  1. I am a fan of Washburn basses. I have owned a few over the years. I started my love affair with a brand new B-200 in 1993, owned more basses of various types and brands than I care to remember in between, and have recently come full circle and got hold of another B-200 earlier this year. I will always be a fan of Gibson basses also, but alas only from afar currently.
  2. I learnt a few covers which were new to me, put the time in to nail them ( as us bass players tend to do), turned up for first actual rehersal with "band" after weeks of online "talking the talk" and song suggestions etc to find both guitarists could hardly play a note between them. I removed myself quickly from that waste of time...but... I now have a few new songs in my personal repetoire which I would not have otherwise. Unless you hated the songs, it's not a waste of time in that respect, and may prove useful for any future band you may join.
  3. I think he may possibly have already been there and done that, but moved onto bits of wood just for the challenge.
  4. Gibson Cherry red , cherry burst on most but not all basses , black on most but not all basses. Most of all I love the dark metallic blue finish on my Washburn. 😎

What will turn a nice present into a great present, and also have a much better chance of partner sticking with it and actually enjoy playing the bass would be to take it to a local music shop to get it setup properly once it has arrived. They will lower the bridge saddles and adjust truss rod in neck, so the strings sit as low as possible to the fretboard, intonate it, and maybe put a decent set of strings on it. All this will make a massive difference to a cheap instrument and should not cost too much to have done. 😎

  7. Received my Basschat straplocks today with thanks. On installing, I could hear the tonal improvements and volume increase straight away, howeverI will give it a few days to see if there is any improvement to my talent. Anyway, great quality, and a good tight fit...in fact I don't think I will be able to get them off again!
  8. Here is a shot of the whole thing. maybe this will help? As my electronics knowledge is pretty weak at best, not sure what AC or MN is? The tone pot is a replacement I put in, it certainly behaves like a treble cut and boost. It goes from EB-3 to Mark King slappity tap in about 2 seconds!
  9. I need to replace 2 old, dodgy mini pots in My Washburn B-200. Both are soldered to pre amp board, one is volume, one is a bass control, both are rated A100k. They look like pan pots to me but have no centre detent. Do any of the electronics boffins know where I can get hold of any like this? Cheers, James.

  11. 1993 B-200 - Metallic Dark Blue. 🤘
  12. I would seriously consider looking at the Gretsch Junior Jet II bass if you are thinking of getting a short scale. Great sound and quality for the price, and bags of fun to play. Another one to check out is the Dean Evo XM, also short scale, great pickups and tone. I am waiting for a Dean to arrive for use as my main gigging bass as it is light and well balanced and won't destroy my shoulder after 5 minutes of playing it.
  13. I get your points about Mexican/Chinese made instruments, and Fender in general , which are valid and could be part of some bigger more meaningful discussion somewhere, the op is in US Fender Precision territory financially, and wants something that looks and sounds like a P-Bass, so my response is based on that really. I just don't see much point in looking at something that is nearly the same cost, unless he's really after something very specific that the Mcdoodlywhatsit has or does any better than a US Precision, which doesn't seem to be the case.
  14. If I was in the position of affording an expensive bass and was looking at "P-basses" , I would go straight for the originator of the instrument, in this case a US made Fender. Unless you are after something specific like a particular finish, or wood type that Fender don't use, anything else is just a copy no matter what its made from, what fancy name appears on the headstock, or how much money you throw at it.. it's always going to be a copy of an iconic instrument. If you can afford "the real thing" I would get the real thing! Just my opinion.
  15. I'm looking forward to using my "customised" Laney rig and Washburn bass . I'm due an "audition" with band in couple of weeks, so at least the rig now stands a slight chance of seeing a bit of live action at some point. The led's were an attempt to distract the crowd from all the noise and wrong notes I will be producing, then I remembered that being a bass player, no one will be listening anyway.
  16. I've had the displeasure of learning Teenage kicks for a "new band" I'm joining. Had the same issue first couple of times, but all ok now. There is just something so wrong about 50 year old blokes playing a song like that in my opinion, but hey ho it is what it is for the moment. I do hope they bloody drop it though! I have just also learnt "Time Is Running Out" by Muse. Not overly hard, I can play it quite well, but really need to wedge the structure in my head, as I fear one wrong move on my part and I may be instigating a train wreck on stage!
  17. Jus Lukin, it's a 1993 B-200. It really does play and sound great. Being active, It's way more versatile than it looks. 👍
  18. It's the Black Country in me I guess! I used Laney's guitar amps as inspiration for the cosmetic upgrades. Sounds great as well as looking unique. 😎
  19. This is the latest version of my bass rig.
  20. I had a Trace 250 SMX head years ago that did this. It went off for "repair" several times but the problem just came back every time. I used to find that the gentle art of thumping the top of the amp several times used to work... sometimes. Got rid of the damn thing in the end... Trace Elliot , never again !
  21. Washburn B-200 in Dark Metallic Blue. Looks great, and plays beautifully. Sounds fantastic.
