1. Change the tuning on your bass. I recommend F# Eb C A. Then try to play those old boring licks of yours in the right key...........that'll get the old grey matter working overtime.
2. Bought Stevie's MiBass a great price and very nice it is too. A total gent.
3. Have just played first gig with my new (preloved) MiBass and it sounded great. I was worried it wouldn't have the grunt I wanted but it has plenty of volume. It has a very punchy sound almost like it's compressed. I much prefer the sound of the MIBass to my old TC Classic 450. I may have my Ashdown ABM up for sale soon at this rate.
4. Wecome. Those Silver series Squiers Jazzes were nice basses. I have one still.
5. Donny came and picked up my TC electronic 2x12 last weekend. Nice guy, easy transaction, money on the nail. Buy/sell with confidence.
6. Well this may be a bit controversial but I put a set of Rotosound swing bass strings on my Jazz and they sound really nice and fat and old school. They're low tension too which makes them easy to play. I've tried DR HI Beams and ernie ball slinkys over the last few years but not used rotos for a while. You do usually need to break them in over a couple of gigs first but try them .......you may like them.
7. If your're doing festivals with multiple bands the backline will generally be provided. Best to confirm this before you head off to the continent though.
8. I remember auditioning a guitarist for the band I was in. He came in, the band played a few songs, he played blindingly fast lead guitar over the top of them ..............so far so fantastic!. I then decided I'd teach him some of the chords so he could play rhythm. I said, 'This song starts in E' He said, 'what?' I said, 'Just play an open E chord' He said, 'How do you play that?' He'd spent the last, however many years, learning every Steve Vai solo know to man but couldn't play an open E? He didn't get the job.
9.
How long did Alex give for a delivery time? (I was very fortunate, he had the Compact in stock and completed the Midget in time for me to pick it all up.)
It was 7th of March that I had an email chat with him. Didn't mention timescale but assumed about a month for delivery. He's had problems with his new CNC machine it seems. He'll have quite a backlog I'm sure and will be having to deal with more impatient customers than me.
10. Gayle Ann Dorsey usually uses a Stringray but for her latest tour with Lenny Kravitz (who's pretty funky/rocky) she's using a Jazz. So it shows you can get the kind of sound you want from your present set up. BUT in my opinion a Stingray with the treble turned down will really hit the spot.
11. Realised that after about a year of chopping and changing pickups and necks that I had enough bits and pieces left to make a WHOLE NEW JAZZ BASS!!!! This is it. It's parts comprise of; pickups and controls from a 1994 Japanese Squier (really nice deep vintage sound). a neck from a Fender Classic 60's Jazz with vintage tuners (they use this one for the roadworns too) a body and bridge from a VM Squire (really nice grain) And a vintage type scratchplate from ebay The combination of those ingredients really works and It sounds great and looks lovely. 12.
Whoop! Compact and Midget order placed! Damn you 2 month waiting time!
I've waited a very long........ two months and 14 days. So far. Production problems it seems. Wonder if I'll get a discount?
13. Why bother taking a photo of it in the first place. He could have used a photo of a cloud or the inside of his lens cap.
14. The Japanese fenders are usually very high quality. I've owned 4 of them and they were all brilliant. You'll both be very happy I'm sure.
15. I agree. There is somebody out there who is willing to pay top dollar for a surf green strat (as I would for a surf green Jazz) you just haven't connected with them yet. Sunburst is for the more conventional type of person and there's lots of them out there.
16.
(I'd like to have seen the £450 US Jazz on ebay!)
It was late last night and when I went back to have a look this morning it was gone. It was a guy somewhere up the NE Tyne & Wear area. It had been dropped from a height and the body had been chipped to the wood. It had a bit of Mojo.
17. I've come into a bit of cash and (as you do) went for a quick snoop on ebay. I saw two mex roadworn Jazzes and seriously thought about buying them in a drooling, slavering kind of way but decided they were over my financial limit at approx £600. I then came across a 2003 USA Jazz which had been seriously abused at some time and was scraped and bashed but was going for only £450. I decided that there would be no way I would buy such a seriously roadworn US bass because I'd never be able to sell it again if I needed to. There's a failure in logic there somewhere.............
18. I've seen some nice 80s Tokai Jazzes on ebay and they went for approx £500 so sounds like a good deal to me.
19.
You'll need a bigger car.
Buy the cab and get the step ladder thrown in for FREE!
20. Basschat is the Culprit!!! Years ago you'd buy an amp or guitar and use it until it blew up or wore out. Nowdays if you want to experiment with gear you have basschat, gumtree, ebay etc to offload your gear and buy new stuff from. So you look after it as you never know when you may need to sell it in order to buy something different.
21. Aha The exact pickups! But frankly I don't think it's worth what he's asking. £250 tops as most Geddys go for £400 to £450 secondhand and people like the Geddy's for the neck. If it ain't got the neck then nobody's that interested. http://www.dv247.com...bass-p-u--47774
