condition.
20. I was thinking of buying this myself but I've won an action for another bass on ebay and can no longer afford it. The seller sent me some nice pictures of a very good condition USA Jazz. It's a very nice price for some lucky buyer. http://www.gumtree.c...-2009/106632437
21. What if it's a Fender road worn Jazz Bass? I did once see a road worn Jazz for sale, described as mint, on this very forum.
22. You have a van? Isn't that how Bill Wyman got the Rolling Stones gig?
