1. these beautiful basses are very near the top of my wish list. I look forward to more being posted.
2. this is a great song and a great way to cover it. Nice.
3.
Here's my new rig. I am seriously impressed by both the head and the cab
this is a classic and cool set up. Every item top quality.
4. Chris at Bainbridge Music handles music for pubs like Nobles and a few other venues. good guy. http://www.bainbridgemusic.co.uk/
5.
The colouration will be partially determined by the cab you choose. There are basically two "types" of Puma you'll find - the older ones (500 and 1000) have a "powersoft" transformer and the newer ones something different. The newer ones can go down to a lower speaker impedance, from what I've read Musicman20's description is dead on, similar to Markbass F500. The older powersoft era Pumas, what I have, are somewhat different having a big smooth bottom end and being somewhat fatter sounding. Talkbass and the post of a fella called kjung are what you need to read though! While I also don't like the "Markbass tone" I like my puma, but your gear list is interesting... lots of 15", but the one you liked was a 4x10.... maybe look at 2x10 cabs? and.... why Tecamp? they are great but if the best thing you've played is a SVT... why go towards Tecamp? (thats not a rhetorical question btw, genuinely interested)
I have a tecamp 500 into a BF compact and midget t. It's a fantastic focused sound but a bit warmer than the newer Tecamps I have tried. Still it's a more "modern" sound, like Markbass. I actually found it closest to Genz Benz but the permutations given cabs etc mean it's difficult to pin down.
6. nice one - I think I know a couple of people who were at the Voodoo Rooms with you - did you play with Jade and the Jacks? Anyway, they said you were great. Capture some of that good vibe on this video.
7. this is a dream pedal from a top notch maker. I had a Frantabit and I just wasn't musical enough to use it. This may suffer the same fate but I think I could do more with this.
8.
Film away if you must, but please think about location. At least make the bed and take the towel off the door.
and if you really cant be arsed to put yer shoes on, wear clean socks. THIS is the real crime.
9.
But it's not "their" music, it's someone else's music with them (mostly) duplicating the bassline over the top. To me it's a bit like doing Karaoke with the original vocals left in.
fair enough, you set high standards and define what is valuable in a specific way. Many guys on here are in cover bands and anyway, as pointed out only a couple of the people listed are "play along" artists. For example, most of Marlowe DK's vids are of original lines and the classical ones are phenomenal musically (even if not my cup of tea). I am with those who see plenty space in the world for this sort of thing. Dont like it? Dont watch it. Dont see the harm. Oh and BTW, I dont agree that these are the best bassplayers on You Tube but are some of the best You Tube bassists on You Tube (i.e., they display their talent primarily through You Tube).
10. As with all music, when I follow the links and see something I like, then Iike it; if I dont I dont. As to whether they are "pros" or not. I tend to take the view that "who cares?" but if I do care it's to say that what counts as a pro in this digital age is changing and if presenting your music to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, on You Tube and making money from it (as Marlowe DK does) doesn;t count as a pro, I have no idea what "pro" means. Final point, are they as good as Wooton, Jaco, etc. Well probably not, but back to the original point - if you like what you hear then it has some value to you; if you like it more than Wooton then great. I dont have any issue with Doddy or BRX's views - those views make sense - but just have a different perspective.
11. i have this on my Nano board and I love it - the switch is so smooth. Buy this.
12. 2 months on - no-one else bought and listened?
13. these are the overlooked amps in the miniamp wars - absolute class.
14.
Hi folks, Here's a wee solo arrangement of one of my favourite Nik Kershaw songs 'Human Racing'. Cheers, Kev
superb as always, so tasteful and expressive. Inspiring.
15. i have both the mini and the "maxi" - the poly mode has always worked for me on the maxi (it's set to bass mode and poly works so not sure it's true that there is no official bass poly mode?) - I haven't tried poly on the mini, which sits on my nano board, but to be honest I prefer a quick single string check. However when the mini's been on and I have hit too many strings, I am sure I have seen poly mode engage? I will check out later, could be the drink!
16.
I always wanted to learn this one since it's such a fantastic bass line of John Giblin... I figured out the notes as good as I could this week (still not sure of some of them) and had a go at it and this is the best I could do.. It's a tough one to play, shows the genius and the musicianship of Giblin...
great stuff as always - Giblin is a master and you pick up a good Giblin vibe.
17.
Bass style reminds me of the bass player from STUMP
i suspect you might be onto something http://www.spoombung.co.uk/Stump.html
18. Chris is a top guy and his custom builds are superb.
19. very sorry if this has been posted before - dear god, magic. http://youtu.be/kcMWov0_TAE
20. now this is a truly amazing bass. I think relatively cheap!!! It's significantly more "important" than so many old Fenders I have seen.
