1.
Check out Ed Friedland, the bass whisperer, on YouTube. He does sensible and relevant product demos and reviews.
+1 And Dan Veall (Dood on here) is also very good at giving proper gear demos.
  2.
, but it's major third A#, is nasty. How can the two go together?!
Think of it as Bb - much more mellow, well grounded sort of note!
  3. And another PM - can't believe I missed this before posting a want ad!
  4. I'd be sorely tempted to throw Kooks in to the set.

    Celtic Connections
I just had a really good gig at celtic connections with Shooglenifty and the Dohl drummers from Rajasthan. A good recording by the BBC on iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk...onnections-2015
Watching now - love it!
  6.
The Talman looks awesome!!! EDIT: finishes! http://www.sweetwate...-talman-basses/
And at those prices what a brilliant starter bass!!
  7. There are four of five tracks there all completely different from each other but all loudly vying for my vote - shame it won't be like this in May
  8.
Extract from Wikipedia (... and so not guaranteed accurate, but...) ...
Which, strictly speaking is a range extending generator which charges the electric motor - but yes, even BMW call it an engine so I'll shut up!
  9.
Not quite my friend. Putting a Bmw i8 engine, running gear, instrumentation, etc into a different car would be a better analogy.
Pedant alert - the i8 doesn't have an engine
  10.
is this definitely a medium scale? cant seem to find much info online
Absolutely - 32.5" and yes, very little info, reflecting how few were probably made - RBX4 A2M (here's an old link) http://www.gak.co.uk/en/yamaha-rbx4-a2m-jet-black/44878
  11.
I had a play on one of these in a music shop, really liked it. May be interested, Where are you based?
Burgess Hill, pretty close to Brighton.
  12. Great work - but yes, a Spector isn't really going to look the part is it!!
  13.
Former Wichita resident Glen Campbell was the first guy in town to own a cell phone.
He's now also officially "an assistant referee for the county".
  14.
Seems like Marcus has got a deal to create his own line authorised line of basses. http://marcusmillerbysire.com/marcusmiller/page/product.html
Wonder if they're anything like these ones: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/252854-new-cheap-marcus-miller-endorsed-range-of-basses-sire/page__st__30__p__2659067__hl__marcus%20miller__fromsearch__1#entry2659067
  15. Fretless all the way for me both in Dylan covers band and soulful blues band. There are a couple of songs where I sometimes think fretted might be better but a) I'm sure nobody in our audiences would ever notice and it's probably just GAS!
  16.
May be wrong but i'm sure it's passive. I had one and the battery was just for the lights?
Thanks B_G, didn't know that and amended accordingly.
  17. Picked up in a trade and I'm really not going to use it - an uncommon bass in an even less common 32.5" medium scale length. This is the very lightweight Yamaha RBX4 A2, complete with funky light up controls! In near immaculate condition - one tiny dink on upper back of the body. Cash sale or some pretty odd trades: Purple Chili PCB112NT cab All metal resonator guitar PA gear W.H.Y. http://s1137.photobu...M?sort=3&page=1
  18. Ha, I'm in the same boat - I have the one PCB112NT (one of the badly finished ones that got sold off cheaply - all the vinyl fell off within minutes of owning it but I love it and it sounds great) and want to add another and am putting some bits up here to raise the funds if one ever comes up (hint) Personally, I wouldn't go the non-matching route, and will wait until I can add another cab. I don't think there is anything else out there at the price that will be as good as the PC.
  19.
I don't see anything wrong with jam nights. No-one would complain if, instead of a band, the owner put on a Bingo night or a darts tournament. The landlords are under no obligation to provide us with paid gigs. He's doing the same as you, trying to earn a living. People go on about it being a closed shop for mates of the house band or the fact that they might have to listen to a load of deluded crap players all night but not giving others a chance to get up there and have a go is also promoting a clic situation.
I have no problem with jam nights/open mics per-se but this is a situation where one is directly replacing a gig night in a gig venue. The one I used to help run in Ipswich was great - getting youngsters and new players up and playing with the more experienced ones, people finding band mates and getting gigs - all very positive stuff. Most importantly, it was held on Wednesday nights.
  20.
Ahem - might it just be that the pub, for whatever reason, didn't want you? I've told bookers that I didn't want to work for, that I was booked up for the next twelve months......
Naughty!! No, pretty sure it wasn't the case as the landlord was very friendly and as soon as I said I was looking for gigs he laughed and said "not this year I hope?"
  21.
Just being Devil's Avocado for a moment... does it really matter? Isn't it better to have some kind of live music than none at all?
In some cases yes, but in this one they are replacing bands that they have to pay for with a jam night that they don't. As I said, they don't have any more spots available for bands for the whole year, so if it wasn't a jam night there would be live music.
  22. Now I know we've been over the whole playing for money debate many times, and I've tended to sit on the fence as I can see the value of open mic and jam nights - in fact was involved in running a jam night for a few years. However, I have just seen on Facebook a pub that I approached a couple of weeks ago for a gig to be told that they are fully booked for 2015 advertising a Blues Jam TONIGHT!! They even have a set list that you can put your name against two songs to play. To me this has really overstepped the mark, blatantly using a jam in place of a live band, not as a midweek spot where they wouldn't be paying for a band anyway. Just glad I've got a gig elsewhere tonight. Rant over
  23. Local Facebook groups - didn't realise before how many of these, and how active they are!
  24.
I'd have no problem with these if they were in addition to stuff people have been asking for for years. A better selection of colours, more PJs, P's with blocks.. But they just keep coming out with nowt-nor-summink doggerel that no-one is going to buy.

Is that what the majority of people want or what you would personally like and how do you know no one will buy them?
Having sold Fenders for a couple of years a few years back I tend to agree with WoT - Fender buyers are relatively conservative. They want the classics. Now Fender are lucky in that they have a great catalogue of classics which they really don't exploit well - all those lovely colours, binding, blocks, the different period shapes. Use those but then throw in some updates - a few more 5 strings looking like the old classics, different active options, do limited runs of the great old colours (could re-do this every couple of years, keeping people's interest. I'm sorry but that highlighted sandblasted bass looked like someone's DT project, and yes, clueless does seem to sum it up nicely (as backed up by their current financial woes).
