1. Nice but £500 reserve - ambitious?
2. Played a 60th Birthday back last November - during the break this little lad who had been taking pictures of his family all evening came up and asked if he could take my photo - I asked whay and his honest reply was "because you're famous". I should have explained that I was only the bass player but I think he would have missed the point
3. Looks like one of those Playstation/X Box controller things (sorry, I'm incredibly old and feel like the judge who hadn't heard of the Beatles)
4. Or turn the laptop speakers down and play along unplugged (or am I just weird)?
5.
Mine is up on Jon's site now - 8 rows down, 5 string fretless P style http://www.shukergui...assgallery.html Right next to mine
Altogether now - "Neighbours......"

7. ESP are usually very well built and well quality controlled, however, when I stocked them a few years back I did have a guitar with the neck set at the wrong angle so things do go wrong. This does look wrong to me - looks like our Ebay friend MDP has been at it I'd contact Thomann and tell them - a bit of money back to allow you to get a new nut fitted would probably be the best bet.
8. And where you are for store recommendations.
9. Regular little "unplugged" gig last night in my local, The Woolpack in Burgess Hill. Minly an eating pub, and when we first started doing it the place would empty around 9.30/10.00. Slowly but surely there has been a steady growth of drinkers coming in and staying to the end - the last three months have been great, and last night a guitarist from a band I had been in some years back was in and really enjoyed us, as did a guy I know from our kids being at school together who was in with a muso mate. Really pleased at the feedback, especially as due to both me and our singer having surgery in the new year, and the weather, we hadn't played together since 19th December.
10. You complete and utter entertainer Sorry, had to be done, have a great gig.
11. Bit of a general love in for the shop here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191592-bassgear-visit/page__fromsearch__1
12. Bit of a cliche, but Fleetwood Mac Need Your Love So Bad - beautiful exercise of economy by John McVie and not your standard walking bass.
13.
The sound you end up with by dialling out any odd resonances is "your sound" Havin a laugh with where you live is a good old Scottish tradition. I'm from Motherwell and live up near Biggar so i shouldn't make fun of anyone Dave
Agree on the first as it seems do many others. You're working to make a sound that complements the band and works for the room. You know when it sounds right to you, therefore, that is "your sound". Had to comment on the Scottish tradition - we do an event every year at work in Alford, nr Abredeen. We stay in a little village called Tough, complete with tiny little village school, Tough School!!
14. Usual caveat, nothing to do with me, but looks nice (and big) and seems like a good price to me. 15. "Come on, come on down Sweet Virginia" Welcome to the forum - won't quote any more from the above but I hope you cleaned your shoes before you came on here!!!!!!!! Cheers, Mike
16. About 6 years ago John Mayall (who is 80 this year) did the last of his every other year tour of the UK - 36 dates, no days off! A drummer mate of mine did 270 gigs last year (plus some studio work).
17.
I'm sure there are. But... 1. I went to a lot of time trouble to make the bass look attractive and take good photos of it to help the sale. The new seller has spent 5 minutes copying them out of my ad. 2. While the bass looked like it did in the photos at the time I sold it, there's no guarantee that it still looks like that now. New photos would show the current state of the instrument. I'm sure no-one on here would be prepared to bid if they were told that the photos they were looking at were several months old and who knows what had happened to the bass in the mean time?
Very much with you on this one BRX - yes, "worse things happen at sea" is the old adage, but yes, having your copyright infringed is something I would want to put right, especially as it does seem EBay's t&c's are on your side.
18. Just sold my Boss Micro BR to Ted, really quick and easy transaction, good man to do business with - thanks Ted. Mike
19. I went right off HMV years ago when it was reported that they made more money through their marketing department charging record labels to stock their records through in store displays etc than they made by selling records. At that point they stopped "selling" records and just stocked them letting the labels do the selling. One of the worst examples was the way they sold advertising space in Q, Mojo etc, charging more than we could have bought the same ad for on the promise of stocking the album. To add insult to injury they wouldn't place the order (which you had paid to advertise) until last minute and sometimes the order would be pitiful, leaving you paying something like a fiver per record shipped!
20. Thought I'd just bump this thread to seperate it from teh ugliest bass thread that it currently resides next to
21. I used to be an ESP stockist when I had a guitar shop and I always found their cheaper range (the 200 series) some of the best guitars in that price range, a little bit different in design and very well manufactured. Funnily enough it was upper models of the LTD range (400 mainly) that I had some issues with, but this one should be a fabulous bass. Looking forward to a review and pics!!
22.
Roll off the volume controls a touch. You're right that they are full on though. I have a gorgeous Strat, but I'd love an SG2000 as its partner, perfect foil.
Never been that sort of guitarist, but seriously, it was just completely unmanagable with my DeVille 410. Still loved it to bits and it was seriously amazing unplugged, just so much resonance. I guess I just didn't play the appropriate musical style for it. It was the 30th Anniversary model of the 2000, stunning sunburst, oh stop, I'm starting to miss it!!
23.
That's an SG200 mate, they're not contoured. I wish I'd not looked at this thread, I've got SG2000 GAS now
They are a bit special, however, I couldn't get on with mine - couldn't tame it it was just so full on!
24.
I'd go a Les Paul type, twin humbuckers, or even a HSH format. It all depends on your budget. The PRS SE are good, but they have quite shallow necks, I had a custom double cut semi hollow. Sounded good, but not fat like a Les Paul. The higher priced Epiphones are very good, the Slash and the Ultras feel and sound superb according the to reviews I've read. Yamaha have some great models, a S/H SG 200 or a SG 500 could suit you to a tee, a bargain for what you get and they sound fat, and they do jazz and heavy rock beautifully, they have a coil tap too which the LP usually doesn't and that makes it very versatile. They feel like Les Pauls and the necks are lovely and comfy, reasonably chunky too. If you can stretch budget to an SG2000 it will probably be a treasure for you. SG200 SG2000 But buy secondhand, and try first if you possibly can.
If that floats your boat there is this one on here. They are exceptional guitars, very full on, huge sound and Luke's one is great value for money IMHO (and I have absolutely nothing to do with it)! By the way Nige, what's the one in the case - is it contoured at the front like a Gibson SG?
25.
i'll take it. pm'd
PM'd back and sold - thanks Ted (although bit suspicious about that avatar - looks just like my daughter's rabbit.........)
