Isn't it all about music influenced by 'roots' styles - Bluegrass, Zydeco, Cajun, Blues? From memory, when I was working in the record business, there was an Alt Country movement - Steve Earle, Cowboy Junkies etc. a kind of antidote to the other development of the time, New Country. Alt Country then merged with other sub genres, a couple of big acts (Springsteen) went back to a more traditional sound, and a new marketing tool was born.

I have a bit of an idea for the next band I want to put together, and thought it would probably fall under the Americana label (not that I am one for labels, but they do serve a purpose when putting something together and then marketing that act). Anybody here playing in such a band? Is there a 'scene' (it looks like there is a bit of one from my Facebook feed)? Who are some of the bands out there? Thanks in advance!

Picked up a Cry Baby at a local hose clearance place for £3. Exchanged next day at a Brighton guitar shop for a set of D'addario chrome bass strings. I have no idea how I disposed of my 1970s Electro Harmonix Poly chorus, but I know I wouldn't have sold it for much.

I've had a Carvin BX500 for years, and my brother has had a combo for a similar time. No problem with either. However, there was a big reliability issue which the guys at the stockist at the time, Bass Gear, became aware of. Most of the problems happened early in ownership, so if there's secondhand gear out there working I'd say it would be low risk.

@BigRedX has good knowledge of unusual designs. He may be able to shed some light on wether it is original or a custom job.

Have you tried Newtone Strings? Lots of folk on here rate them highly (I've only used them for guitar), and they will make custom sizes.

Poor take by Scott. I'm not a Scott hater, and think he does a great job of promoting his brand, and bass in general. But I think it's a shame he uses his platform here with no regard to the damage he could be causing (proven by the need for this thread). I'm a 34" scale player with gas for a Nordy Acinonyx.

I enjoyed it. The suspension of disbelief didn't bother me as I felt it was a short cut to representing success of the band/project. Thought the music was cleverly constructed.
